I'd take one of Ball, Joel McDonald or Jesse Smith - whoever is available in the PSD.
All capable players, and would actually make it worthwhile having the first pick in the PSD.
Be interested if the following injured players will be training:
Bruce
Green
Warnock
Meeson
Garland (I think he's in moon boot so no)
Woneamirri
Grimes
Strauss
Blease
Maric
Agree mate. I want us to select a half decent player in the PSD with AFL experience over an 18 year old that's been over looked in a crap national draft. (Jurrah was tattslotto and we shouldn't assume that will happen again)
Would be great to have an established player that wants to play for Melbourne. I hope that player is Luke Ball.
What's that old phrase - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
I am scarred by that Adelaide twilight game when he missed goals from 10 mtrs out.
I actually think the trade period should be based on the Major League Baseball model, whereby trades can be made up until two months before the playoffs.
The trade period could open in early October and run through till round 15 of the next season. This would allow capable players like Matt Maguire to transfer to a club that would have actually given him a regular game in exchange for a player or a future draft pick. It would also allow clubs in a premiership window to trade for players from teams that are out of contention. In MLB it is quite common for a lowly club to trade away their ace for 3 prospects - win/win for both parties.
Port having picks 8 and 9 may help us, as they'll likely go for 2 mids or 1 mid and a KPP. Therefore one more KPP may be available for us come pick 11.
We need clubs between picks 3 and 10 to take as many mids as possible in order to give us more KPP options at pick 11.
The last time clubs invested in a bunch of list cloggers were Carlton in 2004 and St Kilda in 2001 and look how good that turned out for both parties
Raines, Staker, Buchanan and X Clarke are all list cloggers.
I know it's only a 1 liner, but the Age mentions that Melbourne have a possible interest in Everitt. We would have to trade for a pick as he's contracted - I think.
Anyone intrested?

The Ball impasse remains tied to the Andrejs Everitt situation at the Bulldogs. One scenario would see Ball get to Collingwood if the Pies could find a suitable draft pick for St Kilda to pass on to the Dogs for Everitt. Complicating that arrangement is uncertainty over the level of Melbourne's interest in Everitt.
Fisher on his day is a very handy forward. Good hands but not a great shot for goal. Would be good depth, but we probably don't need more fringe players - like you said.
Now that we have picks 1,2 and 11 (which are off limits) I reckon we should do the opposite. We should target players instead of draft picks.
Pick 18 should be on the table.
I reckon we should trade pick 18 if the deal is right. Andreas Everitt from the Dogs may net a pick 18 - be nice to secure him before the big clubs.
Whether McLean wanted out or he was pushed, it was nice we didn't cave into Carlton's demands.
The only reason I'm surprised he didn't make the top 50 is because Mike mentioned earlier about how stiff Davey was to miss the All Australian squad of 40.
I'd take him for a 4th rounder and throw in a list clogger (ie - Bell or Newton) as steak knives.
The guy has talent - loads of talent. We need a forward. He's too injury prone though.
