  1. Pies v tigers would probably be the number 1 requested game to watch at the moment given both clubs are at the top of their game at the moment. Kind of glad it’s not us against Collingwood rd 2. However it might still be GWS which would just be as bad.
  2. He was so off the pace last year in his handful of games, because of injury. However, round 1 proved we have a very average forward line so his goal kicking nous will be required at some stage this year.
  3. Surprised the one against Adelaide in Alice last year didn’t feature. Missed the goal he should’ve got which then threw Weideman under the bus a minute later.
  4. Lyon for mine. I don't recall Lyon playing too many poor games and was extremely reliable. Neitz on the other hand was a bit of a barometer of our success. How often would we ask the question: "If Neitz is on today, we're a real chance". Lyon kicked back to back high 70's goals in 1994 and 1995. Imagine how many more goals he would've kicked had he been a permanent full forward.
  5. Given that most of the league are going to be as rusty as hell in round 2, and there is going to be extended benches, there may be a slight argument in favour of Bennell getting there for round 2 - If he really is tracking well. Play him on extremely limited minutes and hope his natural talent shows through.
  6. Solid start to the season holding Kennedy goalless with just 4 touches. Hopefully he, Lever and O Mac (yes O Mac) can form a rock solid defence this year.
  7. It should be Pert's number 1 goal to negotiate with the AFL to have next year's Queens Birthday and Anzac eve games as our home games next year or else seek compensation. So much of our revenue would be predicated on those two events. To miss out in 2020 because of COVID-19, and have Richmond and Collingwood enjoy the home gate spoils in 2019 and 2021 just can't happen in my book. As for Collingwood in round 2, it may be a great time to play them as they would have lost a lot of momentum from their excellent round 1 performance. On the other hand, we could be 0-2 and holding up the ladder if the Pies are serious and we continue on with GOODW-IN-EFFICIENT football as per 2019 and round 1 2020.
  8. Would the AFL schedule us to host Richmond and Collingwood in front of no crowds this year and make no money? Then next year Richmond and Collingwood host us for Anzac eve and QB day and they then get all the money. Pert can't allow this to happen if he's a half decent CEO.
  9. Eddie’s trying to get Melbourne V Collingwood to reopen the season for Queens-birthday.
  10. Schwarz at his best (1994 season) probably nudged Neitz at his best. Remember in 1994 the Ox kicked 9 goals in the final home and away game and then followed up with a dominant week 1 final against Carlton. That was the zenith of his career right then and there. However Neitz had the far better career, is an all time Demon legend and has to win this quarter final.
  11. As much as I'd love for it to happen due to us stinking it up in round 1, on what grounds should round 1 results be cancelled? They were official games as far as I'm concerned.
  12. I fear this one could be a very lop-sided quarter final in favour of Stynes who is an MFC legend. The Neitz V Schwarz QF on the other hand....
  13. We almost got Travis Colyer and David Myers over the line for pick 2. Adrian Dordoro wanted more.
  14. I'd take a flag but it would be bitterly disappointing if it were the only flag we win in our lifetime. Would be such a shame for the loyal MFC fans to not be there to celebrate. Does anyone honestly think we're capable this year?
  15. I actually really like that idea as we'd still host Collingwood and Richmond next year. However I hate the idea of copping WC again next year in round 1. Hopefully the AFL would have enough sense to schedule that game at night, as it was 32 degrees in round 1 this year - too hot. Richmond were the home team against Carlton in rd 1 this year.
  16. ^^^ Interesting theory. Was Waverley a bit of a bogey ground for us in the late 80's and early 90's? Did we not play as well there as we did at the G?
  17. Collingwood were going nowhere around round 8 of that season. They lost key tests to Essendon and Hawthorn in consecutive weeks to go 4-3. The following week they were trailing lowly Fitzroy at 3 qtr time only run them over in the last qtr. They then went on a long run of wins mostly beating poor to mediocre side before again failing last season tests to Essendon and Hawthorn. I subscribe to the theory that Collingwood and us were at about the same level and we could've beaten them in week 1 of the finals had Geelong hung to WC in rd 22. Collingwood lost plenty of games to the top sides while we couldn't get the job done consistently against the poor to average sides.
  18. Geez O'Dwyer had a bit to answer for during that era. First he snots a Carlton bloke in the 1988 prelim and we lose our number 1 ruck for the grand final. Secondly he knocks out our best player 2 days before a semi final that we should've won.
  19. 2004 Jeff White beats a regulation Stynes year.
  20. Molloy paid 20 games for the Dees between 1993-1996, and kicked 4 goals. Don't remember much about him other than he was small defender and I think he was a bit maligned with the fans.
  21. North actually went on a 9-2 run from round 10 that year and unfortunately we copped them right in the middle of that run, and Longmire and Carey would've been at the top of their game. But yes, to concede 200 point is unacceptable in anyone's language.
  22. Very disappointing that Geelong blew that lead against West Coast in rd 22 as we would've got the double chance. But as others have mentioned, we only had ourselves to blame as we lost to a bunch of ordinary (Geelong, St Kilda,) or downright horrible (Sydney) sides that year. We also only beat woeful sides by 2-3 goals at home against Brisbane and Fitzroy when we would've gone in as raging favorites. Sounds like we had a problem with complacency that year which was summed up perfectly by blowing it all against West Coast in the semi final in front of our fans.
  23. We also lost to Sydney in round 6 who were worse than woeful in the early 90’s.
  24. Does anyone have any re-collections of the Geelong V West Coast game rd 22 game that year? Geelong lead for most of the day by about 4 goals at 3 qtr time but couldn't hold on in the finish. Had Geelong hung on, we would've finished third, and played Collingwood at Waverley in week 1, whom we had a great recent finals record over. The last quarter of the Geelong V WCE game was a bit of a sliding doors moment for us, in terms of how far we could've gone in 1990.
  25. Haven’t watched this game in years but I’ll take your word for it. In that case I guess Powell could’ve kicked 6 in a prelim.
