Farewell Luke Jackson
Fire sale on their experienced players. They have to get Lobb off the list, Mundy’s OOC, Logue could go and many of the rest are quite young and on affordable contracts.

Can’t imagine Melk would be all that high (although he did well against Port). He did try to chase and apply pressure against the Dogs, but the wheels aren’t quite there anymore. Not sure we can have more than 1 or 2 in the forward line that are sub optimal pressure players. Eapecially when ANB does so much work further up the ground plugging gaps to give Petracca more opportunity to play offensively. Structurally we might need to drop one of Melk or a tall for Chandler or Bedford up front.

He also set up a couple of scoring opportunities, one which Max fluffed & the other which Melksham converted after a 50m penalty. Weid was far from the problem on Saturday.

I had some similar thoughts when trying to work out how we could get one of Bowey or Hunt back in against Freo. I’m concerned that their smaller types (Schulz, Walters, Frederick & Switkowski) could be too mobile for our backline as it’s currently selected. Maybe Jordon to the bench, Brayshaw to the wing allows us to defend the ground ball a bit better in D50. Harmes is the potentially the one to move out, he’s been down since the Brisbane game.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
To be announced in the lead in to the Freo game? That would be hilarious.

If we negotiate well, we could turn it into 2 or 3 good outcomes.

Who knows whether the prospect of getting traded to a strong Vic club might make one of the previously settled Vic kids put their hand up to return home?

Serong extended in 2020 till the end of next year. If he signalled an interest to come back to Vic, his existing contract is no barrier. Young’s deal expires at the end of ‘27 (basically till free agency).

1st rounder & Finn Callaghan? Unless we could get Flynn or Briggs as back up rucks, we wouldn’t be getting our kpf from the GWS list.

Jefferson looked to have some very nice traits, but would take time and want see how he goes with a bit less room to operate in. As far as ruck prospects go, Harry Barnett from SA could be one and we haven’t seen Matty Elliott’s boy (Will) yet, but he has some talent. Broadbent from WA has some nice traits (but if Jacko does go, will be gun shy on drafting a ruck from WA?). None are quite like Jacko, but Barnett looks very promising:

If Lobb is still looking to push for a trade, I wonder if GWS is still the preferred location (interesting to hear Dogs are linked). I’d struggle to see Jacko, Darcy, Taberner & Lobb all fit, so can see him moving on. Also struggle to see how Freo would satisfy Melb in trade, but maybe GWS could be linked in to the trade to get a fairer outcome (in any hypothetical trade scenario).

Ah yes, my mistake. My head went to the one more likely!

Will be an interesting watch next season as he makes his way back from ACL. Currently contracted till ‘24.

Carlton have Curnow, McKay & De Konig all out of contract next year, if we lose Jacko, I’d be trying very to shake one of those loose with that money. At that point we could offer the dollars and success. Carlton could be stretched with the dollars. McKay & Curnow will be RFAs.

2022 NAB AFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Reid was terrific all game, definitely one for next year and imagine he’ll go quite high. Def didn’t see 13 on the coverage, so think you’re right on no. 30. Was a good contest, think the quality in the top 30 this year will be quite good. Intriguing to see if Ashcroft nominates Brisbane under f/s, there’s a genuine contest for pick 1 between he, Wardlaw and Tsatas. Sheezel not too far behind based on his season so far and Philipou is jumping right up into the conversation (only flashes from him today).

Public school footy
A couple of public schools have created strong sports focused programs that have produced elite athletes, Maribyrnong College & Rowville Secondary College (Darren Bewick has been doing a lot work there and they had a few boys drafted last year) immediately spring to mind. Still, pathways through the private system are well established and the most commonly followed into the AFL system.

Freo are borderline for the eight this year, but are well placed to go places in the not too distant future. There’s a decent cluster of young talent on that list, so they aren’t without appeal for a talented West Australian looking to go home.

Robbos Top 50 2022
Was extremely stiff not to get All Aus guernsey. By the end of the final series it was clear which one of he & Bailey Dale was the more effective player under pressure.

Vale Shane Warne
His first wicket was R Shastri, caught in the outfield by DM Jones. He changed the game before our very eyes. We knew he was special and we were so, so lucky to see it. He’s been ever present for 30 years and it just doesn’t feel right that he’s gone, just like that. Vale Warney. Will never see his like again.
