  1. They also interviewed Dean Bailey in the coach's box DURING the game on several occasions. Great of Dean to be willing to do it. But, really gotta question the point of it. The coach isn't going to say anything meaningful about his gameplan or anything, so it's really just another meaningless sound bite, and it diverts the coach's attention away from the job at hand. To me, it's just a pointless exercise that the TV powers-at-be seem to think will add to the interest of their rivetting presentation of the game. I'm not a fan of it!
  2. Couldn't agree more, Redleg! Beamer is living his dream -- playing for the club he loved as a kid! And, he's doing it with real, genuine passion -- both on and off the field! I am just so thrilled for him. Last Saturday he was absolutely spent at the end of the match. He gave absolutely everything in his desire to get the team across the line. With cramp in both legs, his final disposal of the match had to be a handball off to a team-mate. He could then only watch and hope, but alass, not to be... Next Captain? Really think he's hard to go past. Go Beamer! Go Dees!
  3. I kinda wonder the same thing. Just wasn't like Brad to miss every shot...

DJ 16, my heart goes out to you and your Mum. Really hope she pulls through okay. Cancer has claimed too many of my family, friends and acquaintances. Just so hope your Mum & Jimmy can both beat it.
  5. Seems to me that Williams and Scott Thompson were two players who were always on the fringe. Threatening to be something special, but for the most part didn't take the next step for the longest time. Regreattably, Luke never progressed, while Scott Thompson suddenly burst on to the scene, played a handful of excellent games for us, got injured, and then headed to Adelaide. So, we ended up getting pretty much nothing out of either of them. Guess that'll aways be the story with a certain percentage of any list...
  6. Yeah. I picked that up, too. To my knowledge, they weren't related. (But, loved 'em both! Glenn was another of a long list that wasa cruelled by injury just when he was hitting his straps, and we therefore missed seeing him complete a stellar career!) But, nice to see Beamer's thoughts on the team he's always loved. And, nice to have the unique perspective of a present day player who also grew up loving the team. Well done, Beamer! You're special!
  7. Your name on here reminds me of that place where some of our players had to front up to after getting their numbers in the umpires' books -- Harrison House! LOL
  8. Don't worry, Titan. Your glory days are just ahead...!
  9. Wow! Bobby, you must be the Ancient of Days on this site! Well done!
  10. And, don't forget Ken Emselle. If my memory serves me correctly, it seems there was a time when either Townsend or Emselle were injured. One would come back from a long injury, only for the other one to be struck down. We rarely seemed to get them both on the park at the same time. But, both were very handy rovers.
  11. And here I was thinking I was about the oldest poster on here! This thread has definitely flushed out all the old farts! LOL Mate, can I claim to be too young to remember Geoff Tunbridge? (Well, that's my excuse for sticking with Bazza, anyway!)
  12. Sorry if I missed something, guys. But, does anyone know when Junior did his hammy? Don't recall anything during last week's game...???
  13. Gold!! That's my man! Thanks, Prof!
  14. Yeah, true. Don Williams spent part of the time between stints at the MFC running around as Captain Coach of our local Sale side in what was then the LVFL...
  15. Ah, yes, what memories. Some of my best memories are sitting in front of the old radiogram as a kid, listening to the exploits of Greg Parke pulling down screamer after screamer, and pumping the ball down Ross Dillon's throat! Great stuff!! But, I am truly gutted that no-one has mentioned my namesake! Good old Barrie Vagg was a rather talented Half Forward Flanker who was one of my real favourites! Nostalgia! Gotta love it! Now, on to the next battle with the old enemy on Monday...! Go Dees!!
  16. I'm thrilled for the kid! Is this the first nomination this year from a losing side? Seems them who make the decisions have pretty much always chosen the nominations from winning teams. So, makes this nomination that much more special. Now, just need to get Watts, McKenzie and Strauss's names added to the list of nominations! (And, is Bail eligible? If so, him, too! That would make a new record of seven for the year!) Go Dees!!
  17. I realise they rarely line up where named. But, nice to see Strauss named in the middle...
  18. Yes, many fine memories of the Right Honourable Brian Dixon strutting his stuff for the MFC in our glory days! Well done, Brian! Well deserved! Now, bring on our next Glory Days!! Go Dees!
  19. But, he's named as an Emergency, so can't be injured! Don't tell me he's piked out of the big contest against his old side...! LOL
  20. Would love to see McKenzie & Cheney squeezed into that side!
  21. You're kidding! Is that right? No Collingwood player in the Team of the Century?? That's positively GOLD if true...!! Love it!! And, back on subject, yes, let's get those deserving Melb names into the Hall of Fame, where they belong! Go Dees!!
  22. Got the Hotdog stand for another year, huh? LOL
  23. Oh, rats! And there I was, about to start the rumour you had been signed to replace Gary Jnr next year...!! (LOL)
  24. Ah! My kingdom for a hyphen! That word is a dandy, eh?! "resign", and he's outa here. "re-sign", and he's stayin'! Gotta love the English language! (Sorry, PM! Not meaning to have a go...!)
  25. On the contrary! Every relevance in the world. We got pick 11 (Gysberts) because McLean departed the MFC, and pick 11 was the payment. Relevant. And, great work by the MFC...!
