  1. Good signing. His disposal is far from elite but he’s one of the best players in the league in knowing where to position himself to take the intercept mark. He’ll be important this year in the dying minutes of close games.
  2. Excactly, but this is just me raising the idea. For all we know this idea hasn't been raised by the AFL. I've got no issue with Essendon wanting to play their game at the MCG to maximise crowds, but it shouldn't be at the expense of an already fixtured game on the same day.
  3. He looks half OK in those highlights.
  4. That's the thing, there isn't a broadcaster issue if they agree to switch the GWS V St Kilda game to Saturday night. Both games are on channel 7 which works out fine. The only thing is GWS and St Kilda would have to agree to playing the game on Sat night rather than Sunday. When it's all said and done, I don't think the AFL will agree to do this and chuck it into the "too hard" basket.
  5. I rang Whately this morning and made a suggestion similar to Dr Gonzo's yesterday. 1) Move GWS V St Kilda to Saturday night 7:25pm 2) Move Essendon V Hawthorn to Sunday 3:20pm Everyone's a winner: Essendon and Hawthorn get their MCG wish GWS and St Kilda get some Saturday night exposure Channel 7 don't miss out as both games are on channel 7 regardless Melbourne keep their MCG game as is, and Freo get their one and only MCG game for the year. Whately called the idea "pragmatic."
  6. Is it just me or is there a serious lack of post match coverage and reports following the game on the official MFC website? No official match review, stats, interview from players, coaches review etc....
  7. That could actually work really well. GWS V St Kilda has the potential to be a good Saturday night replacement on Ch 7, plus channel 7 would still retain the Dons game on the 3:20 Sunday game.
  8. My thoughts. They haven’t had an MCG double header since 1986. Can’t see it happening this year.
  9. Essendon have officially requested their round 1 game to be transferred to the MCG. Three outcomes if the AFL approves (which they never have in the past) 1) Our game remains as is. The Essendon V Hawks game is moved to Sunday. 2) our game gets moved to Sunday afternoon but remains at the G 3) Our game gets transfereed to Marvel for a 1:45pm Saturday game
  10. Oliver - 27.56 possessions per game/ .29 goals per game Judd - 20.7 possessions per game / 1.02 goal per game Dangerfiled - 19.18 / 1.15 Martin - 22.91 / 1.08 Fyfe - 24.62 / 0.84 Cripps - 26.23 / 0.47 Bontempelli - 22.04 / 0.96
  11. I'd say about a combined 5,000 odd MFC and AFL members will be able to attend at a rough guess. The remaining 23,000 - 24,000 will be St Kilda members. The last time we played St Kilda at Marvel we got 22,000 on a Saturday night (admittedly both sides were very poor that year)
  12. For a bloke that had an interrupted pre season, it didn't appear to affect him yesterday as he was in our best 2 players. As others have mentioned his marking was top notch yesterday. To take the next step, he needs to increase his average season of goal tally of 6 to be in the same conversation as Bontempelli, Danger, Fyfe, Martin etc... When Gawn, Oliver, and Petracca are all firing on the one afternoon like they did yesterday, we're probably winning a game of footy against pretty much anyone.
  13. Yeah I called the AFL membership department and they certainly gave the impression that it’s all in, and that if you want priority to see your team, get a club membership. Kind of makes you wonder why they ask you to nominate a team in the first place. In the Anzac eve and QBday games I hope it’s first in first served rather than a ballot where you have no idea if it’s rigged.
  14. Be pretty damn annoye I'll be damn annoyed if McGowan ends up high jacking the season. Make Freo quarantine at home for X amount of days but let them out for training. Anyone that transgresses gets a 6 week suspension and/or a $20,000 fine. Simples.
  15. Yeah to be brutally honest our record at Marvel is miles better than the MCG in recent years and we play the venue so much better. I just didn't want to upset the MCG loving fans who hate attending Marvel.
  16. Out of interest, are you able to advise which individuals are campaigning this? The AFL will no doubt be re-shuffling fixtures at one stage or another so it would seem a bit unnecessary to make a change that is not impacted by COVID and border issues. I would like to think the club would vigorously oppose the suggestion.
  17. That's a shame. Sounds like he isn't the answer to fill in for BBB/Weid.
  18. Be disappointing if that's the case, particularly if some MFC members miss out, but at 27K it should be ok. From a footy perspective, I don't think we play Marvel that much worse than the G to be honest. I can't see it happening though. Would be a big call to move a home teams game elsewhere.
  19. Is Lockhart injured or did he play in the magoos? I would like to see him in the side next week. One of our major weaknesses last year was the opposition's small forward having a major influence on the game, particularly in losses. Last year Walters kicked 3 in a 3 goal win over us, and Wallis kicked 4 in a 4 goal win against us. Today Castagna dominated the second quarter. Not sure if the trio of Jetta, Rivers and Hunt are the answer? Hopefully they are.
  20. Pretty positive performance overall. Oliver was clear BOG and Gawn had some dominant moments. Petracca faded in and out of the game but did some nice things. Lever was outstanding and took a bunch of marks today. We'll just have to live with his 1 or 2 errors a game. May had a great duel with Lynch and kept him to either 0 or 1 goal. T Mac had a very lively first quarter and took some contested marks high up the ground. Went quiet after quarter time but did a nail a nice set shot in the last qtr. Fritsch kicked 3, 2 from close range. He's a chance to nail 40 this year if he plays all games. He'd be a hard match up to keep quiet all day. Chandler was my surprise of the day and he and Spargo provided excellent forward pressure which is one of the keys to success in this league. Will both play round 1 if Kozzie isn't ready. We dominated the clearances in the midfield late in the game as Richmond played their kids in the centre. Won't have that luxury in the real stuff. Other than that, most players today showed some positive signs in a pleasing first hit out. Hopefully we can put in a solid performance next week against the Dogs and then head into round 1 in good shape.
  21. Chandler back on and just kicked a corker of a goal near the boundary. He’s been the big story of the day IMO. 74-61 but Richmond lining up for a goal.
  22. Melb 10.8.68 Richmond 9.7.61 3 qtr time.
  23. Disappointing about Chandler's injury. He was looking lively today. We're exactly spoilt for small forward options like Richmond are.
  24. Excellent team goal results in Chandler’s second. 68-48 lead
