  1. I found it a confused analysis. Said we were light on in the youth department but then went on to give a glowing review of almost every single one of our young fellas.
  2. I would like to see @WERRIDEE’s projected starting lineup for Rd 1, 2021 following this development
  3. I think the approach is right. We missed out on finals by a bees and we still have a youngish list. I think people get seduced by StK’s trading success last yr but 99% of the time blokes you trade in by exchanging a 3rd round pick don’t become all Australian. Phillips isn’t going to turn us into a instant-contender so we all just need to calm the farm on the desperate need to bring in a winger. whilst I think the approach is right I’m not confident we will be successful - that is a coaching issue for mine though, not a player personnel issue
  4. Nothing more disappointing than when you’ve been offline all day then check in on Demonland to see what has transpired in Day 1 of the trade period and the top topic is ‘Hore & Spargo ink new deals’
  5. Always get confused about which one is josh Thomas and which one is Tom Philips. Too many Toms
  6. If Geelong snare he & Cameron in free agency it is a bit of a kick in the guts to teams who struggle year in, year out to make the finals. This year they snag the best FAs in market for free and then next year (if they go well) they’ll lose players to clubs (who overpay to lure them) which triggers compensation back to Geelong. It is the cycle that has kept Geelong Hawthorn (and soon Richmond ) strong for unnaturally long periods of time. One simple fix could help this; have a 3 year rolling period on FA compensation - so, if Geelong lose players to FA next year the FAs they picked up this year would impact their compensation equation
  7. Wouldn’t surprise me if Collingwood has sounded out Melbourne on Treloar with Oliver in their sights e.g. Treloar + 1st rounder + cover a large chunk of Treloar’s contract for Clayton. They cover a deficiency in their midfield that way and then clear future space in our cap to fit in Brown.
  8. Disposal quality and injury are the biggest red flags. There is a reason why Collingwood are putting him on the front lawn.
  9. Kane Cornes thinks he is a good fit for us. Which probably suggests he is not a good fit for us.
  10. I think the game might have passed Lin Jong. Had potential (and was deceptively tall) but injuries at bad times didn’t help him. He was someone that needed the development to realise raw talent and he just didn’t get it.
  11. I’m new-ish. Definitely a few posters who don’t make you feel particularly welcome but on the whole most people were pretty good to be honest.
  12. Jordan Lewis just said on SEN He had reached out to Isaac Smith to see if he wanted any counsel on the decision and he never heard back from him! lol. I would’ve thought if he was as close to selecting Dees as we’re made to believe you’d reach out to an old teammate who spent time at the club... he also said he understands that whilst the Hawthorn offer is 2 years the trigger for a 3rd is pretty easy.
  13. Excellent drop
  14. Plays as a medium marking forward. Doesn’t pressure opposition when he doesn’t have the ball, doesn’t offer much when the ball is on the deck.
  15. I am struggling to name one small That can play forward with reliable talent. Kossie - perhaps - but that is still potential, think he only kicked one genuine roving goal last year (FWIW I think his long term is in the middle ala Sonny Walters). You get Brown to clunk it (not to bring the ball to ground) and, as you say, send them through the middle from wherever he is.
  16. I think most here assume it won’t happen largely because he is contracted and Melbourne’s demands would be ridiculously high (if they aren’t I would riot) but he is clearly somewhere on the scale of ‘disgruntled’ and ‘requesting a trade’. All I am saying is typically when they’re closer to the ‘disgruntled’ end of the scale there is a puff piece from the club saying ‘he was disappointed but is fired up for a preseason with the boiz’ (ala Merrett)... some vague comments weeks ago from journos doesn’t ease my fears he might be closer to the other end of the scale...
  17. Not suggesting you are wrong, I just haven’t seen his manager or the club rubbish the rumour. I have heard people say his manager and the club have rubbished the rumours, but no evidence they have actually done that. Regardless, nice touch by Merrett. He didn’t need to do that, but I think that strengthens rapport with supporters.
  18. Merrett came out publicly today and said he was staying, which will probably save about 5 million hours of collective sh*t talking between now and the draft. Would be nice if Clayton does the same.
  19. I saw a screenshot of a text exchange between him and a friend (can’t guarantee it was real) which suggested Melbourne told him he was no longer required. His tone was positive - suggested he loved the Dees just wasn’t meant to be for him
  20. If we are so good at marking inside 50 why are we prioritising a KPF then? It felt (I don’t have the stats to validate) sides were happy for us to ask for the ball wide and we therefore took lots of uncontested marks on the boundary between 25-50 out from goal. Hitting up a key forward in the slot is of huge value but is a much different game to hitting up an uncontested Fritta on the boundary.
  21. Not sure our midfield would know how to kick to a player on the lead.
  22. He is great value in the market without Neale (about $3). Menegola is the other one to watch tonight - I think he’ll lead Geel and is a smoky at huge odds.
  23. Also, have heard rumours that he has been ‘requested to stay in QLD’ for the vote. No confidence in the rumour but I’ll take any excitement I can get at the moment.
