  1. Nathan Jones said his nickname is Cannonball and that he bench-presses the heaviest at the club. I get the distinct impression he isn't going to die wondering - he's worked hard for his chance and he's going to make the most of it. I doubt he thinks he's "made it" now, unfortunately some players appear to.
  2. Opposition supporters doing the reverse exercise would have as at 1-11 I think. We'll start favourite against Brisbane because it's at the MCG, Richmond will fancy their chances against us in R3 with us off the back of the trip to Perth and a likely solid defeat. Depending on how the clubs are travelling we may start about even with the Dogs and Dons. I gave us the benefit in all these games and got 4 wins but I can easily see a scenario where it's 2.or less wins
  3. I'll go for 3-8 0-11 is as likely as 6-5. I actually voted 4-7
  4. There's already an 18 page thread high on the front page

  7. That's just not right - he's very annoying but he can play.
  8. It's hard to believe this has to be explained but ... PPs come before the first round. In 2007 Carlton finished 15th and Richmond finished 16th and last. Carlton won less than 5 games 2 years in a row so qualified for the PP before the 1st round. So the pick order was" 1 - PP - Carlton - Kruezer 2 - 16th - Richmond - Cotchin 3 - 15th - Carlton traded to West Coast in the Judd deal - Masten 4 - 14 th - Melbourne - Morton Richmond qualified for a PP at the start of the 2nd round - pick 18 - Rance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_AFL_Draft
  9. It was possible to activate picks awarded last year immediately after they were awarded - there's a recent post on the site explaining this. http://demonland.com...post__p__525396 Anyway picks can be traded even if they're not activated. I think JT is right, the use delayed to the end of the 1st round only applied to 2011 when GWS had their special draft picks (and 2010 for GC). If Hurley went to GWS on $1M/year Essendon would get Tier 1 compo and be able to use it in 2012.
  10. It's a travesty of justice for Port Adelaide - they've been royally shafted if they win less than 5 this year. The AFL should have kept it as-is for one more year.
  11. As long as the Scully discussion stays in this thread and stays (reasonably) nice there's no problems with it continuing IMO.
  12. Any Victorian club that finished below us except for Essendon (whose 1st rounder will be tied up in F/S for Daniher) can out bid one compo pick. If Hurley goes to GWS, then factor Essendon back in. It's critical to sell Gaff on MFC.
  13. "The financial opportunity associated with GWS enabled me to secure the future for my family. AFL can be unpredictable - my own struggles with injury last year and the experience of team-mates like Daniel Bell has brought this home to me Loyalty in football is very important to me but loyalty to family is paramount. I enjoyed my time at the Melbourne Football Club and will always be grateful to them for providing my opportunity in the AFL. I wish the club, supporters and my ex-team-mates all the best as they work hard to build a successful future. Now at GWS I see that there is a great opportunity to build something special and I will be doing my utmost to contribute to that, to re-pay the enormous faith the club has placed in me." - not Tom Scully
  14. If Gaff says he wants to come to Melbourne Football Club one compo pick should close the deal. If he says he wants to come back to a Victorian club it will take both picks.
  15. I think the compensation was unders for Scully and pick 1 in 2011 would have been fair but that was never going to happen after the Ablett compensation set the precedent and I was grateful we got the maximum available in the end. If it's unders for Scully then it's a bargain for Gaff - a proven pick 4. It can't be under for Scully and over for Gaff - that means what? It was just right for a pick 2 or 3?
  16. Is Scully worth 2 first round draft picks in what many are touting as the best draft since 2001? If not, then we got over-compensated by the AFL for him going to GWS? I post these questions because many here, perhaps even most, thought we got ripped off with 2 mid 1st round picks for a #1 pick with 2 years development. But apparently according to this thread we did the ripping off because the compo is worth more than a proven #4 pick (Gaff).
  17. Many disagree, gentlemen start your engines ...
  18. Do you think the 2 1st round compo picks were fair compensation for Tom Scully the #1 pick?
  19. Well if the Dogs finish below us they'll have an early 1st rounder and the Ward compo pick straight after it so that would trump us if they were prepared to use them - altho I agree we are in a good trading position with the Scully compo picks it's not unique. I agree with WJ's post (which you also agreed with) - the key step one is to convince him to come to MFC, thenin step two we have the firepower to make it happen. Essendon may convince him or Caddy to go there but unless Hurley goes to GWS it's hard to see how they could make it happen.
