  1. Who could have possibly seen this coming?
  2. Champion Data were saying earlier in the year that our ball movement was one of the fastest in the comp. The problem is we didn't do anything to fix our forward entries or structure so it was a bit of a hiding to nothing.
  3. I already answered this but I'm really making the point about how the narrative has been re-written. The club was trying to trade out picks last year for senior players, when that didn't work we said that we invested in top end talent to help us get to finals now. The story is now that we're investing in the draft to 'rebuild on the run'. I don't think the club planned the list management decisions with that goal in mind. They were clearly trying to get us back to finals now. The notion that we always saw this as a development year and that finals isn't the point for our team is a complete revision. I would much rather they just be honest with us and say they misread where the team is at and we're now focussed on building our list to get back to the pointy end of the ladder.
  4. 2000 onwards imo.
  5. Gawn is our greatest of the modern era and it aint close.
  6. Well no, because we traded our first round pick. What exactly would we be tanking for?
  7. It's fine to say we are going through a transition phase but we don't put any limits on what we can achieve. It's exactly what Goodwin said last night. The problem is the club sold the members the vision that we were expecting to compete deep into finals. Unless you think they were lying they totally missed the mark. Last year we were trying to get Dan Houston through the door and refused to trade Oliver. We planted our flag in the ground about our ambitions at the end of last year and the start of this year. It's a very clear failure and the narative is now being moved in a different direction. Would much rather the club just admit we're not where we thought we were at the start of the year and we're moving in a different direction.
  8. I'm hesitant to believe much from the media this year they've hit an all time low imo. If this is actually true then it does seem to suggest we are looking to make some pretty substantial changes to our list. Broadly speaking I'm not against that strategy but I'd rather look at moving guys like Lever on than Fritsch since our forwardline is still our weakest area.
  9. I'm not sure he's cut out for the media.
  10. I find it really frustrating that the members were told we were aiming to play finals this year and contend deep into finals and the story has now completely shifted to 'rebuilding on the run'. If we were told we were rebuilding on the run at the start of the year that would have made this year a lot more palatable but it's pretty clear we've failed in our ambitions and are trying to spin it a different way in the back end of the season.
  11. I thought in the commentary Mooney suggested he was going for a spoil but got him late. That would have been a stronger defence than admitting to the charge in his opening statement. I really don't know why they bothered.
  12. Bit of a waste of time and money from North going with that defence.
  13. I think Petracca always showed signs that he had the talent. He took some time to become consistent but his best was always very exciting. This is what Trac was doing in his first two games for example: I think right now my expectation for him is much closer to Sparrow than the other two you mentioned.
  14. Rayner's ceiling has always been very high that's why he went as a number 1 pick. He's never really lived up to his potential. nearly 8 years in the system without an AA to his name. Outside of that I'm a little confused by the comparison as I don't think the two play similarly at all.
  15. Xerri's ban will be upheld. He didn't mean it but when you swing an arm out like that at incoming traffic you're done.
  16. Genuine question to the believers. What kind of player do you see Tholstrup as? What do you think his ceiling is and what's his best position? If you were to compare him to another player (past or present) who do you think he plays like? From a purely footballing perspective, what have you seen so far that excites you about him?
  17. Advertising revenue.
  18. This seems like massive conjecture.
  19. So we're bang average against top 8 sides and even worse against other bottom sides. At best we are a bog average side. Cool.
  20. Considering what we know about head injuries he probably will.
  21. North are the worst backline in the comp. I still saw plenty of poor delivery inside 50. People were saying we'd fixed our issues after we smashed Sydney then we lost our next 5 games. Might be worth keeping your powder dry.
  22. I don't really get the ANB comparisons. He was never a bad player, just a whipping boy. Also picked about 20 picks later so expectations were far lower, but still a better player than Tholstrup at the same stage of his career. If Tholstrup is to get on ANB's trajectory next year he needs to have cemented his spot in the team, average 18 disposals, 4 tackles and just under a goal a game.
  23. Don't think his attitude is the issue at all. He tries hard but he's slow and lacks composure, kind of floats around contests not really knowing how to involve himself.
  24. I think people are delusional if they think this is going to lead us to getting Jackson. McVee is a good player but I doubt he'd fetch more than an early second rounder.
  25. If he's put off contract talks a couple months before the seasons over he's 100% gone.
