Miller will not be playing for us in 3 years time. Bate will be playing CHF forsure, not in the midfield. sticky hands and a goal sense are hard to come by. 2010: Bell, Carrol, Whelan Wheatley, Rivers, Pettard Johnstone, Mclean, Green Bruce, Bate, Sylvia Davey, ???, Newton ????, Jones, Moloney Int: Bartram, PJ, Dunn, Frawley, Buckley, Garland, Hayes notable players delisted or retired in the next 2-3 years: Neitz (32), Robertson (29), Yze (30), Brown (30), Ward (29), Pickett (30), Godfrey (27), Holland (30), Bizzel (30), White (30), Jamar (delisted), Ferguson (delisted), Neville (delisted), Warnock (delisted), C.Johnson (delisted), Miller (traded) it's pretty obvious where our recruiting needs to focus in the next couple of years! priority no 1) The next full forward. if not newton, then who? draft a couple, one with a high pick, one a speculative pick, so that we have 2-3 options and hopefully one makes it priority no 2) The next no1 ruckman. if not neave and PJ then we need to draft one. PJ will always be a no2 ruckman and good around the grounds. next 2 years we must draft a couple, one with a high pick and one a lower pick so hopefully 1 will come through. priority no 3) 1 or 2 extra midfielders. As in midfield midfielders (not flankers who can go thru the middle for a few minutes). we need a couple more quality ones but this shouldnt be hard to find via the draft. priority no4) a goal sneak. if not Hayes or weetra, then draft a couple more.

Hille accepted his one-game suspension and will miss the melbourne game... it's definitely easier not having him out there, but i think the combination of white and PJ could quite easily combat Hille. this guy is solid and decent around the grounds, but people shouldnt overrate his ability. he is no jeff white on a side note, i honestly dont see why white couldnt be all-australian ruckman by years end. he is our only player who would even be in contention, and considering there are no standout ruckman this season, his consistent form warrants selection. note: he is the leading possession winner of all ruckman, and his possessions actually count whether up forward, in the hole in defence, or playing the link man in the midfield. his rucking hasn't been too bad either and hasnt been outclassed too often at ruck contests. The only other considerations for ruckman AA this year are Hamish McIntosh (great youngster but doesnt have the influence of white at this stage) and Everitt (has been inconsistent, and never gets possies). cox and sandilands wouldnt be in contention this year bc of injury/form

people often say that Newton flies for spectacular marks, and it seems that's ok because daniher has given him instructions to do so if he wants to... but just a question...does he often stick these marks? does he has Bate-like sticky hands? does he stick the marks on the lead every time? this is vital if he is to become our next fullforward so i was just wondering...people always seem to be noting that he flies for marks, but rarely do people note how he took one of these high flying grabs.

Brown didnt play for Sandy for a reason. he will play on friday night. I'd say the first 4 playersn in if their are 4 changes to be made are Pickett, Brown, Yze, Whelan. Dunn, Miller, Buckley and CJ didnt put their hands up for selection. Newton is a chance because he would directly replace Neitz, but i still dont think they'll start playing him untill we mathematically cant make the finals. I dont mind this, because if Daniher sees him as being a 10 year replacement for Neitz, making him work his butt off for the position could be a clever move. Considernig the type of player Newton is, with his supposed attitude problems, handing him a place in the team on a silver platter could be the worst thing for him in the long run...just something to think about

thanx for the reports guyz. it is vital that we develop a really quick forward pocket crumber now that davey is moving more onto the wing. it would be great if Hayes could fulfill that. i hope he does... Newton has just been so good the last 5 weeks for sandy. he is consistently kicking goals at this level, there is no reason why he cant do that at afl level if given a go. seeing as we dont have that many players who can kick goals consistently at senior level (only Neitz 32yrs old, Robbo 29yrsold really...hopefully Bate and Sylvia will develop this in the future), it is in our interests to get this guy into the senior afl team. i dont think daniher will play him until we mathematically cant make the finals. the next match we lose, i predict he will be included. if he can play 8 games in the 2nd half of the year it will leave him in good stead to make an impact next season. If we dont play him regularly this second half of the year, then next season he will need to gain experience, meaning a year of potential devlopment wasted. i also hope Miller stays out of the team while Bate is performing. Whelan is in our top 10 players, he should definitely play next week. As should Pickett. its probably his last season and he definitely adds to our team, so y not play him. dunn should come back into the team soon, perhaps he will only cement his spot after we mathematically cant make finals

Jones will be a solid, great player for this club for the next 10 years i am sure. we can only hope that he will become a player similar to Simpson of the kangaroos. he will never be as great as Mclean or Bate however. These 2 have the potential to be top 20 players in the afl. (sylvia might be too who knows) i can see jones being the type who always plays solidly and well, is in hard and plays by example.

i forgot Frawley who i put in the developing, but he is in our best 22 at the moment, and will be in our best 18 by years end. i have big wraps on this kid. i am confident he will become a really successful key position defender. they are not easy to come by but he had all the attributes

i like that list, just a couple of subtle changes in mine: Bell, Carrol, Whelan Wheatley, Rivers, Pettard Johnstone, Mclean, Jones Green, Bate, Sylvia Davey, Neitz, Robertson White, McDonald, Bruce Interchange: Moloney, P.Johnson, Bartram, Yze Emergency: Miller, Dunn, Bizzel Depth: Pickett, Ward, Brown, Godfrey, Holland, Warnock Developing: Newton, Buckley, Garland, Weetra Gaawwwwnn: Jamar, Ferguson, Neville, C.Johnson Watch out for this rookie: Neaves (19 years old ruckman holding down the ruck for entire games for top of the ladder vfl team. very highly rated) Thats the entire list. The main problem i see is that at years end there are 4 players (ggaawwnn) clearly not good enough for afl level. these players should be delisted, but that leaves our depth players at 5 above 30 years old. While its good that these players are no longer the core of our team, i wish we could bring in 8 youngsters next year to replace those oldies with youn up and comers. but the reality is that we shuld only change over maximum 5 players over the preseason. we also need to seriously start looking at a new FF and ruck to replace Neitz and White.

i think at years end we should definitely sack Neale Daniher! this is DESPITE the fact that daniher is quite a good coach, has developed our list nicely, and has quite a good record of success considering the list he had to play with... this really should not be taken into consideration...the decision to keep or sack daniher should be whether or not 10 years if enough, whether the demons need a change. do we need a change. i say YES! 10 years means basically every player has only known daniher as their coach. i really like daniher. i think that he does get outcoached on game day, however he bleeds melbourne and is really passionate about the club. BUT 10 YEARS WITHOUT A PREMIERSHIP! anyone who wants to keep him are just happy with mediocre and are not serious about winning a premiership

roughhead and franklin...surely these 2 players at pick 2 and 5 will rivals stkilda coup when they picked up riewalt and kochitzski. jeez some clubs get lucky... and and btw, how much i wish we had traded ferguson for sewell a couple of years back. sewels a gun

i dont see weher u base that from. at his best, he is hard working, a strong mark on the lead making an option for us at CHF. he has always done this well and has regularly take more than 10 marks in a game. the thing that has failed him is his inability to know what to do with the ball once he's got it. as a defender he doest have to worry about this. however as a CHF, being able to use the ball effectively 80meters out from goal is the most important trait of all!
-
he has the skills, he just doesnt have the footy smarts. his decision making is shizen. therefore play him in a position where decisions are kept to a minimum. i.e. guerilla defender (just there to stop the guerillas from touching the ball) or Fullforward (once u mark it go back and shoot for goal...no stupid handpasses and passes) THATS HOW HE WILL MAKE IT AT AFL LEVEL AGAIN
-
ok so maybe he wont make it as a defender. he's actually been tried there and didnt do very well... but theres a big difference between playing as a FF out of the goalsquare and playing as CHF 80m out from goal, which is the position he has failed at bc of his decision making. lead and marking and taking the occasional strong contested grab is what he can do...maybe he could be the answer to our post-neitz era problems. if he can keep kicking bags at sandy playing as a deep FF, maybe he can do that at AFL level. its worth a try!

i think it is widely agreed that the miller experiment at CHF is over. he is simply not up to scratch. he should be commended for filling the void while we had no-one else to do the job, however the development of Master Bate and Sylvia have seem an end to this. i think as a CHF he did mark strongly on the lead and offer us a constant option through hard running, however his decision making was rediuclously bad, he simpmly does not have a great footy brain, and this led to his downfall as a player. HOWEVER, if he is able to kick bags of goals at vfl, then maybe he could recreate his afl career in a different position. it is well documented that we are fuked after neitz retires, as atm our replacement FF are newton (an untried 20yrold) and robbo (a midsized forward). Playing out of the goalsquare would mean he could utilize his strong body and strong mark on the lead. because he will be inside 50, he will not have to make any decisions and will not be tempted to do those crappy handpasses he does outside the 50m arc. If he could develop into this position it will be only to the benefit on the MFC, and it will save us from wasting high draft picks and trades for a replacement FF. so i dont know why people are so quick to not give him a chance to make it again as a FF at afl level. it would be awesome for the dees if he did. I personally think another potential weakness in 2 years time will be after Holland retires we will have noone to play of the guerillas. Once again, seeing as he has failed to really cut it as an afl CHF, maybe he could recreate himself as a defender who will play 10 games a year, coming in for the Roccas, Richos, Halls and Lucases of the afl (like Holland does so very effectively now). He in 194cm, extermely strong and quite quick so will have decent closing speed. Playing this position will require him to simply punch the ball, or mark it, in which case he can simply wait for a midfielder to run around his back and give it off. His decision making will not be relevent. Once again, if he can develop into this position, it will be to the great benefit of the MFC because it would mean that we dont have to go out and draft or trade for this kind of player! With that in mind, i think it is VITAL that Daniher realizes that he cant make it as a CHF, and at least makes an attempt to develop him into one of the two positions (FF or guerilla defender). this would mean that miller should play a few games at sandy in either of these positions, and daniher should play him in the seniors to see if he could make the cut. I can see Miller becoming a good player as a FF or guerilla defender, because they positions play to his strengths, and hide his weakness (the face that he's not a smart footballer) The truth is, if Miller can't reinvent himself into another position, he will either be delisted or traded (we could prob get a 3rd rounder for him). It would be a shame to see him just get delisted like that, because as a 22yrold, 194cm strong muscley player, surely he can offer something. lets atleast give him the chance to do this!

you've named two centre half backs on the flanks and left the CHB position vacant. why dont u place rivers or frawley CHB and put in wheatley, pettard or buckley in the flanks. basically, anyone can manipulate the team like you've done. in terms of CHF, miller and Bate are both CHFs, why dont u put them in there. imo, our two main concerns for team 2009 are fullforward post Neitz and the ruck post white. the ruck position is improving with PJ, neaves and 2 ruckman to be drafted at years end...we should be alright. for fullforward, we either have to draft one, or hope newton comes on. thats the worry, not CHB (rivers) and CHF (bate/miller)

How much better is Paul Johnson than Mark Jamar?

while i think its great to have hope for the finals, we realistically will not make it this season. we should just focus on winning the majority of matches and developing a youthful starting 22 that plays a good brand of footy so that we can have an assualt of 2008
-
because miller is not flexible there is 2 ways he will become a successful afl footballer 1) he improves his decision making at CHF and learns how to kick more goals 2) he learns how to play against the guerillas to replace holland as holland is over 30 if he cannot excell in either of these positions bby years end he will be traded or delisted

his nickname is the kid. im not offering it up as a suggestion, just stating wat it is (obth by players and supporters)

we are not going to make finals realistically. we will stumble somewhere. lets get real. if we were clever we would start preparing for next year. that doesnt mean that we dont go out and try to win every game. but it does mean a) we start deciding the players who wont be there next year and dont play them again 3 definites who are gawn are jamar, neville, and and ferguson. do not play them again. hard decision to be made on N.Brown, C.Johnson, Pickett and miller. if decide one isnt going to be here next year then do not play them again B) decide which youngster will feature heavily next season and play them regularly. do not drop them unless they are terribly out of form. pettard, frawley, sylvia, jones, bate, PJ, Bartram, Newton and Buckley should all play regularly. a guy like frawley wil not be good next season if he doesnt play this season. experience is important get it into them. c) if we need guyz in certain possisions next yr, play them there. e.g. if miller if neaded to play against the gorrillas, then play him against them. if frawley is intended as a key position, give him a go
