Not a snowflakes chance in hell is McGowan going to let the average punter into WA for the GF if we have community case of transmission after August 28. Even if they’re fully vaccinated. And this is precisely why the grand final should be in Adelaide rather than Perth - less onerous border rules but still able to have roughly the same crowd at an equally excellent venue.

I absolutely holdout hope it won't be in WA despite the fact that it probably will be. Fantastic for a tiny portion of our membership base but the absolute pits for the majority that would do anything to get over for a once in a lifetime opportunity but simply can't. If Victoria maintains its medium risk status as late as 14 days prior to the grand final I don't think anyone can enter WA unless under limited circumstances. I don't think travelling over for a footy game qualifies. No chance people can fly over under any circumstance My understanding is that if VIC is downgraded to low risk prior to 11 September (14 days prior to GF), then anyone can fly over but must quarantine for 14 days. They would then be able to attend the GF. If VIC is downgraded to low risk after 11 September and within 14 days of the grand final, then people can fly over but would have to quarantine for 14 days and would miss the GF If VIC is downgraded to very low risk before the GF then anyone can fly over without quarantining. I could be wrong but that's my understanding per below. https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/covid-communications/covid-19-coronavirus-controlled-border#mr

Not sure if todays numbers are more a positive or a negative. 20 new cases (negative) 70% fully quarantined (positive) which is a sharp rise from yesterday's 25%.

When you put it like that, a part of me is happy to wait until next year assuming we’re in a multiple year window. Such a multitude of traditional and special events that us die hards could miss out on this year after waiting all these years. If Melbourne actually doesn’t go into another lockdown prior to GF week I’d hope the AFL and state governments can do all they can to allow VICs to travel over to whatever state the grand final is.

I’d be surprised if the AFL didn’t book out the Joondalup resort for a month.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The combo of the red hair and the #17 takes me back to the Halcion days of 2011 and 2012 watching Sam Blease light up the MCG. If Bowey can be half as good as... Nar forgot that, he overtook Blease by quarter time of his debut. -

He shouldn’t remind me of Sam Blease, but he does. Couldn’t be more impressed with his first 2 career games. Has an amazing amount of composure and he’ll learn from the HTb call in the last qtr. -
I'm a believer that if you throw a bunch of darts on the board, eventually you'll hit the target. Hence I think Port are well overdue to beat a top 4 side in the Dogs, and I see that game as a 50/50.
-
Typical. While us Melburnians can't attend a game to save ourselves, the locals will be able to attend the Geelong V Melbourne game.
-
I was totally against winning a flag by default but with all the COVID uncertainty and the fact that 99% of our membership base probably won't see a final live this year, I now say bring that idea on.
-
Yeah I was taking the micky a little with labeling last night a 'disastrous win" But you'd have to agree it would be a bit of a top 4 booby prize if we copped Port over there in week 1.
-
Last night could be a disastrous win: If we beat Adelaide but lose to Geelong if Port win their last 2 games, Dogs beat Hawthorn but lose to Port Geelong beat St Kilda and us. Means we finish 3rd and play Port in Adelaide. Would mean yet another flight and date in hostile territory.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
3rd win since 2010 against WC. Monday night record: 1998 - win v Sydney (MCG) 2000 - win v Brisbane (Docklands) 2021 - win V West Coast (Optus) any other Monday night games we’ve played? -
GAMEDAY: Rd 21 v West Coast

Any chance of a 1996 “Waverley park lights out affair” where we come back in 3 days time and play the last little bit? -

The whipping boys in Harmes and ANB should feature in the votes. -

Any chance we can finish with more goals than behinds? Hasn’t happened since the Brisbane win. Oh and Melksham stays. I can’t think of anyone at the club that would’ve snapped that goal deep in the pocket on the wrong side for most players. -

I think BBB may have just edged out Weideman for a game. (not sure why the commentators have been debating this throughout the night) -

Geez we have a woeful record against West Coast. 2 wins in 12 years or thereabouts. -

That would be a really poor result if we win tonight but end up finishing 3rd and face Port over there. Hopefully the Dogs beat Port in round 23. Sounds like T Mac’s out. -
Indeed we will.

There might be a small crowd allowed for Geelong V Melbourne given that regional VIC will be 12 days out of lockdown, but as I mentioned earlier they prefer to wait two full weekends after lockdown.
-
Firstly, it will be a miracle if the GF is at the MCG. We'll have to come out of lock down ASAP and no crowds will be allowed for the first 2 weekends after lockdown. And then hope for literally no further community transmission through late August and into September. Secondly, you'd imagine a few guaranteed GF MFC members would miss out. You'd have something like: 15,000 Competing clubs 9,000 AFL members 11,000 MCC members 1,750 non competing clubs 2,500 Medallion Clubs 11,000 Corporates

Was that the incident which M Long copped a draconian penalty of a 4 week suspension - that had to be served in the entire 2001 Ansett Cup? Remarkably he was eligible to play in round 1 2001 and actually played in round 2 2001 Vs Port at Docklands. -
Yeah, I was kidding myself as I posted. No chance we're out of lockdown until Thu 19 Aug. No crowds for 2 weekends after (round 23 and bye week) would have a crowd by qual final weekend at the absolute earliest, but probably more likely semi final weekend after the constant outbreaks we've had.
