i was a fan of the sydney assistent coaches, but since seeing ross lyon doing a [censored] job at stkilda, i don't want longmire anymore... for me 1) mckenna 2) o'donnell 3) williams (sandy) 4) pagan

bizzel and carrol were fantastic today. conceding only 8 goals to 3/4 time considering the amount of times the ball went inside 50 was fantastic. carrol's marking is strong

The Oracle's Preview of Melbourne v Kangas

on channel ten news last night, it seemed that mclean was a probable starter despite the fact he's only an emergency. do not be surprised if their are 1/2 late changes -
The secret's out thanks to Inside Football

i was honestly worried about newton's devlopment. he's not able to push into the senior team and doesn't look like a place will open up any time soon. but the fact that he's contracted next year is a big relief to me. it means he's fine and you all can stop worrying about his devlopment. he's young and will make it. the only worrying thing would be if the demons delisted him at years end which isn't possible -
you guyz are forgetting the most important word. get this word into your heads, because it will dominate your minds for the next 9 months. this word will change the fortunes of our team, fix our main weakeness, and have people screaming 'demons for top 4 in 2008' "Kruezer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

we should tank this season so we come bottom 2 and can get kruiser. this could be the only time this decade we will get a chance to pick a quality ruckman in the draft.

Trade or Draft what type of players we need ?
sylvinator replied to Deano74's topic in Melbourne Demons
y would you add this in if you wanted credibility. bruce and johnstone realistically won't be traded, and shouldn't be. if u were going to mention any senior player...then maaayyybbbbeeee look to trade green (would have very high market value) and miller -
you haev all got the wrong angle... cousins, judd, kerr and pavlich aren't going anywhere. however the fact of the matter is, that if melbourne clubs are offering 1 million for them, then they would probably accept an offer of 800,000 to stay at the eagles. this is still an enourmous amount of money for one player, and it will mean that they will have to trade off some lesser lights to afford it. this is why we should be going for players like braun, brett jones, fletcher and seaby. 1 of them will be forced out due to salary cap pressure. we should swoop

i believe we passed on such a guy only 2 years ago... we chose lynden Dunn ahead of Cameron Wood. i would prefer wood at the moment, though i am happy with dunn -
game plan: keep the ball moving at all costs, with the aim of getting the ball to our forwards as quickly as possible. by getting the ball into our forwards quickly, we are hoping to get 1-1 contests (not kicking it long to neitz who has 3 men on him). backing our forwards to be able to win 1-1 contests. with sylvia, robbo, neitz, yze, green, davey, bate, dunn and others going through the forward line, i am confident we can achieve this. having 1 tagger in the team each week is crucial, maybe even two...other midfielders (bruce, mclean, jones, johnstone, mcdonald) can be trusted to beat their opponent without having to be defensive midfielders. carrol, rivers and frawley backed in the take the k.p forwards. half back flankers (pettard, whelan, bell) expected to create lots of run from the backline
-
i would try our youngsters, and tell ward, miller, brown, ferguson, wheatley, bizzel that they will not play again for the demons unless we as depth in case of injury. i would put frawley, buckley, newton in the side and keep them there for the entire year. i would keep sylvia in the forward line, but see him eventually moving into the midfield. dunn and bate to play at c.h.f or on the wing switching. whelan, carrol, frawley bell, rivers, pettard johnstone, mclean, green bate, dunn, sylvia robertson, neitz, davey white, bruce, mcdonald int: P.Johnson, Jones, Yze, Bartram, Newton, Buckley, Bartram Emerg: Godfrey, Pickett, C.Johnson, Warnock, Garland (when moloney is fully fit he fits into the starting 18)

our number 1 priority for trade and draft period must be a ruckman. i have hope that PJ will be ok as a back up, with the ability to play key position as well...however what are we going to do after white retires. even with white, our ruck division is a liability, when it used to be so strong. for trade and draft: from most important 1) find a quality future number 1 ruckman! 2) draft a quality k.p.backman. rivers and carrol are our only options, with frawley the only promising up and comer. 3) a crumbing forward. davey is better option as a half forward/wing, and no1 else is a proper crumber. this is an underated, important position. 4) add another quality midfielder 5) add another key forward. this is not critical. we have neitz and robbo arequality. for my mind, bate will hold down c.h.f in years to come. dunn is also quality. newton is a developing key forward -
Melbourne bring disappointment down to an artform
sylvinator replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
to finish 10th we will need to win 9-10 games of the next 14.... i think more likely we will finish 13th or lower. that equates to a top 4 draft pick to add to our talented youngsters. next year, with a season more experience into our younger players along with the realization which players aren't up to standard (ala wheatley, miller, jamar, ward, bizzel) we will be a better off team for next year. lets be completely honest. what is better? coming 5-8th for 5 years, and not getting top quality draft picks...or unluckily bottoming out one year (due to many factors...injuries being a significant one) and then being stronger and more likely for a top4 finish the year after? -
consider this. we get mclean, rivers and robertson back... we are a big chance
-
i agree completely. newton should play. however he cannot be in the team with neitz, robbo, dunn and miller. its too top heavy. his only chance is if miller gets dropped, or someone gets injured. i am in favour for miller getting dropped. unfortunately he does not have a place in our team structure
-
no team has had injuries like us. adelaide have had injuries, yet they have only played 26 players this entire season. that means their starting 22 has been extrmeely stable. we have pretty much played out entire list... we have had neitz, robbo, moloney, johnstone, green, mclean, rivers, whelan, bartram out for extended periods throughout the season. take that quality out of any team and they will not be competative. that's not even taking into consideration that for abotu 4 games in a row we had 2 players out of the game by half time, limiting our ability to interchange, resulting in more injuries. from round 3-6 we fielded a team that could literally not be competative. this was not ND's fault. the game against the weagles was a disgrace, but 2 weeks previous we were in winning positions. i suspect 'gauca' would be speaking differently if we'd won those games. anyone who dismisses injuries as a legitimate excuse is the real fool, not someone who sees how they effect a team's competativeness
-
if geelong were 0-8, however they were missing 10 of their starting 18 for most of those games (including their best 2 forwards, and important defenders and midfielders) then thompson would not be sacked. u can't just take the 0-8 record without putting it into context. we couldv even had 2 wins on the board with a bit of luck. seeing as u state fact with no context, ur thread is rediculous and flawed. ND should not be sacked, and if he is, it should be at the end of the season

i am desperate to get newton into the demon side in the next month. play him while he's hot... i remember nick smith finally hit some form with sandy, and the coaching staff couldnt find an opening for him, and after 6 weeks starring in the vfl he got injured and never got back to that kind of form. it also happened to some extent to luke molan. it took too long for him to get into the senior team after a string of strong performances and ended up losing form and evertually getting injured again. im not suggesting that this is at all the fault of the selection committee, but if we have a guy who looks like he has the goods at vfl, and he's extremely young and talented, then a place must be found for him as soon as possible. i am extemely desperate to see frawley, newton and buckley becoming regulars in our starting 18 by years end. in some way, i hope daniher realizes we can't make finals this year, and puts emphasis on developing these guyz

the fact is that alwyn will eventually tear his hammy (like aaron did) and will lose a bit of pace. that will be the test to see whether he is quality. aaron has already passed

it seems very clear to me that the demons coaching staff are desperate to find another quality k.p backman. they have tried holland, warnock, bizzel, ferguson and others with limited success... frawley is clearly the big hope to become a quality k.p backman. the coaching staff will play him after 1 good vfl performance, of that i am sure. (unlike newton who must impress for 10 weeks before getting a look in). so...how did he play??? does he warrant selection? will it be soon? -

robbo was interviews on 97.7fm. he said it was good fun playing for sandy, and was impressed with their inability to win posession from the contests. seems certain to be playing for the demons next week, as he is clearly a level above vfl. in fact he is one of the better afl players going around so will be a gerat addition to the team. surely daniher can't ignore newton forever. he kicked 2, i missed 3 gettables, directly involved in atleast 2 others (one in which he got a bloke holding the ball but advantage was payed to sautner who kicked the goal instead of newts) -

22 point the margin- robertson 4, saunter 3, newton huges 2, liddel, garland 1 some of the goal scorers. newton very impressive. what a shame he couldnt kick 5 and really press for selection. he could have. robbo will definitely play next week meaning he probably won't get another chance this year unless dunn or miller get dropped or injured -
