  1. Yes, and plenty will say ‘boy wowee, how did Petracca get that much space?! I not gonna boo him now - coz he got that space you see! Oh and look at where Chandler/Woey/INSERT is?! You lost mate? You lost are you?! Come up here with me mate! Forwards play in the FORWARD line mate! Ur hopeless m8!’
  2. ANB was doing this ‘defensive minded flair suck’ in 2021… There’s nuance here; we can be less robotic with ball movement (although I’d argue it’s further up the ground where the robots live), but we can also value a similar type of role that ANB employed.
  3. This role is not really a ‘gameplan’ thing - it’s not like we are going to play 6 forwards inside the 50. There is going to some measure of ‘box-to-box’ play from a forward. Same with the work to release Petracca. These are near-universal tactics - work up the ground, and make sure you help your best players. ANB doesn’t have a monopoly on this role in the AFL and we should be able to have someone replicate his output and impact.
  4. I think that the ‘accounting’ side, and the ‘real FY payment’ side, and the ‘amorphous AFL rules that will be reversed in 2 years time’ are confusing the issue here.
  5. That must be the plan for 2025. Allows JVR to only go into the ruck should they want him to get involved up there. I do feel for ‘The Petty Forward Clinic Experiment’ but we have to move on, we can wait for him to get out of rehab. You won’t find this type of writing anywhere else people…
  6. Slightly misleading (or more than that) with Angus’ payout having to be written off this FY. It would be about a fifth of the $3.1m this year? Keeping us in the black in real terms.
  7. He does look like a little lion man
  8. Chandler would be ideal as he is a better forward than ANB and that was my only issue with ANB in his incredibly important role. Then Langdon to do it and slide up Bowey or the new kid. One point to reiterate - the role includes having to release CP5 (mainly) to drift forward through blocking in contests and following his opponent into the backline so discipline and footy smarts will be crucial.
  9. Yeeeaaaahhhh. Best to just leave it for a bit.
  10. Yes, counter factuals are just tiresome to debate but if the MFC could have brought in two top 15 talents like Essendon ‘could’ have, had they not done that trade - this place would be abominable. Just insufferable.
  11. Yes, and also KPF is one of the most transferable roles from the state leagues to AFL. The speed of the game is less of an issue as forwards can dictate how they engage in contests and the defender is impacted by their movement as opposed to the other way around. Fitness is also something that has less of an effect than an on ball or box-to-box role, or a defensive role against someone who ‘will work someone over’.
  12. I think the latter is more prominent but also this allows a discussion around Petty as an amazing swing man or to just send him back.
  13. I think we are done, R&BF. Thanks for the insight from the Bees coach
  14. The senior coach doesn’t camp outside someone’s house if they are destined for a role befitting a 32 year old journeyman. The FD saw a glaring hole with mature age forwards with aggressiveness and natural forward ability (who can also pinch hit in the ruck) and wanted him enough to have the press release teed up (the initial release had him at pick ‘X’ and to have the coach do a nice little thing for social media.
  15. Your lack of respect for this mature age VFL player belies your over confidence with players that haven’t even performed as well as Johnson at VFL level (aside from JVR). I think Johnson will play early, I think he will take the heat off JVR to back up ruck all the time and I think he will be effective.
  16. Makes sense if they don’t rate some of those forwards…
  17. I am going to give the club more credit than that. He is obviously depth - no one picked at ND68 is anything else, but none of our forwards have lit up their names - he is a mature age forward who should back himself to compete for a spot. If he is a natural forward with good movement then he is immediately ahead of any other tall forward on our list.
  18. Well I’m sold
  19. We weren’t even able to make a mistake with Mac. But given half the chance we would have found a way
  20. Well, I don’t know how to riak to this
  21. You want to put him in the ruck Are we just allergic to nice things and good decisions? If given the choice? JVR can do it.
  22. We can hire a running coach then.
  23. Looks great and will be a salve for those that worry for CO13 and CP5.
