  1. Didn't you see the channel 7 footage? Looked like he couldn't drive away from the MCG quickly enough!
  2. Weird, I reckon he's the most insightful voice in the media.
  3. At Casey, Caufield or the MCG?
  4. He is in a very awkward position in how publicly he is connected to the position. If he gets looked over for another assistant it's not great for his reputation, so better for him to be seen to not actually want the job in those circumstances. I think if he still wasn't really sure then he would have removed himself from the process himself.
  5. Didn't Freo offer LJ more than we could in the end? McKay would have needed a decent carrot to leave. There's every chance Carlton would have gone for it but McKay wouldn't have too. Don't think we did ourselves many favours or capitalised on the flag to make us look like a reasonable destination unfortunately. The board room fights, rumours about Goodwin and cultural issues all started in 2022 and we allowed that all to fester for two more years.
  6. Looking like a mess off-field, worst training ground in Victoria, and lack of cap space all would have contributed. Richmond were a big club, in a great location and were extremely well run, and then were able to offer Lynch a big contract albeit backloaded.
  7. If we pick any of Skipworth, Kelly or King and Geelong and Collingwood make the granny it won't be during prelim week. Weird we put this timeline on it.
  8. Will be very interesting to see what the candidates are for the board position.
  9. I find it difficult to see any way Caufield gets done without government funding which means we're probably lobbying for it.
  10. Yeah this is what confuses me about the cats conspiracies. Outside of Cameron, Smith, Stewart, and Dangerfield (who would now be sundowning) most of their players are just solid role players.
  11. Haha ikr. So jealous.
  12. Game over. What a performance from Geelong.
  13. All their talls are rock solid too. Brick wall behind the ball.
  14. Cats look insane. Hard to see anyone stopping them playing like this.
  15. I'd seen a few people bring him up throughout the year. There's certainly been a sense about him that he'd return to coaching at some point. When he was asked about the role he appeared quite eager which was a pleasant surprise. Then Longmire and Simpson pulled out and the question basically became Buckley or a random assistant so it's no surprise people started warming to the known candidate.
  16. It's your opinion, but man, I think this is a very shallow take.
  17. Agree. My question was purely about how a Buckley appointment 'feels Melbourne' for me it seems like a pretty un-melbourne appointment. Most of all I just want the process to be legit and the best candidate to get the job. If that's Buckley I'll be happy with the appointment. He's a very good communicator, has shown a capacity for personal growth as a coach and is highly respected within the industry. The stuff people are talking about wrt being a leader for the club is still very important also. The coach is pretty much always the face of the club. Having a strong ambassador in that position goes a long way to getting to the kind of stability we seek.
  18. Taking 16 marks inside 50 also helps.
  19. It's pretty easy to work out when it crosses the line. Crows fans booing Lever? Absolutely fine, part of the sport. He left them and it got messy. Last night they were booing a guy because he was the target of a homophobic slur from one of their own players who got suspended for it. There's just no other way to read it. It was a disgrace.
  20. Really not sure that Collingwood are the supporter group deserving to be called out over their behaviour last night.
  21. I would be fine with Buckley, don't think he's a bad coach at all. I'm pretty much happy to give anyone they appoint a shot. Just pick who they believe is the best option. From the outside it's impossible to make any real judgement on assistants for the most part. Basically a lucky dip for us supporters. Chris Scott did a two year stint at a middle of the road Freo before getting appointed to Geelong and becoming one of the best coaches of the era. Neeld was Malthouse's right hand man when Pies were humming and was a disaster.
  22. Happy for him to be moved in if that's what the club thinks is best. Not convinced he deserves as much blame as he gets.
  23. So what exactly do you mean by 'Buckley is the very Melbourne choice' Historically we've leaned mostly towards highly touted untried assistant coaches, which is what you are suggesting.
  24. The team had no talent when he started and was knocking on the door of finals when he left. Was the exact right person for the club at the time.
  25. Fair enough. Though that's just another year under him where crows didn't do much.
