  1. its true his kicking is poor, and it prevents him from being in the top 10 players in the afl (instead he in only in the top 50)...HOWEVER he is a star, because he has the biggest engine in our team, has a great footy brain (one of the best footy minds in the afl), and has an uncanny ability to find the football. his kicking does not make him a bad player. his average kicking only makes him a bit less of a star. fullstop. i have no time for people who continuisly bag bruce as a player.
  2. that was a rediculous decision. it was the crowd that forced that free kick. we will place no blame onto mclean, for he is our savior haha
  3. I know it makes me sound like a [censored], but I'm a little bit upset that Miller dominated. He simply doesnt have a place in our team unfortunately (unless he becomes the gorrila defender to replace Holland after he retires) and I'd prefer Newton to kick 6 ...
  4. rediculous how he has improved his game. last year he was like a 200cm [censored] cat, who was agile but couldnt ruck and couldnt take an overhead mark. now he's a strong marking ruckman was can play forward and has beuatiful skills and great agility. i like him
  5. people should understand.... Frawley will not be good next season unless he plays this season. tall defenders need experience! we know he is tall and quick...he will get stronger and make better decisions by playing games! keep him in the side.
  6. i would have a 5 man bench if i could fit him in...
  7. if you had to draft tomoz would you favour rucks, tall forwards, or midfielders more? or try and get one of each? i think my first pick would be the strong CHF if we could get one as good as the above mentioned. then i think it would be ruck (if the ruck was good enough to make an immediate impact) otherwise midfield. i think id try and trade for ruck or rookie another.
  8. oh woops...haha thanx mick
  9. Does anyone know the results? How'd Newton go specifically?
  10. Out of interest what is your best 22? Regardless we do agree that we have plenty of exciting prospects. Certainly a lack of players in particular positions though; as someone said you haven't listed too many KPPs.
  11. with neville inability to consistently break into the senior sandy squad, hed almost certainly have to be delisted at years end...seems he just cant crack it unforuntately... bode is gawwwnn as well but he's only a rookie
  12. honestly tell me if u watched the carlton bulldogs game. because if u did, u would realize how stupid u sound. he was absolutely fantastic on the weekend, really played a great game...showed that when he physically develops he will be a gun
  13. At the end of the year we will decide about how to combat our ruck worries post White... Either we will choose to use a high draft pick of a ruckman (Kruiser for example) and try to develop our own ruckman, PJ, Jamar, Neaves and a highly thought of draftee... Or we choose to trade for a ruckman. If we choose to trade for a ruckman then Charmen would be a good choice. He is quite young, has the ruck skills to be a number 1 ruck, is a very good player, and Brisbane have plenty of ruckman (Beau McDonald, Cameron Wood and Leunberger devloping) so they can safely release a ruckman.) i would comfortably trade a pick around 20 for Charmen... Though we traded the same for P.Johnson and West Coast picked up Matt Rosa who's an absolute gun, so...
  14. dont get too worked up about the '200 game' mark i mentioned.... i just meant it as a statement to show that they will make it as great afl footballers... i think it is significant how many of these players drafted have already proven to be in the best 22 players on our list. This doesnt happen very often that 9 players drafted in the last 4 years can do that. Next year will be another important drafting year because we could have 3 first rounders...
  15. I think we have drafted extremely well the last four years. In the previous years drafting before this we had plenty of misses, misfortune and poor judgements (including Nick Smith, Luke Molan, Steven Armstrong being among the misses). However I think we've turned it around recently, and the success of the recent drafts could form the basis to our team in years to come. 2003 draft- Colin Sylvia (3) - in our best 18 players. A future leader of the club and 200 game player. Brock Mclean (5) - in our best 18 players. A future captain and 200 game player. Could be our first champion in years. Chris Johnson (36 F/S) - Might not make it. But did not pay a high price for him (3rd rounder). 2004 draft- Matthew Bate (13) - in our best 18 players. A future CHF. Terrific player. 200 game player. Lynden Dunn (15) - in our best 22 players and will be in our best few players when he fully develops. Future 200 game player. Michael Newton (43) - Could be great, not fully developed. Potential to be a 200 game player). (Paul Johnson (36 - West Coast)- in our best 22 players. Could be a 200 game player. 2005 draft- Nathan Jones (12) - In our best 18 players. A future leader and 200 game player. Clint Bartram (60) - In our best 18 players. A future 200 game players. Has been injured this season, but do not underestimate his ability. Simon Buckley (53)- Could be great, not fully developed. Will play by seasons end. Similar position to Newton. Has the talent. Heath Neville (68)- might not make it. But did not pay a high price for him. 2006 draft- James Frawley (12)- In our best 22 players. Will be a certain best 18 player in years to come. Future 200 game player. Ricky Petterd (30)- in our best 18 players. A future 200 game player Colin Garland (46)- potential to make it. A first year player, so too early to tell really. Has a lot of development to go Isaac Weetra (62)- who knows...too early? Has lots of development to go. Did not pay a high price for him. Of the 15 players, at this extremely early stage 9 are already in our best 22. Three have shown with further development will move into our starting 22. And three might make it, might not, but none of these were high draft picks. Take into consideration that apart from the 2003 draft, all our picks were mid range picks. To pick a great player from pick 12-16 requires skill. Will we look back at these drafts one day and say they were the foundation to a premiership team?
  16. we should try and win as many games as we can...realistically if we win 8 that would be a fantastic achievement....and we would still come bottom 4. its important for the young players devlopement that we keep winning...good for the culture, good for winning mentality and it means that they are contributing and playing well
  17. Honestly YM if that is true, then our club is a disgrace... i like ur posting because they spark conversation and are ussually pretty funny. i usually just assume you say things to play devil's advocate...but come on...surely not
  18. just one more thing...i think some people are too impatient. They see that Newton is a fulltime fullforward at Sandy and therefore his devlopment is being stunted... Well he's only 19 years old. He has plenty of time to prove himself at Sandy level and then at senior level. If he plays 5 games this year, and then plays more regularly at senior level next season, this will be normal development for any fledgling fullforward. Especially seeing as Newton probably needed more time at Sandy than most to sort out his supposed personality issues which has been much talked about. I believe that when he eventually gets his place in the senior team, he will have worked hard and earned it. He will be a more mature player for playing through sandy
  19. great topic DW. I firmly believe the sandy partnership is a positive one. Some argue that because winning is seen as high priority at sandy, some of a youngsters are left rotting in the sandy 2s...i believe this is a positive thing. It means that our youngsters really have to earn their place in the team, and perform well...let's be brutally honest...if a player cant make the sandy 1sts then they probably arent good enough. And even then, there is proof that players who have played regularly in the sandy 2s, can eventually break into the 1sts and go onto the senior level. I point to Dunn and eventually Newton will also prove this... Secondly, having a winning culture is important. The fact that many of our youngsters have tasted multiple premiership success is only a positive thing. I would like someone to show me the Melbourne youngster who had his devlopment stunted because of Sandringham players taking their spots... Nearly all of our picks of the last 3 years have played through Sandringham and eventually played senior level and i they are all doing fine. Bate, C.Johnson, Dunn, P.Johnson, Sylvia and Jones have all played plenty of games for sandy, and are guns now. Frawley, Mclean, Pettard and Bartram were good enough to go straight into the senior team from the under 18s, which is the exception rather than the norm. Most players need to refine their skills at sandy first. The only players on our list who you could argue have been disadvantaged by the the sandy/melbourne affiliation are Newton and Buckley. Thye are both extremely young, and once they break into the senior team, poeple will realize that working through sandy is simply part of their devlopment to getting to the senior level. And in any case, both of them play almost full games for Sandy.
  20. well Warnock 2 years ago made his debut despite missing the previous 5 games to injury and only a half a game at sandy...so lets let frawley have a few games before he's labelled a love child
  21. and to be honest, it's easy to see why. every club needs a guy like him...he's massively popular. He's a hard worker, and great trainer. He runs his heart out every week. He took a really difficult path to afl footy and never takes it for granted. He is well respected by the younger players... on that same note, i never understood why daniher loved nicho so much.
  22. We will probably end up with pick 3-4 (seeing as carlton will win 5 games this year)... if Kruiser is still available by our pick, then we simply must take him. While White has been very good this year, he only has 2 seasons left in him. P.Johnson has proved a very good 2nd ruckman, with his pinch hit ability in the ruck, and his good ability aorund the ground...however i dont see him as ever becoming a number1 ruck. He will always be a very good backup ruckman who can play around the ground... Neaves is still learning and could be anything and Jamar is GAWN. i think atm we are [censored] after white retires, and picking up Kruiser will just be the perfect remedy. he is 200cm, meaning he isnt too tall. He is still agile enough to become a great key position player. And at 200cm he is a good height for a ruckman. His rucking still are considered top notch... Honestly we wil not get a better opportunity to find a replacement 10 year ruckman for White, and Kruiser will become a champ.
  23. YM thats a quality team...if only we could fit in McDonald...he can be depth
  24. honestly jaded there is no need to reply to such a childish argument... at August last year, the main critisism that could be said of bell was that he had poor awareness and was caught with the ball too often before he was able to make a decision...he has remidied this. he is now becoming an accomplished player...has speed, accountability, strength, agility and defensive nous....i still wish he always made the correct decision, but this will come with experience
