Assuming we keep 5 & 9, who are you picking?
I would reach for him. Langford, Allan and Hines are the ones that stand out to me of those that would be available. Smith looks bright too but the bigger bodies are not going anywhere the next 10 years. Footy is increasingly returning to what you can do out of a stoppage - powering out of it with strength at the front of the contest and competing 1:1 is how games will be decided.

I would get this bloke if available at 9. Can play back, can compete forward, can play through the middle, elite footy winning ability. Craft can come as he enters pro footy. Anyway, we will find out soon enough

He is so slight… hmm, have to remember that they build into their bodies. Looks like an elite kick but has to find a position on the field to compete to be in a position to kick the ball… We already have Bowey down back, the wings are taken, is he too small for midfield? can he play a forward role? I just don’t know man

Well, in that disaster scenario - we would have traded CO13 and CP5 for assets that could bolster that cohort. I am all for getting 2 mids but let’s not kid ourselves about the ease of which you can get Oliver and Petracca level talents.- List Analysis
2021 broke peoples brains. We were never as good as the QF, PF, and GF trailblaze. We also did well to finish 1st with a come back win over Geelong down there. We have the same core and have added to it in measurable ways. What we have lacked is a gameplan that allows our best players to get the ball in good positions to score goals. And what we didn’t have in 2024 is luck with injury and the still minds of a few aimless 20 something blokes. 2025 I have high hopes for - especially with Goodwin still there and with the quiet way he has about him, to get this group back to concentrating on footy. I don’t think we will win the flag - but I expect us to be tough to beat every week and potent as we coalesce around a positive game plan.- The AFL 2025 Fixture
The draw is fine. We were going to travel and play with red footys as soon as we tumbled. And boy did we tumble… And 3.20 Sunday is not ‘the bad old days’ - that slot is on C7 and leads into the news. The bad old days was 1.10 on Sunday when no one cared you were playing. My advice to fans in Melbourne - get to games, don’t boo Petracca, and if you’re upset about only 12 games at the G, you know how you can get more games at the G next year???- The AFL 2025 Fixture

Yes, I agree about the forward 'difference maker' - frankly we don't 'need' a big 195+cm forward. Don't get me wrong, they are great to have if you can get one of the 8 in the game... But failing that - can you get a player who can make on a lead, or is an amazing 1-1 marker, or has great goal sense AND might also be a great mid in or out. I am no draft watcher or expert but that is what I see with a couple of these taller mids - Langford, Hynes, et al - they look like a player that could play a role in the forward 50 and give a target and make life easier for JVR, Fritsch and Pickett.- Time to go Goody?

I understand AoB but as a lover of the English language (or any language) I shudder when an adjective is so utterly misplaced as the ‘crazy’ example above. It really abominable…- Welcome to Demonland: Pick 9
Crazy… Crazy not to take a gamble on the player we want that may or may not be there 6 picks later… It is crazy. so crazy- Max Flags New Young Leadership Group

If we believe the player we want is there. I just don’t think the risk to not getting who you want is worth ND26 or whatever it ends up being. Getting 15 and 16 is a different story but it is also a different strategy - we would usually be the team to get into the top 10 with a trade like that, not out of it.- Welcome to Demonland: Harvey Langford
- Forward line fix?
As I have said across a number of different threads since 2022 - it is less about ‘the big tall forward’ and more about how we have moved the ball in transition from the backline. We just have to continue to move in the bold and daring direction. There are variants but in today’s game of disciplined athletes executing team defence - moving it quickly and directly to players with decent forward craft is key. When they come back for pre-season training - Chaplin has to continue what McQualter reignited and push our best players out of their baser instincts; May demanding the ball and slowing down play, Gawn requesting dump footy and waiting for him to get into the forward 50, CP5 and CO13 running 5m and dumping it indiscriminately forward - run further and get it over the defensive setup or use forward handballs but our best players are so predictable it makes their dominance moot. So, yes, would love a dominant forward but they would be wasted until we fix these issues and get the ball moving.- The Harry Armstrong Thread
Getting out of the top 10 for a pick 29 or 30? We gave up ND28 and a whole lot more to get this effing pick. Just trust your judgement and get a quality kid in with 9 and be done with it.- Results of Club Reviews
