WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Picks can move multiple times (I think one 4th rounder had four homes at some point last year), things to take into account are whether you have capacity to move picks in the first two rounds due to historical trades (we're fine here, I lose track of other clubs circumstances) and whether you theoretically have enough list spaces to accommodate the number of picks you are taking on. For example if we were bundling up 4 picks for WB's first rounder, but they only had three vacancies on the primary list, deal would be nixed by AFL. Obviously a different rule for players, who can only be traded once in a trade period. Edit. You also can't have a pick that you have traded out come back in as part of a separate deal.

Dawson the better kick (left footer). Hewitt a run with player who's been able to find the ball. Neat user without being top notch. He had back surgery this year, which is why he didn't play the full season.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
That's part of a segment on Trade Radio where they put the hypothetical deal up and ask which club would be more likely to say no. Pretty sure Cal Twomey said GWS would be more likely to say no. I reckon it's what we optimistically think we could get for Preuss. The actual deal may involve something else thrown into the mix to balance it out.

If we are looking at Macrae, we'd have to be looking at pick 10, any lower and you potentially miss. That said, there are likely to still be some good options to fill that need in that 10-15 range.

One of the problems with TMac is that he's lower priority and seems a 'in case our kpf plan A falls over' option for interested clubs. This means any deal will likely be a late deal, which doesn't give us much wiggle room in facilitating trades afterward.

I'd expect the deal to look something like 33 & 50 on to North for Brown. They probably baulked at a future 2nd, but now there is a extra '20 2nd for Dees to play with. Whichever 2nd rounder we retain can be bundled up with prospective Preuss pick to move up the order as well. It is interesting that Treloar isn't keen to meet with Dogs. His camp has said that they prefer to go to a contender in Victoria, maybe the additional rider is a contender, from Victoria, that also plays regularly at the 'G? From recollection that was a consideration when he'd narrowed his list to Richmond & the Pies when he left GWS.

Nudge bomb! Love it.

ANB has been linked to Crows a few weeks back, not sure who else might be a potential to head to Adelaide.

Farewell Sam Weideman
This might be one of the best things I've seen here @Ethan Tremblay!

Adam Treloar
And they are throwing Treloar out with the trash so they can get a deal together for JDG. If this is the juggling act they have to do to re-sign a preferred player, they can't work on any deals to get players in through the door. What a mess.

Rendell's got really good instincts as a recruiter/list manager and he called the Hogan to GWS move definitively last week. If he's saying that aloud, he won't be the only one drawing those conclusions. Would be negligent not to call and enquire if we reckon he could make our team better and come at a pretty heavy discount.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Pretty significant that GWS were able to secure a replacement for Cameron so quickly. Puts them in a better place for the trade period. Bit more awkward for Geelong.
-
TMac on the Trade Table?
McCartney sounded more interested in Hogan than T Mac when interviewed last week. T Mac sounded very much like an option if everything else fell over. Price for Hogan will be interesting. Potentially gone from being worth a first and second round pick to an early third in the space of 2 years. Some depreciation.

Jeremy Cameron
Unless we get involved as a third party to help facilitate. GWS want fair compensation for losing Cameron, they won’t be fussed if the entirety of that compensation comes from Geelong.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Geelong tried to blow GWS out of the water with a pretty massive deal. Glad to see GWS didn’t blink. A deal will be done. With Daniher’s contract drawing band 1 compensation, the dollars speculated for a Brown deal to Melb are very favourable by comparison. Also sounds like Burgess has swung things in our favour & Brown is prepared to take slightly less to work with him.

5 and change I would have thought. Cats got two 1st rounders, p24 & p37 for Kelly, p57 & a ‘20 third round pick in return. Cameron is getting close to a mill a year with a trigger for 6th year. The length of deal probably means they could match as there’s theoretically room to load in back end of deal.

Jaidyn Stephenson
Collingwood's cap squeeze problems have been on the horizon for the whole year. Stephenson and others have come up through the year, and the impression I've gotten is that the club have been unhappy with him for some time. Rumours going around about his lack of professionalism (as mentioned by others). On talent, he'd be a great get (including positional fit), but not sure whether the character questions would spook us. Particularly on the back of the Bennell experience.

He also has connections to Bombers (most of his stuff is very Essendon friendly), so can believe that the Bombers perspective is that he's coming to us.

Trade Targets
I think we should have an almighty crack at Clark now. He wont get a clear crack at it for at least 2 years now. Freo were having a go before the Smith news.

Tom Phillips - Outside Skills and Speed
Pies would probably entertain a future pick as they’ll be keen to bank points to cover Nick Daicos bids, which are expected to be pretty high.

AFL Trade Radio
Must admit, I'm really enjoying Damo's segment with SOS & Matt Rendell. There's a tonne of list management experience and knowledge that comes through (despite the odd Rendell gaffe).
-
Trade Targets
I think that would be his long term view (being a mid), but first priority is getting to a club that will see him get game time. I think he would have a lot of miles to run to get his tank up to consistent midfield minutes in any event. I wouldn't see that preference limiting the fit between Higgins and us.
-
Trade Targets
I think he could be a very good fit for us. He sees himself as a mid who plays forward, has an incredibly high footy IQ with good skill (and we can't have enough of that type). He's a footy head who just loves the game and would be a pretty good locker room presence as well. The big concern is whether his health issues present any risk in terms of his future performance, but i haven't heard anything that suggests it will, the big issue is the time out of footy and missed development time.

That midfield time isn't going to increase much. Dunkley's reduction in midfield time correlates with a healthy Tom Lib spending more time in the middle and Bailey Smith virtually doubling time spent inside. You aren't giving either of those two less time in the square, so can understand Dunkey having a look (and also the Bulldogs predicament). I think the Bulldogs are in a position to let Dunkley move on and get decent compensation. 2020 picks would hold no appeal given the Jamarra Ugle-Hagan bids would swallow any valuable '20 pick they could secure. Bulldogs have been interested in Tipungwuti for a while, and if I were them, that's where my trade demand would start.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
North pushing out the door is just confusing everyone. They've really shot themselves in the foot with how they've devalued Brown this year. The view that Brown is limited in how he wins the ball (well documented in this thread) is reasonably wide spread, but the stats don't lie either. It may mean we have to adjust how we play in order to capitalise on those strengths.
