  1. Exciting times for the club.
  2. Was tipped for the West Coast job before McQualter got it I think.
  3. Crazy. Bit to come out in the wash I reckon.
  4. No one but if it's true we'll know in the next few hours.
  5. Essendon copping a lot of heat. Merret handling himself very poorly but weird to see his teammates make public statements about how disappointed in him they are. Easily worse situation than Trac last year.
  6. So to elaborate on Hardwick, he came in off the back of Guy McKenna (first time), Rodney Eade (third time), and Stewart Dew (first time). You also mentioned Roos who didn't win anything for us but was the exact right appointment for us in that moment. I would absolutely say that Lyon was a success at freo. He is the most successful coach in their history to date. Making prelims and Grand Finals is not an easy job. He was also the only coach they've ever had who had coached an AFL team prior. People may laugh when I say Voss but Carlton had been anchored to the bottom of the ladder for a decade when he arrived. The point is, these guys all moved the needle in a positive direction even if they haven't yet got the ultimate. Any coach, whether they are first timers or returning, need to be the right fit for the club and be given the suppport structure to succeed. The first timer vs returning coach debate is too shallow. There are just so many other tangible variables that are more important than a statistical anomaly around recent premiership coaches. It shouldn't be a consideration in our hiring process.
  7. Ross Lyon got Freo to their first GF. Hardwick has finally cracked the finals for the Suns. Voss got Carlton to their first prelim in 20 years.
  8. First time coaches are overwhelmingly the more popular appointment.
  9. No different to any other job ad. They're a wish list, not a requirement.
  10. Hird got way more to answer for haha.
  11. Yeah Since Sheedy Essendon have had as many untried coaches as they have 2nd timers. All have failed. One basically ruined the club for the next 15 years.
  12. Brad Scott sounded absolutely gutted last night. Feels like this has genuinely rocked the joint.
  13. It's a bit of a quirk that so few senior coaches have come out of Geelong's assistants. A bunch of former Clarkson and Hardwick protegees but no one seems to get the guys who learned the craft under Scott. Think Hinkley is the only one but he was only at Geelong during the Thompson years.
  14. We've already got the AFLW ladder for that!
  15. Couple of things in this. Playing at the MCG no doubt skews this a bit. Small membership in a big stadium means we get bigger numbers to our home games especially against other victorian teams. 80k in a home game against the Pies does not mean the game had 130% attendence by Melbourne supporters Another issue, Freo are top of the pop because they sell out Optus every week. But so do West Coast who end up 16th because they are a much bigger club. Means the rankings aren't particularly useful. A better way to work out how well our members represent themselves would be by looking at our home crowds against non-victorian teams, especially teams like Freo, GWS, West Coast, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast who tend to have low interstate attendence. From that group this year we had home games against GWS, Gold Coast, Freo and West Coast. Our average against those teams was 22,345
  16. Most AFL players have boxes and boxes of memorabilia in their garages gathering dust that they eventually auction off. Goodwin was doing the same thing a couple of years ago.
  17. Yeah, nah. He's a [censored] bloke and made an absolute pillock of himself but unless he said something genuinely misogynistic to her then I wouldn't be suspending him. Maybe a fine.
  18. Agree just not sure why people are complaining about the lack of noise right now. He's getting a bunch of heat.
  19. Smith is copping a heap of grief.
  20. Not sure that's the reason!
  21. Think that was Dean Bailey
  22. Reckon Smith is a bigger problem child than Geelong anticipated.
  23. This is wild but wouldn’t surprise me at all.
  24. Not sure what you’re trying to say? He went through a similar interview process that we are doing now. Adam Simpson was another interviewed at the time and has spoken about it.
