  1. But Scott and Hardwick have more respect despite the fact that North got smashed by Collingwood and Richmond got smashed by Hawthorn. FMD, try to run a consistent line across 3 paragraphs will you. It mean FA about respect - all three teams are developing and will have erratic performances. I think I'll just come back in 3 years.
  2. whatever gets you thru the night.
  3. There's defensive and offensive strategy, the press is both. To beat the press with the press you have to better at it but that quickly becomes a war of attrition over the years, alternatively there may be a different way. And it is possible that offensively defeating the press while defensively implementing it are exclusive. If so it does make it hard for us to practice against it at training as I've noted previously.
  4. I simply cannot understand why Watts was sub last week - it was a massive chance for him to make an impact and gain confidence, the only explanation I can think of is that he was a bit sore. When he came on he was very good. I think it's probably Bennell's turn and not because he isn't performing - Mark William's review was very happy with him.
  5. That's right - you end up with most skillful defender on least skillful forward - one of their top 6 on one of our bottom 6. If our forward is intent on getting separation from that backman we're in trouble. The damage the backman will do is much greater than the forward. It's not quite that simple - all forwards need to apply defensive pressure so that backmen aren't free to create - that's what Jurrah needs to improve, and all backs need to be able to attack, otherwise the opposition will alweays let that defender get the ball when the opposition is in possession, that's Bartram's and Warnock's limitation - but that's a whole other story. The attacking defender will be a good reader of the play and know when to play tight and when to zone off to become an attacking option - you can't let him dictate the terms. The defensive forward will play close to the defender and sometimes take advantage of the separation the defender is trying to achieve and score himself. Goals by Dunn are a big bonus.
  6. I'm going to assume you guys are taking the [censored], it's easier to believe than the alternative ... All teams have defensive and attacking backmen - some gun backmen like Scarlett and Frawley can be both at once. Defensive backmen play on attacking forwards like Jurrah who kick goals. Jurrah does have an obligation to pay defensive regard to his opponent, especially if they're a gun. The attacking backs used to take the weakest attacking forward, play off them, rely on coverage from the defensive backs who outnumber the forwards and provide heaps of drive from the backline. In the recent decade or so, possibly while you were napping, coaches started playing defensive forwards on the attacking backs. These defensive forwards' primary job is to nullify that attacking backman and it's a bonus if they provide attack themselves, in fact that helps them nullify the attacking back by making him more accountable, that's Dunn's role. Jurrah attacking, some defensive. Dunn defensive, some attacking.
  7. Liam Jurrah: Liam was lively up forward and kicked three goals, but he must continue to attack the ball and present. He also needs to keep working on his forward pressure.
  8. How long is the beard Rumple?
  9. As some are suggesting - I'd take more notice of this: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/111963/default.aspx Lynden Dunn: Lynden played a really good role for the team. He controlled Nathan Bock for much of the match, but the real strength of Lynden’s game was that he was strong in his position. btw - some other whipping boys: Jamie Bennell: Jamie was fantastic on the wing. He provided great rebound and attack inside 50. He also spread well, which helped us move the ball out of our defensive 50. Jamie’s positioning on the wing was very good and he played his game well. Nathan Jones: Nathan had a really good game. His positioning off the wing was fantastic and the way he ran and carried the ball was strong. It was another good display from Jonesy. Cale Morton: Cale was good on the wing. He was good away from the stoppages and in general play. His positioning was good and he continued to step-up in his second game back for the season. He also kicked three goals. Jack Watts: When Jack came on for Liam Jurrah, as a substitute he quickly ran around and got involved. He was good with his physicality and did a few good things for the time he was on the ground.
  10. Permission to hose yourself down granted.
  11. VFL footballers unfortunately ... we might just have the good brother for once
  12. He's living in the studio where they filmed the moon landing with LHO's accomplices and the alien from Area 51.
  13. Talking about a timespan across 2 different recruiters also.
  14. refused classification
  15. Both probably warming a seat but one should be play.
  16. That's a concern. It makes sense that Moloney was demoted from the "leadership" in this context. I'll directly contradict myself elsewhere and say that we may be missing McDonald's and Bruce's influence here.
  17. I like "the Pies" but wouldn't call them "the Maggies" that's for sure.
  18. Good post IMO. Yes Scully and McKenzie are best 22 and must come in, there'll be other injuries. We're getting closer to a settled 22. It's a positive that McDonald and Bruce aren't on the list - even though that does affect our results this year it's beneficial long term.
  19. Yep I think that was in the player review from R2 - Liam needs to get back to basics in his game - or similar.
  20. True not every player is a hard-nut but our best 22 contains Watts, Bennell, Morton, Jurrah and Davey - however the first 4 are developing players.
  21. R2 vs Carlton must've just been a nightmare after all!
  22. I've always hated "Dees", they're "Demons" to me Maybe "Tappsco" is more manly Altho calling something "gay" is a bit "Dees" itself
  23. Hypnosis!
  24. I want Ablett to play - great experience for Bail - I really like him as the defensive mid. It allows McKenzie to play a more attacking role and use his clearance winning ability.
  25. That is the general concern. Maybe that's the answer - "the man on man zone". I think you're channeling Bhima here.
