And as I've said, if this version of events is true, then it means Oliver was actively seeking a way out of the club. Which leaves us with the reality that within two months our two highest paid stars were so disillusioned that they were trying to get out of the club, which is a pretty terrible position for us to find ourselves in.

Pert may well have been acting on the will of the footy department. I haven't ruled that out as a possibility at all. It would still be well outside the purview of a CEO's responsibilities and I'd find it pretty disturbing if that is how our club goes about it's business.

If your version of events is true then Oliver was extremely keen to leave the club even before we shopped him around which is a massive issue in itself.

Maybe we shouldn't be throwing the seagulls our chips.

Either that or Demonland is going to be responsible for a marriage break up.

The premise of this thread is a doorstop with Oliver at the races.

You're implying we only went to Geelong and refused to speak to anyone else. Geelong has kept tabs on Oliver all year. There have been reports that halfway through the year Oliver's manager asked if we were open to a trade and we shut it down. Then once the season wrapped up everything seemed pretty relaxed. We were hearing reports that Oliver was ready to pay the club back and take off to some pre-season training camp. For whatever reason the club (Pert) completely fumbled the ball and decided to try and quietly ask a few other clubs what they reckon Oliver is worth. Well, nothing stays quiet in this industry. Turns out most clubs wanted nothing to do with Oliver, but Geelong, who had been courting him all year and were ready to pounce on an opportunity we gave them. In the end the club shut it down, but not without a lot of self-inflicted damage that was completely unnecessary.

Draft night - How it may work out?
You can find his highlights on youtube. He looks like he kicks the ball straight but he seems to be operating with a lot of space, taking marks on a lead, not a lot of physicality as far as I've seen. I don't see anything that makes me really sit up. I don't think I could handle using yet another first rounder on an average key forward.

Hence my question about it.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
He will likely slip back. He is small and not particularly fast. As a small mid you want something that sets you apart more than just being a good user. His highlight reels look great but I understand the reservations on him.

What ended up happening with that overseas training camp he was supposed to go on? Was it cancelled or is it coming up?

2024 Player Reviews: #21 Matthew Jefferson
I don't see being named emergency as a massive show of faith. I think chasing just about every potentially gettable key forward over the past couple of years including guys like Waterman, who would have cost a decent amount, gives me the vibe we don't think Jefferson is going to be much of a mainstay.

Delistings 2024
COVID really messed up that draft. So many misses in the first round.

He really does have a way with words.

He might be too honest for his own good.

Wade Derksen
Really quite baffling Giants refused to let him go.

Sam Weideman has been delisted
Why on earth would people think he'd be a good recruit? He's not good depth, he averages maybe one decent game a year and goes missing for the rest. He had his shot, he's not good enough.

The Brandon Parfitt Thread
Would be adequate depth. We still have a lot of list spots to fill.

"Off-field problems" at the Pies
Feel like maybe this thought didn't require an entirely new thread.

What are you on about?

Dan Houston
Do you think there was any way we could have prevented the events that lead to the media pile on or handled the situation better once those events unfolded?

Do you think the club could have handled things any better there so that it didn't lead to him wanting out?
