WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
I would replace 40 with 30. With lower scores these days, less and less players are kicking 40 a season. Come round 8 and if he's kicked just 5 or 6 goals, he can hand the keys over to T Mac or M Brown. Should be having at least 3 shots at goal a game given he'll be getting the number 2 key defender, and kicking his 2.1 or 1.2 per week for a total of 33-35 goals for the season. He kicked 1.0 in the last 4 games of the year. That was unacceptable.

Mathew Egan leaves MFC
Is this a bitter blow for the club?

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
At the end of 2019 I would've been doing cart wheels at the thought of winning 1 final and bowing out in the semis. However, seeing a bog ordinary side such as St Kilda win a final over a side that went to sleep for 2 quarters suggests that winning one final isn't that great an achievement. He'll certainly survive if we make the finals, but I'd love to see us start beating the Richmond's, Geelongs, Brisbanes, Ports and West Coasts of the league - go 50/50 against those mobs and eventually make and lose a prelim in respectable fashion. l'd call that a successful season IMO.

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
Finals at the absolute bare minimum. However the club will have a big decision to make if we get pumped in week 1 finals and have a record of say 2-7 against the top 8 sides.

Good stats there. I'm surprised McKay only kicked 2 more goals than Weid, as I though McKay had a much better year than Weid. Hipwood is over-rated except for the game he kicked 5 against us in 5 minutes in 2019. Schache has been a poor selection pick 2. Himmelberg had a poor year by his standards but is a good player.

2020 Player Reviews: #12 Toby Bedford
I'm not an ANB fan (except for in 2018) but he did actually play pretty well in the last couple of games and kicked some ripper goals. I'm OK for him be on the list.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
As per the thread title, he's very much welcomed at the MFC.

It's most certainly still deliberating but he gets a resounding credit in the bank for picking Oliver in that same draft. At the moment JT overpaid but in fairness Weid isn't yet in his mid-late 20's which is the prime years of an AFL player. We can make the final judgement in a few years.

No. A top 10 key forward draft pick heading into his 6th season of footy should be assuming the number 1 key forward who attracts the opposition's premier defender, ie - Darcy Moore or Harris Andrews. And we as supporters should have complete confidence that a highly fancied top 10 KPF draft pick will absolutely thrive in that role by season 6. The fact that we got Ben Brown kind of sums up where the Weid is at the moment. A handy second or third KPF but, no where near ready to be "the man".

2020 Player Reviews: #4 James Harmes
The fact that a proven good and integral part of our side was playing suburban QLD scratch matches by the end of the season was an epic disappointment. Not sure who should cop the blame? Goodwin for playing him in a non preferred position or Harmes for not adapting.

2020 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May
Is the best full back in the league. Stops the premier oppostion forward and is a high possession gatherer and efficient. Moore - 13 touches a game Andrews - 10 touches a game May - 16 touches a game Probably lost All Australian because Gunstan and Lynch got a hold of him in the early rounds.

Looking for 1997 wins
Sadly we got flogged by the Pies in round 2 by 106 odd points and round 17 by about 9 goals. We didn't play a Queens birthday game that year. North played Freo at the G that day. We beat Collingwood by about 8 goals in the 1996 Queens Birthday, in another terrible mid-late 90's MFC season.

Looking for 1997 wins
Wow you're keen. 1997 was an absolute debacle of a year, after such a promising round 1 win over the reigning premiers in North Melbourne on opening night (who remembers the days when Carlton and Richmond didn't have a mortgage over the season opener?) Not sure if we were injury riddled or didn't have the talent but we were putrid that year and copped some awful floggings. Rare highlights of that year were beating Richmond on a Saturday night the week after Balme was sacked, stunning Carlton after a month of floggings and knocking Freo out of the finals in the last game. I would say 1997 was our second worst season of the post 1987 ERA behind 2013. Perhaps 2008 was ever so slightly better than 1997??

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
I agreed with the shortened season but I didn’t agree with the shortened games/quarters. The shortened games cheapened the product IMO.

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
Gil got an unprecedented amount of credit for getting a season competed but at the end of the day we were the only code in the world that shortened all of their games and minimised it’s product.

2020 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca
It was absolutely brilliant to be honest.

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
Don’t like it at all but until a vaccine rocks up, then you can’t really argue with this approach. Hope we play a low drawing team at the G in round 1, so most if not all fans can attend.

Is Leroy Jetta avilable?

2020 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca
I thought he was ok. Became a bit more involved.
-
2020 Player Reviews: #4 James Harmes
Had a poor season and he and Brayshaw were a victim of Petracca taking key midfield minutes away from those two. Doesn't play with any point of difference as a half back flanker and I can't see him being a heavily involved forward. He played his best 2 games of footy in the round 23 2018 GWS game and Geelong final the week after, and we all know what position he played in those games.

2020 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem
Actually had one of his better seasons and it was a big improvement on his 2019. As Deeoldfart mentioned above, he's a 7/10 player but I'm unsure if he can take his game to a higher level at half back flank. Needs to be utilised more around our forward 50 arc as some of his low dart shots at goals are a thing of beauty.

Another Season for Mitch Brown
Deserved a contract extension based on his last 2 games of the year but must be well done the pecking order of a game next year. If M Brown's getting a game next year, it probably means that T Mac's continuing to be a disaster, Weideman hasn't come on as yet or Ben Brown's injured.
-
Jackson Extends Until 2022
Hopefully the short extension is Jackson and his manager backing him in for a big pay day after a very good 2021 season rather than Jackson keeping one eye on his home state. Very good news that he's got a contract beyond 2021.

2020 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever
A finish outside the top 10 is disappointing for a high priced acquisition such as Lever. Had good moments within games rather than overall great games. One of his excellent attributes are his reading of the play and he took some crucial intercept marks in the dying minutes of our close wins such as Carlton and Essendon. I'm not sure if you can teach that or if it's a natural ability but it's great attribute to have and one that will ensure Lever will be solid member of our best 22 next year.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
His papers were stamped in one of the Cairns games when they had to send him to full forward just to stay out of everyone’s way. Still, all credit to him for his 2018 season. He and Frost were our 2 key defenders during Melbourne’s best month of football since the year 2000.
