  1. There's not many misses in this list going back 10 years ... Scully, Kruezer, Murphy, Thomas, Ellis, Deledio, Roughead, Griffen, Cooney, Walker, Sylvia, Hodge, Ball, Judd
  2. It would be fairer for Port if they retained it as-is for one more year - Port is the team most hurt by the compromised drafts and deserve a #1 pick if they win less than 5 this year. However it would be a disaster if GC won less than 5 and also qualified - altho I'm pretty confident they will win 5+. Personaly I'd go one more year as-is and then change to start of 2nd round for less than 5 wins - no matter how many years in a row. One possible enhancement - This is a pretty tradeable pick - maybe they could make it like the GWS mini-draft pick but force it to be traded for a player (not picks), then other clubs could bid for it with seasoned players - it's more likely to deliver a ready-to-go player to the struggling club.
  3. Always award a pick at the start of round 2 is the way to go IMO. This should be helpful - in theory if you finish last and are the only team to qualify you've had 3 picks by the time al the other teams have had one. i.e. 1 (1st pick R1 for finishing last), 19 (prio pick), 20 (1st pick R2) - but it's not worth tanking for pick 19.
  4. moved the Cale Morton posts to the Cale Morton thread. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/28724-cale-morton/page__st__40

There's a persuasive argument that McLardy interviewing the team leaders in that week provided the distraction and destabilisation that caused 186. What else was significantly different in the lead up? Now maybe you can mount an argument that 186 was the debacle we had to have.
  6. And what's going to be the "most of their problems"? They'll be under extra pressure on field to perform and heavily sledged and physically targetted by the opposition - this goes straight to the point of whether they'll develop their own games slower or faster under this increased pressure. It will be up to the rest of the new leadership group to support them on field when this happens. It's not something we're famous for recently - but maybe Jamar, Clark and Frawley can help
  7. I feel a little nervous for the Jacks as captains. As early as NAB Cup Round 1 they're going to run into Jonathan Brown and Gary Ablett in the corresponding roles. I agree we don't have an alternative like them unfortunately. It's going to be a rough initiation for them this year, particularly when the team inevitably struggles against some of the better sides. They'll need plenty of support. In the infamous Luke Power "Scully needs to get his body right" interview on SEN he also said that the Lions used to give the Cats plenty of [censored] when the Lions were at the top and the Cats on the rise and that turned around in a big way in recent years. We can hope for the same, but I think there's no doubt the Jacks will be copping it hard this year. "Call yourself captain? That's a Captain"
  8. Doesn't have to be perfect Rogue - it won't be. It just has to be better. Newsworthy "Gawn does knee", "Sylvia crashes car" or "Watts wins Brownlow" threads should start on the main board and continue there for a period but then thay can be merged back into the Locker Room thread at some point. Match threads will contain player discussion that belongs in them, it's certainly a grey area when this warrants being moved to the Locker Room.
  9. Capital idea but I'm on crap mobile browser and on mod L plates Perhaps you can help me out this time?
  10. I recall someone posted last year, with some authority that Neeld had 4 players inked in for key roles and that Bartram was one of them, I seem to recall maybe Chip and Grimes were others - not sure if anyone (or the poster) can recall the post but it seems on the money. I think #3 needs to figure in the best 21s.
  11. it's bold! it's not a big leap to expect similar big changes in selection
  12. Yes it may be announced internally to the playing group for structural reasons and that may outweigh the clash of media announcements.

    AGM

I couldn't agree with you more - the AGM is not the time or place to air the dirty linen unless the situation is dire, and it seems we've made significant progress to rectify some problems. But is everything fine now? Was the whole problem Dean Bailey all along and that's fixed now? Was Cameron Schwab saying this but no-one realised he was right until 186 and then everyone changed their mind and Cam's back as part of the furniture now? Did Don McLardy's interview of senior players in the week leading up to 186 have any impact on the outcome? These are the kind of points I imagined you had in mind when you quoted we need to understand the past to avoid repeating it. Maybe the club has addressed these questions internally - I hope that that bed's not too hard, that porridge is not too hot. I guess we just have to trust ...

Maybe not today but you'd have Caro, Denim and Lace and whoever is Mike's aspirant replacement all over it like a that horrible rash you got on the Christmas holidays in the ensuing weeks - and just as hard to get rid of.

    AGM

With the saturation media covering AFL I can see how it's very counter-productive to have a transparent post-mortem at the AGM - I guess Stephen Mayne doesn't barrack for the Demons? I can also appreciate the concern that 186 has not been properly explained.
  19. Well that sounds even better - as I said I hate democracy. I'm not getting press ganged into that Navy! I'll just moderate my own Frankenstein's monster ship thanks - it'll quite likely have the worst excesses in there anyway "Morton this ...", "Davey that..." "Green the other .." Surely the worst thing about moderating is having to read every post in a thread - YUK!!!
  20. Maybe the mods can convert this to a Poll before someone gets hurt ... I reckon the "for" case should require a substantial majority to get up - size tba by Jack etc. Yes I'll volunteer to moderate the Locker Room board if it does get up
  21. Saturday, Mar 3 Aurora Stadium Hawthorn vs. GWS Giants 3.40pm Fox Footy This looks like an R18+ classification to me - I just don't see Clarkson or the Hawks taking any prisoners.
