  1. the team last on the ladder should get the number 1 draft pick, because they were the worst team in the competition and in order for them to become competative again they need the talent into the team...simple as that. give richmond for example...let's say they come last for the next 5 years, and are unlucky enough to get pick 8 every single time. pick 8 is no certainty to be a 200 game player, while number 1-3 is a certain massive talent addition to ur squad. This would mean richmond would never be able to recover and become competative again. for this reason it is a poor proposal... The only possibility i would consider is if the bottom 2,or 3 teams had a lottery for picks 1,2,and maximum 3 in the draft. that theory seems more reasonable than the bottom 8 teams having a chance to get the number 1
  2. anyone who has played competative football (or any sport for that matter) would know that the coach always picks the side based on the way he sees the team. for example, if there's a number of players at a similar level, the coach will always have a soft spot for a certain player, or prefer a certain characteristic or workrate of a certain player. if often happens that better players for some reason aren't getting picked because the caoch has a certain view of them. this is particularly evident in daniher. we joke about his love children (godders, ward...) and wonder how they get in the team over others, but the reality is that they will always get in the team over players of similar standard, because they have a quality that the coach likes. unfortunately for some (ARMSTRONG) this means that certain players simply don't get a go, and would probably do better under a different coaching stuff. i have a feeling this will happen to Newton. he has never been mentioned as one of our up and coming players, and all the others have been mentioned (except for neville, weetra and bode who are so far off the radar its rediculous)...i have a feeling its because of his attitude that daniher isn't a big fan of him. at the end of the day, daniher will always prefer Neitz, Dunn, Robbo and Miller as tall forwards before him. there is no room for a fifth forward...some players just werent meant to stick it under the daniher regime. anyways i hope he gets his go very soon
  3. i hope Newton isn't the new steven armstrong... armstrong played awesome in sandy every week and when he got picked he got 5 minutes game time only to dropped back down. lets be honest, if you want to play in danihers team he has to like you
  4. considering that P.Johnson, N. Jones and L.Dunn and 100% certainties to play... the final spot will come down to one of Warnock, Holland, Frawley and Pickett... if they decide to go for the extra tall, then it will be extremely interesting to see who of Warnock, Frawley or Holland is favoured to playing as the extra tall defender. If they go the extra tall i suggest it will be holland. If not, then obviously pickett remains in the team... it just goes to show how much they rate frawley that he was named in the team without even playing a senior game for the zebras and being concussed during his first hitout last week. he was a certain round one starter pre-season and impressed much during preseason, so they must rate this kid... (though while saying that, Warnock was extremely highly rated 2 seasons ago when he was named to play his first match for the club coming back from a 6 week lay-off and hadnt played a match from the reserves even to that stage... and he didnt turn out too special so...)
  5. bruce was playing with a very sore calf muscle against port and it couldnt have helped his game... y won't people leave him alone for his performance against port, when he was playing injured, and look back at the past 3 seasons, (including the first 5 rounds of this season), when bruce has consistently been our best player, and has an uncanny ability to win almost every 50/50 challenge against any player in the afl. bruce is a fantastic player, who would be considered in the top 10 in the afl if his kicking skills were as damaging as kerr, or dal santo. i feel blessed to have him at the club, and tho i rue the fact he doesnt have a fantastic kick, i feel lucky that we have atleast 1 player in our team that can win the ball consistently 25 times a game and consistently be one of the better players on the field. honestly this 'bruce is soft and shirks contests' is just dispicable and must be coming from 12 year old pimple poppers who just started supported the demons this year...because clearly they arent taking the previous 5 seasons of bruce's performances into consideration!
  6. bruce wins almost every 50-50 contest he is involved with and has done so consistently for 5 years now. that is his main asset as a player! how people can suggests he shirks contests simply has no idea, and honestly must not be watching any of the melbourne games
  7. maybe im just disillusioned, but what's the point in getting our full list together now that we can't win the flag this year... may as well just play as many kids as possible imo get in newton, buckley, pettard, cj, frawley, bell, pj,, nathan jones, sylvia, dunn and play them every match for the rest of the year. if we lose the next couple and it becomes official that we arent making the finals i would like to never see bizzel, ward, and holland never to play again. if the season looks bottom 4 then decisions should be made on guyz like wheatley, ferguson, nathan brown and jamar. if the coaching staff believe they are not going to be contributers next year, then they too should spend the rest of the year in the vfl. (of that group, only nathan brown i feel sympathy for, because he might be the victim of a season in the bottom 4 in which youth is prioritized. he tries his gutz out every week and bleeds red and blue)
  8. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E19769,00.html 16000 supporters at the mcg. what a disgrace. having a big crowd makes such a big difference. not only does it have a significant effect on umpiring decisions, but if a player hears the roar of a massive crowd, it definitely lifts his performance and adrenalin levels. i love the demons, but sometimes i with i supported a club like adelaide which has atleast 40,000 people turn up and scream for their team every week. it really does make a difference. obviosuly we can't just pull 40000 members out of nowhere, however i know that there are more than 16000 melbourne fans who could have made it to the mcg on a sunday arvo for 4 hours on a nice sunny day. shame on those who could have been there and weren't, because your presence could have meant the demons winning.
  9. we will not win a flag with daniher as coach. simple as that.
  10. its a shame, bc if bruce had a good, damaging kick he would presently be in the top 20 players in the afl
  11. rediculous observations of daniel bell. clearly you did not watch the entire match, as he improved throughout, and clearly you have not watched this entire season, as he has been one of the few players to shine this year with his agression, power and skill
  12. i am not against daniher, i think he has good results over his 10 years and has been servicable. he is quite a good coach.... with that said...it really annoys me when fellow supporters want him as coach next year. anyone who supports a coachs contract being extended past 10 years without a premiership, has simply accepted mediocrity. everyone on our list except netiz and yze have been brought in by daniher EVEN IF WE MAKE TOP 4 THIS YEAR, unless people really believe we will win a premiership under him, we should have a new coach therefore, get in john lomgmire
  13. our top goalkicker is miller with 6 goals, and moloney is playing tonight. other goalkickers in the side are Dunn, yze sylvia davey (all if played out of the goalsqaure are capable of kicking goals) but i do worry we willl not be able to kick a winning score
  14. so now u can punch a guy in the face, and get off, because you were provoked. What selwood said was disgusting and provocative, but that doesnt condone headlands actions. the most rediculous judgement i have heard of ever
  15. and my team B: Whelan, Carroll, Bizzel HB: N.Brown, P. Johnson, Bell C: Wheatley, McDonald, Bruce HF: Davey, Miller, Bate F: Green, Dunn, Yze R: White, Jones, Godfrey I: Jamar, Ward, Holland, Pettard In: Pettard, Holland, Dunn, Bizzel Out: Moloney (inj), T. Johnstone (inj-he will miss atleast 1 week), Ferguson (is possibly the worst player to have played for melbourne. definite delisting at end of year) out through injury: rivers, neitz, robbo, mclean, T.Johnstone, Moloney, Frawley, Sylvia, Pickett (his lack of fitness is redix it must be considered an injury to take 6 weeks to get fit) thats one of the worst teams ive seen in a while. look at that injury list...
  16. people who suggest dropping godfrey and brown clearly have no clue and have no been watching the first 3 rounds. while i would be the first to call for their dropping if the dees had a full list, while decimated with injuries, they have been 2 of our more capable and reliable players... while players like PJ, C. Johnson, bate and others have floundered, you can always rely on those 2 players to run hard all day. brown will always pick up atleast 20 possies and is our only player at the moment who will run hard all day and actually try to implement this run and carry tactic we now use. while its depressing having those 2 in the team, realistically they are good options through this tough time. go godders and doggie!
  17. i disagree that demons suporters are fair weather supporters... surely anyone who hasnt seen a premiership for 44 years and still supports the club and goes to matchs should be commended. im only 19, but if i get to 50 years old without seeing a premiership i assume that by that stage i would be wrathful at anything less than excellence. demon supporters are sick of being mediocre and want a premiership, not 5-8th every season. isnt that fair enuf. its not like people are ripping up their memberships. we have the highest memberships this year ever (more than 25000)
  18. finally someone who agrees with me. bate is overated by Melbourne fans and has played shockingly of late. like almost everyone of our midfielders he needs an extra yard of pace desperately. we have a slow midfield. bring on the aboriginals ala essendon
  19. whoever said ferguson played alright today was watching a different game i was. he loses every one-on-one. has no strength. does not read the play well... He will 300% get delisted at years end...will be no loss he is not afl standard i still rue the fact we didnt trade him for sewell a couple of years ago. what a great trade that wouldv been for us
  20. i honestly think all the players tried hard today...just they werent good enough...which is more worrying than players not putting in the effort. but i agree. no more than 5 players today deserve above 4/10. green, jones, moloney, bruce, miller
  21. whos the likely number 1 pick? i hope to god its a 205cm ruckman bc thats exactly what we need. our ruck division is a massive weakness for us? Q- Cameron wood was picked up after Lynden Dunn...who would people prefer? Wood looks great i would prefer him espesh considering our desperate need for a ruckman who can contest let alone tap to advantage
  22. and forget the second shining light. daniel bell. well done son
  23. i thought he played really terribly today. i thought his disposal was shocking and his marking pathetic. i would be happy if he never played another game for us. i dont rate him and he is no answer to our problems. btw he is not a ruckman
  24. i cant believe peoples comments about paul johnson. he was disgustingly pathetic today. may he never play again. cannot mark and his disposal is shocking
  25. these scores are much too high. we were outplayed so comprehensively that the score line could have been 100 points were it not for bad kicking. shining lights- nathan jones comendable efforts- bruce, green, johnstone good trier- godfrey, miller, mcdonald the rest were rediculously shizen and as a team effort i give 1.5/10
