Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Interestingly, Trac has had more contested possessions and tackles than his same number of games last year. He might be shirking pack marks but inside CBA hes shirking no contest. He's also still a top 30 player rating and top 20 score involvements player for a bottom 4 team. His stats are actually very similar to last year to when we were flying except we arent winning games and his clanger rate is materially higher. (Correlated). A large reason we won the 2021 finals so emphatically is he went into God mode with his disposals for a month. We need that back desperately.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
I think its poor take from Hird and focussing on a weakness that really isnt there. We get more than enough clean entries, the whole issue is knowing what to do with them. Focussing on 'shape' is a rabbit hole that leads nowhere. (Even in that clip, we get a clean exit) Langford and Lindsay will be good. Please no to Windsor. Zero left foot, below average handball, doesnt win contested ball and for a guy that gets majority of his possesions uncontested his disposal is below average. This notion he is a good ball user simply doesnt show up in the stats or the eye. Like a golfer that has a good swing, can hit a huge drive but no consistent iron or short game....

Blake Howes Re-Signs Until 2027
Sticking the boot into a 20 gamer who took 7 marks, laid 6 tackles. 15 touches and had maybe one or two kicked on him is what this forum is all about! I remember Turner getting the same treatment. That aged well.

Sorry. If it happens for one week he cannot be blamed. If it happens for 45 games..... its not you its me.

PREGAME: Rd 1 6 vs Gold Coast
On repeat. In outs who cares. Not like it makes a difference until you make real change. One of Turner or May forward. Lindsay or Chandler in the guts. Viney dropped, there needs to be a statement otherwise if theres no accountability it will just keep happening. And its obvious that it is. Essendon played the kids last night. Its a nice thought but if you subscribe to that ready to lose by 10 goals and lose supporters and crowds.

He has too many apologists inside and outside the club. No one has stood up and said no mate youre getting this horribly wrong. I was always in the Goodwin is the right guy, but since 2023 he is the problem clear as day. Aside from the goal kicking players are doing what they are told i reckon.

POSTGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
Ive been negative on our mids kicking for many moons. But today wasn't about execution it was method. We refuse to lead at the ball carrier. That's 100 percent on Simon Goodwin. The players dont lead because of structure and instruction. Turner or May have to play forward and lead. It needs a major overhaul its so obvious.

Swapping Petty & Disco's Roles?
Last week Geelong beat the Suns. Go have a look at their 2 worst players on the day. Dangerfield and Cameron. With their best player out in Smith. Its unreal. Its not about depth, a quarter of their team are no names. Scott changes the pieces to fit the jigsaw. We keep trying to jam the piece in. Can you imagine even for a second if Scott was our coach he would be playing this set up week after week. Not a chance. Whos the starting cba 4 this week for them. No idea. Stanley holmes smith knevitt (WHO?!?) atkins. Last year conway bruhn parfit bowes clark. Stewart is the best intercepting rebounder in the game. In 2024 he put him in the midfield. I agree with your suggestions.

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
No. Its much better to try the same thing over and over and over again and hope it just works consistently.

Harrison Petty
Right now Peter is loaded and Paul is living homeless under a bridge I reckon.

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
He is 100 percent absolutely worth the money this decade. 2033 and 2034 is another story but I guess none of the football department really have to worry about that because they probably wont be here. The supporters will be tho.

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
Dont really care the ins and outs. Not like its made any real difference for the past 3 years why would it this week? Unless the FD department realise its time for real change. Send May to FF and Petty to full back. See how it looks. What have you lost if it doesnt pay off. Doing the same thing every week is just tiresome.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Name one forward that doesnt go in and out of games or even weeks. Its not a valid reason to not try something. We dont need someone to dominate. We need someone to just lead correctly and take a mark. In any case, we have 10 weeks to try something different. We cant keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. Im not big on jvr, but if he is to play, he cant be ruck. Give him a chance as a pure FF. Goodwin has to swallow some pride here and admit hes got things wrong.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
You said it yourself we dont need a star kpf, we just need at the least an average kpf. not going to know unless we give turner a try for real. Still only 23. Why do you think he cant be a competition average forward? Too small?

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Chandler could play more through the middle. He's gone up a level this year. We need to change our 6 6 6 set up forward of the ball. The amount of times Kosi or Trac or Oliver break free from a centre clearances and doesnt hit up (or even try) to hit up a leading target is on the coaches. What's the point of getting it out the front if you're going to bomb it anyway?? We're going to win 4 or 5 of these a games, have a plan. Have we had even one leading mark in 2 weeks with 100 forward 50 entries. Can barely think of one. Its appalling

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Turner is on our list. . Switch him and Petty or JVR for 2 months. I dont care if he's dominating down back. So would any gun forward. The kid can play, has dash and takes the game on. Also he can take a hanger. Right now we need a 14 disposal 6 mark 3 goal game way more than we need 8 intercepts in the backline. Tmac is an AFL level backman and him sitting watching is a total waste of resource.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
This would all be true if it was his natural positon. He played junior football as a defender and by his own admission is not a leading forward. The FD saw his contest work early and developed him as a forward under the guise of a different game plan. He is the wrong peg for this hole now. He simply is not quick enough reading the flight of the ball. Melksham gets to the drop of the ball time and time again. How often did jvr do this today? Its not why we lost ofc

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Similar to pressure. 2 out 3 weeks its relevant but then you get games like north and essendon when we won that stat comfortably and lost the game comfortably. Its def still important but the stats say you'd sacrifice a tackle for a mark inside 50 all day long. Fwiw we are the best in the comp for this stat head to head . (Average difference)

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Not going to disagree with the basic premise that pressure is important but if you want a deep dive... First 7 games of the years, yes pressure wins (losses) were correlated with results. However, against wc, hawks, brisbane and sydney (tie) the results were actually inversely correlated with pressure. No question if you have a significant drop off you leave yourself very open to be scored. But if its 50/50 which a lot games are its actually only mildly significant based on our results. (Lets call it a 66 percent hit rate) As a comparison, some old fashion metrics, inside 50s and marks inside 50s. For us inside 50s we have only lost the inside 50s twice all year (hawks and gc). Inside 50s mean nothing for us sadly. Marks inside 50, we have won 5 times resulting in 4 wins. Lost 7 times for 6 losses So 10 out 12 games 'hit' rate. No doubt one can argue pressure will help win the marks inside 50. Imo our real deficiency relative to the rest of the comp is catching the darn thing near goal and putting it thru the middle. Anyway those are the numbers.

Time to go Goody?
If we wanted to think outside the box, Stevem May should have been thrown forward years ago. Yes, I know hes an all Australian full back. Mcintosh, Gehrig, Neitz, Pavlich. We have have substandard forward talent and no genuine contested marking kpf players for 6 years since JH (BB was def above average and it was enough). Hindsight is everything but i do wonder if May had been thrown forward at times in 22 and 23 (and succeeded) would we have developed our back line differently and had greater 'forward connection' After Max he was and is by far our best contested mark. Drafted as a forward. Can think of more than a few games that would have been handy. Would have it been net negative or positive. Dunno. Wish I did though.

Time to go Goody?
Our current actual score v expected score of -7.1 per week is the worst in the league since 2020 (at least) Its not common to have anything more or less than a goal a game difference over the long run and honestly its more mean reverting than anything else. Sydney, gws and carlton were all over a goal above expected score last year and are currently in the 'where are they now' category. Some years you're the bug, some years you're the windshield. Having said that, Adelaide have consistently been top 6 iin recent years with some guns up forward. It would surprise a few people that our scores v our expected score actually has been positive for the past 3 years. The problem of course is the days and nights when it really counted.

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
If we can contain the Pies matchwinners, Daicos, Daicos, Elliot, Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Micohek, Hill, Crisp amd maybe one or two others we are every chance this week! This goes a few ways. We clog things up, slow it down and keep it 'manageable' or we roll the dice and meet them head on which would either see an unlikely season defining victory/humilating 12-15 goal loss. Pick your poison.

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Its totally evident he has a big problem coughing the ball up in traffic. As Buckley would say, he cant solve the small circle. So the instruction must be if you get the ball, use your dash, use run, get into space, break a line. How many times did he find space today. I cant recall many. He is a limited player, but not every player has all the assets, its up to the FD to use the player correctly if you are going to pick him.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Good- 30 shots at goal ( aj and kosi not scoring from 25 metres is so amateurish btw). The game plan is generating scoring chances. Turner. Bad - Lever if he's not intercepting is a bit lost one on one, but we already knew this. Hardly cost us the game tho. More importantly, because we press up, our game plan falls apart a bit (goals out the back) when we either fail to bring the pressure or the opposition are pin point with their kicks. Both happened today, and allowing WM to get so many kicks is just unnecessarily rolling the dice. Sacrifice some structure to take away the one real weapon they have. Dumb coaching if not arrogant imo. Ugly. I know he's a DL favourite but 16 disposals and team high clangers from Oliver is not great but the dump kicks in q4 should see him dropped. Yes, dropped. If you want learnings and you want to set standards then senior players who are being paid 1mln a year need to have some repercussions for blindly not following team instructions game after game year after year. As soon as he feels rushed for time he blindly hacks. Its not good enough.

NON-MFC: Round 12
Nor surprised. Cox is the worst coach in the league. He has taken a gf team to bottom four more or less with no game plan other than ' try and go thru the corridor' . Swans had just 26 less possessions for 25 less inside 50s. Total lack of system.
