  1. Mckenna for me too. or O'Donnell... If anyone watches Daniher in the coaches box each week, he gets so worked up and frustrated...he screams and hits the phone screws his face up into a little ball... while this shows me that he cares about the club, and is passionate, i dont think we need a guy who gets so emotional and worked up in the coaches box. i would honestly prefer him to do less ranting and raving in the box, and instead look more controlled. For mine, Daniher is too emotional, and it contributes to him being out-coached...to often do i see daniher outcoached on match day
  2. noone in our team is as good as Judd. therefore, anyone is up for trade, even a great youngsters... i see bruce and davey as possible trade bait...if they demand Mclean id give it to them, because we are winning out of the deal bc Judd is a better, more damaging player than Mclean. If we got Judd we'd finally have a player in the top few players in the afl,and would actually have a crack at the premiership
  3. id trade mclean for Judd (might have to chuck in a 2nd round pick as well) et's get real...anyone who wants Judd (the best player in the competition) is going to have to give up their best youngish player... I love Mclean, i think he should be our next captain. but if we are seirous about getting Judd then he is the only player that comes close to compensating WestCoast. Before everyone jumps and screams, anyone neutral supporter of afl would have to agree that Judd is a much better footballer than Mclean. Thats no disrespect to Mclean, but he isnt in the top 10 players in the afl. i think if we offered Mclean, we might have a chance of getting Judd. If we offer green or White or Miller then we are just making a token gesture and are not serious about getting him
  4. figures to back up this statement? though seeing as we have probably conceded the most amount of goals in the comp, it sounds likely, but cant be blamed soley on carrol when the opposition gets the ball into the 50 twice as many times as us.
  5. if we are going to get judd, people must realize that one of bruce or Mclean will most probably have to be traded... as much as a i love both players, neither are as good as Judd, and if it means trading them to get Judd then tough decisions must be made
  6. anyone who thinks that was a one off from bruce knows nothing about football and certainly hasnt watched our first 10 rounds... he has done that every week, though in previous weeks he has not had support. green too has been pretty good this season without setting the world on fire... green perhaps should dominate games more though
  7. he has all the attributes to be a great key position defender, one we're desperately after... if melbourne identify him as being a 10 year tall defender, then he should play every game for the rest of the year... tall defenders always struggle abit against quality experienced forwards at first...the only way to improve is for him to play more footy. we will be a better team next season if he plays (and perhaps even struggles abit) through this season
  8. i know it says he kicked 5, but he wasn't in the best... can someone who saw the match describe his game? was it influencial... i saw the game hen he kicked 2.6 and thought he was outstanding...surely he has to crack a game. if they don't play him soon then he might lose form abit, or get injured perhaps...bloody hell play the guy while he's hot!
  9. you dont trade your best players unless there's a massive reason to (to get Judd maaayyybbeee) was a rediculous article and lost credibility because he suggested trading players like bruce and green for 2nd round picks...if you were to trade these players as he suggested, you would only do so to get something valuable in return... a second round pick you pick up an 18 yr old who might be good in 2 years, and might be great, who knows...for Green or Bruce, 26 year old players who are great now.
  10. i couldn't make the game today but i watched it on t.v... and it sounded like our supporters were more vocal than i've ever heard before... i seriously think it even affected a few umpiring decision, and certainly inspired the players to go in harder... great stuff to all those supporters at the ground... i was wondering if supporters noticed the noise difference at the ground? what was the official crowd attendence
  11. what impressed me about bell and carrol also, was finally our defence found the ability to close quickly on the leading forward and get a punch in... it's so inspirational when a guy punches it away like carrol and bell did all day today... add in whelan instead of Ward (how many turnovers...hmm) and rivers back into the defence perhaps to replace Brown, and that is a promising defence for the future. i like wheatley, i think he is much better option than brown or ward because his kicking skills are so great and damaging
  12. i think Bate played Millers exact role today... the only difference if that Bate is better mark, certainly a better decision maker, and a much better kick...and to top it off he knows how to kick a goal... basically a better version of miller. dunn and bate dual CHF with one playing more like a wingman would be great
  13. wow what a game by greenie! some might say that many of those possessions were uncontested, but the point is that if you're going to have uncontested possessions, then make them damaging possessions...today he certainly influenced the game and was best on ground by far! 2 heroic marks really inspired the team, his kicking into the forward line was terrific. great all round game from him today
  14. if newton kicks a bag this week, u'd think he'd almost have to be played next round. i hope he makes the most of it today
  15. miller should be used as trade bait...i believe hewill have market value. (22 yr old 194cm CHF). he is not bad either, but doesnt fit into out team well... as for us needing a marquee player, i strongly disagree we trade for one...to get a pavlich or judd we will have to trade 2 of our best players and draft pick most likely...its just not worth it...it will stunt out overall teams devlopment for 1 player... i think a clever thing to do would be to go for a very very good player which will be forced out by clubs going for a judd or pavlich... im looking at Nicoski, Braun, Embly, fletcher, Thornton (fremantle) and other such players...someone great is going to be forced out because judd and pavlich will cost the club they sign for atleast 800,000...
  16. i dont see how sandy has ruined players development. neaves has played first ruck for sandy almost this entire season as a 19 yr old...how is that bad for his development...CJ plays full games for sandy each week, if he was god enough for afl level then he would be starring... i can understand how people could say that sautner has stunted our k.p forwards' developments abit, but newton seems to be doing fine and still able to kick goals and push for seniorn selection through sandy... the only players who don't make sandy seniors are guyz like neville and 1st year draftees....and those 1st year draftees almost always push into the senior sandy team by their second year, if not by the end of their first year. Dunn played abit in sandy ressies, and his devlopment has been fine... i think we will say the same for newton in years to come... lets be honest, if a guy on our list isn't good enough toplay sandy seniors, he isn't good enough for afl level...
  17. how is it not fact that rivers has OP when daniher said so himself in the interview on channel ten news...came from his lips
  18. wat a bummer with rivers... i like the changes, i think wheatley definitely deserves a chance to atleast try to prove he is up to afl level...he could be a good player when playing at his best, and deserves a go as much as anyone else. i would like to see dunne back in the seniors very very soon, and newton to debut within the next couple of weeks
  19. in terms of key defenders, i am confident we have found a player in Frawley. other than him we already have 2 quality key backs in rivers and carrol. (i am becoming a big fan of carrol). as i see it now our main problem is the 3rd defender. at the moment holland, bizzel or warnock are capable of filing the role, and long term it will be Frawley or maybe even Warnock it terms of rucks, i agree we have a problem post white, however while white is around i believe P.Johnson is a very capable 2nd ruckman... it terms of finding a future replacement number 1 ruckman in 3 years time for when white retires, i believe we will recruit a ruckamn next year (Kruiser possibly) and neaves could be long term...but the point is that if we're talking about next couple of years, then while White is still around, then P.J is quickl improving to becoming a very good second ruckman. about leg speed in the midfield, i think you'll find that our lack of midfield speed looks worse because we are losing. jones, mclean, and green are not slow players, they just look ordinary in terms of speed when we lose every week. when we start winning i dont think leg speed will be such a problem... i honestly dont think leg speed is something we have to worry about...i think were more likely to win games of football if we winn the overall clearences for a match and have relatively fast players...we lost clearences 36-22 against the kangaroos...id argue that was more a reason we lost than leg speed
  20. Many have seen our 0-9 start as proof that we are far way away from a premiership or atleast a top 4 position... i don't necessarily think this is true. this year is shot...no doubt about that...however i strongly believe next season we could easily go straight from bottom 4 into top 4. i think we are not too far away, and the deficiencies we have, we are in the process of strengthening. with a top 4 draft pick next season, and another season of experience into a stack of young players, and we could fly back up the ladder next year. remember that we didn't make finals in 1999, and in 2000 we made a GF! it can happen! 1) next season we will have another year of experience into Bate, Pettard, Frawley, Sylvia, Bell, Bartram, N.Jones, Dunn and P.Johnson. It is very possible that all these 9 players will be in our starting 18 next season, how exciting does that sound. All these players are capable of being great, not just good...in the long run, players like Ward, Brown, Holland and Wheatley won't even be a shade of these players. all these youngsters are improving each week, and this season will be important for their development so they can be solid contributers every week next season 2) players like Carrol, Whelan, Mclean, Bruce, Green, Johnstone, Robertson, Rivers and Davey will all officially be strong senior players (no longer considered young, or inexperienced or weak) All these players have shown strong improvement this year despite our terrible start. i am particularly happy with Carrol, Bruce and davey this year, Green and johnstone have been pretty good and are important to our team and the others can be let off due to injury, but will be stronger and fitter next season with preseasons under their belt. don't forget Moloney could be another addition if he can get his body right and Miller if he can get his game under control. 3) our older players are still strong enough to make very solid contribution, however they are no longer the be all and end all. next season they will offer experience, leadership and guidence, without the pressure that it all falls onto them. These players include Neitz, McDonald, Yze, Pickett, Holland and Bizzel. 4) our dead wood will be delisted and to replace them will be a number of high draft picks (there could be 4 picks in the top 35 next year!) Ward, Brown, Wheatley, Ferguson and Jamar all all ggaawwwnnnn and Neville has been a low draft pick that hasn't come off. 5) we will still have a number of youngsters that will push into the team putting pressure for spots. Newton, C.Johnson, Kruiser!!! and Warnock will be pushing strongly to play...plus there will always be godfrey to come into the team and do a solid job for us when required. I love the guy despite all his deficiencies i reckon we are the one club that can definitely say...'there's always next year.' We definitely still have a chance to go for the premiership in the next 3 years imo despite this disaster of a season. We can take this season as an abberation, use it to develop our players, and pick up a 199cm Ruckman/Key position future champion in the draft
  21. woewoden or daniel bell? who would people prefer? craig ellis or troy simmonds? hmmmm
  22. honestly i hope we win atleast 8 games this year. seeing as we are going to start playing younger players, we may as well start them in a winning culture. it's extremely important for us to win a few games so the youngsters gain confidence... however if we are only going to win 5 games, we may as well win 4 and a half and get another 1st round pick. if we'd won 5 games (instead of 4) in the year we picked up sylvia, then we would have missed out on Mclean...i know sylvia was technichally the priority pick, but if we only had pick 3 or 4, then we wouldn't have picked up mclean because he wasn't as highly rated as sylvia or ray at that time. this about wat a big difference an extra 1st round pick could be, compared to winning one extra game...it's a fine balance
  23. i agree completely. though reality is we won't delist 8 players. therefore godfrey should be kept next season as backup tagger to bartram. holland should be kept as back up k.p. defender behind rivers, carrol, warnock and frawley or back up forward in case of injuries. pickett and brown should be kept as solid depth players. i'd add jamar to ur list. therefore, delist bizzel, ward, wheatley, ferguson and jamar. trade miller if we can get something good for him. trade green only if we can get something extemely great for him in return. don't trade him just for the sake of it. then pick up Kruiser (199cm ruckman/ key forward...set to be the next champion of the game) and use our other 4 top 30 picks wisely.
  24. If Miller has market value (i think he may, being a 22 year old 194cm strong CHF) then we should definitely trade him. he is a decent player who may become even better playing at another afl team, however i just feel he doesnt fit in well with our team structure. if we got a late first rounder for him, (around 12-16) which is possible, id trade him forsure... imagine picks 2, 12, 18, 20 and 36 next season. that bodes exciting time for our team!
  25. guyz, let face it. our defence has always been our weakeness. our midfield is fine. we have future 10 year midfielders in mclean, jones and bartram. we have flankers who could become midfielders in years to come in sylvia, bell, bate, dunn and buckley. we have strong experienced players in green, bruce, johnstone, moloney, mcdonald. our forward line remains potent. neitz, robbo, dunn, newton and miller remain a strong contingent of forwards, along with davey, yze, bate, green, sylvia and others moving through. our problem is that we have too many mediocre/incapable defenders in our team at the moment. guyz that shouldn't be playing afl, or who are so old they won't be in 2 years...they include ferguson, holland, wheatley, ward, brown and bizzel... therefore, seeing as our season if shot, we should play a solid back 6 every game, so that they can gain experience together as a unit. this is extremely important for a defence. Whelan, Carrol, Frawley Pettard, Rivers, Bell with Bartram and C.Johnson given shots at flanker roles as well and warnock given a go in the key post... this is our defence of the future. they will not succeed unless they are given time to gell together as a unit. we will be a better team if we do this, because by seasons end: carrol will have around 65 games experience Whelan more than 100 Rivers around 60 bell around 40 and pettard and Frawley almost 20... as a unit they can move forward together. if we do not do this then we will come into next season without brown, ward, bizzel, ferguson and wheatley and these boys will have no experience and another season will be wasted!
