My inkling is that we are giving our picks in the middle rounds back to GC and we don’t want to pick in the 60s and beyond too much because you have a 2 year commitment. Thats how your list becomes trash - too many flyers on speculative talents adds up if they keep missing. Getting a Steele for that pick makes that easier to manage. Even if it is for a year or two. No need to develop, no need to give a 3rd or a 4th year ‘to see if they are anything’ and you can concentrate on your more bona fide talents.

Personally, I think we are in need of some stock standard bonafide AFL players - Jiath is that. As ever, the price matters but I think he is a good talent and has confidence in his ability at this level.

I don’t think we will have the picks to want to rookie Woey. Next year is a huge inflection point - 20 players OOC and there are 5 no brainers for an extension - the rest have question marks. We can’t go that young that quickly.

The looming problem is next season. End of year we will have 20 OOC at this stage. 15 on the PL if Woey gets a year. 13 of those 20 have question marks about either injuries, talent, or possible retirement…

Well there is a gap in the backline… Actually there are a few gaps let’s be honest. I think we are unlikely to have the picks to push him out at this stage.
