Appalling is a stretch surely. Judge accepted their actions were reasonable and left it to the parties to sort out the costs. As someone who pays membership fees I would expect the club look to push them onto Lawrence as he brought the case, I’d prefer my fees pay footballers and coaches than lawyers. Doesn’t seem all that controversial to me.

“Independent review” is a myth. Who does the review? Ex-players? do any exist that don’t have some sort of axe to grind about something? We let Gaz pick the coach once and that went well. Do we get ex-players from other clubs? Why do they give a [censored] if we get better or not? Corporates? What do they know about running a football club? What’s the scope? Is it the board to the bootstudder? That could take years. Is it just the football department? Medical? we didn’t drag ourselves out of the mud with independent reviews, the AFL put Jackson and Roos in charge and they ran the club as a proper club should run. Maybe we need change at the footy department but a review won’t tell you that. The board and CEO need to make their judgements and act on them, which we can’t do at the current time with all the noise going on as it would be an absolute feeding frenzy from the journos. No idea who Lawrence is apart from all this noise, I’m sure he means well but as per @FreedFromDesire he probably needs to pipe down for a bit - now’s not a good time to be agitating imo.

If there was nothing going on he could shut it down in 2min. That’s what agents/managers get paid to do, eg: “Christian is focussed on recovering from his injuries and expects to be back playing with the Demons in 2025.” Putting that out calms everything down a lot, and the best bit is it doesn’t even have to be true they can keep working on trades all day long if they want to. Not issuing anything is harming the club and the only way to read that is that’s what he wants to do.

Ah makes sense.

“his camp have considered using it before even in a very different circumstance” that would indicate to me a) he’s wanted out for a while and b) had to argue a current grievance is so grave if you already thought about claiming other grievances previously, seems like you just want out of a contract you signed of your own free will.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
Fact is whatever anyone thinks of the board, management or coaching staff the club can’t make any changes while one player is trying to blow the club up from the inside. Trac (or his team) leaking and whispering means the club has to bunker down and back those in their roles until that situation is resolved and probably until after next year is underway. Can’t have one unhappy player dictate the whole structure of the club.

Spare me Gerard. Gonna be a long summer if the self appointed moral guardian of the afl is going to list all our shortcomings day-in-day-out. Any word on cats players found on the floor of nightclubs or is that only something that happens at clubs with bad culture? Trac’s management would be very happy with that little soliloquy.

Not smart business from the Trac camp if you ask me. Yes he’s been through a traumatic experience this year but my advice would be to get back on the field first before starting this “I’m taking my talents to south beach” nonsense. Fine, if you wanna play in front of the big crowds cos that’s what think you you deserve (you [censored]) but there’s plenty to go right before you even get back out in front of any crowd. Maybe he thinks it’s now or never cos he’s realised the impermanence of existence but can’t imagine it going down well if the Blues or Filth or whoever put up a whole bunch of picks and players and their fans get to watch cooking vids from Noosa while he spends 2025 in recovery. Trying to back us into a corner by dropping every excuse under the sun is hurting us but if he can’t be honest about it with himself, the club or his teammates and won’t front up to the fans then he can sit on the bench at Casey next year for all I care and we can reassess whether he’d like to be a little less demanding about where he plays in 2026. Some players want to carry their club, some want to be put on a pedestal. Patty Cripps had any reasons over the past decade to be a bit miffed with the blues? He’s stayed and carried that club when it would’ve been easier to walk to a contender. Give me a leader like that any day of the week.

Goody is a genius!!!
So you are angry at Goody cos everyone else has been wrong? Cos the consensus half way through the 3rd quarter in the 2021 GF was that Bont had a premiership medal and a norm smith around his neck - everyone was wrong about that too. We won a flag in 2021, didn’t go back to back cos all our good players were hurt by finals in 2022, lost two finals by less than 2 goals combined in 2023 and we’re still in with a shot of playing finals this year. Maybe just enjoy the win instead of holding on to your anger about prior years. No one is owed a flag, a lot needs to go right no matter how good your list is and we haven’t had much luck since ‘21.

Are we witnessing a re-build by stealth
Seriously overrates the Hawks, Crows, Saints & Bombers imo. Hawks top 5 listed: Day, Newcombe, Weddle, Watson, Ginnivan - I’d take Day and Newcombe keep the rest. Crows: Rankine, Rachele, Michalanney, Soligo, Keane - I’d take Rankine (though Koz is better). Saints: King, Owens, Wanganeen-Milera, Phillipou, Henry - I’d take King (JVR will be better) and Owens. Bombers: Martin, Caldwell, Durham, Caddy, Perkins - I’d take Caldwell and Durham. Our top 5 is as good as any on there and are still improving. Probably don’t have the depth of young talent as some of the genuinely better lists but we’ve been in the top 4 for 3 years which limits your drafiting. Much better placed than that article suggests.

I mean I get it, he’s not playing well. He knows it, goody knows it, and after 18 weeks of pregame, game day and postgame threads everyone on demonland knows it. Clearly no one at Casey is rated higher than he is so if he’s fit he’s getting picked. Posting day in day out about how bad he’s going isn’t changing that and it’s getting a bit boring.

PREGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
History will repeat at every club every year as players that can’t crack the 1s leave for other opportunities. It happens. You mention Laurie, Brown & Woey - well if Laurie can get a regular spot in anyone else’s 1s good on him, I don’t see it myself. Brown and Woey too early to know if they’ll make it, and too early for either of them to be cracking the sads about selection too imo. Who do you drop for those 3?

PREGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
You pick your best 22 to win games, not to keep players happy in case they get a better offer in the trade period. If we knew Gus was going to get concussed in the QF and then retire preseason then maybe we should’ve given Jordon more game time through 2023 but that’d be some extreme Nostradamus foresight. He wasn’t good enough to win a spot over others so he played as sub. Toby was behind Kos, Chandler, ANB and probably would still be now.. you can’t fit everyone in, that’s just how it goes. Nothing shameful about it.

Kozzie Pickett - 100 games
Some absolute junk comments. “100 games for just over 100 goals”? He’s kicked 150 goals in 99 games so ‘just over’ is doing some real heavy lifting there. Of the top 20 in his draft Koz is: #1 for games played #1 for goals, ahead of Cody Weightman on 119. #2 for goals per game behind Weightman, 1.75 vs 1.52. Georgiades is the only other to average >1 per game. #4 for tackles behind Rowell, Serong and Tom Green. #5 on tackles per game as Hayden Young sneaks ahead of him. #1 for goal assists overall and per game. #2 for marks i50 overall and #3 for mi50 per game. He’s elite, and he’s going to get better.
