I was recently watching full replays with the different commentaries, and was struck in the 3rd quarter that with about 1 min 20 sec on the clock the ball was in the back half. I'd momentarily slipped into regular Aussie Rules watching mode and thought ah ok nearly 3qtr time not much left to happen - hang on! We've still got 3 goals to squeeze in here!?!?! No wonder the Bulldogs mids looked so shellshocked after Clarry's goal.
-
I remember being super anxious at 3qtr time of the GF, terrified that an early Dogs goal in the last would precipitate another momentum shift. So for me it was only after Brown's goal in the last that my nerves started to settle, and probably 2 goals more before I truly started relaxing.

Ahhh something to get us through the off season! Thanks for this. -
Furphy Melbourne Premiers Cases of Beer
gs77 replied to YesitwasaWin4theAges's topic in Melbourne Demons
To think all our *sponsor* Furphy had to do was slap a different sticker on some bottles and they could have cashed in on our success-starved MFC fan delirium that has seen millions pumped into Premiers merchandise sales. Instead some non-sponsor independent brewery seems to be cashing in. -
EVERY ANGLE: New look at Dees' flag-winning burst
gs77 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A fascinating thing for me with those comments is how quickly their supporters seemed to concede that they were done. As early as after Trac's goal at which point we were only a couple of goals up. I only started to relax about 4 goals into the last quarter! -
As evidenced by his appearance in the rooms after the Grand Final, Shane Woewodin still fits into his 2000 Grand Final guernsey. FMD I'd give organs to be able to fit into anything I was wearing in 2000.

Wow! Didn't realise he'd doubled his career goals tally in 2021. 59 goals and 6 in the GF! Outstanding stuff. What an asset to our forward line. Loved that Goody "mea culpa"ed on the decision to play Fritta in defence for a period in recent years. Huge kudos to Fritsch for both improving his goal kicking accuracy and his defensive efforts this year.

Darrell Eastlake - à la his exuberant early 1990s commonwealth games weightlifting commentating. Pretty sure he led to noise complaints! -
Depends if he wants a Brownlow or not.

Furphy Melbourne Premiers Cases of Beer
gs77 replied to YesitwasaWin4theAges's topic in Melbourne Demons
Argh! I'd load up on cases of these if they were sold to the public. -
Loved him since we drafted him and so proud of how he's got his fitness to a point where he can fully realise his talent. His game went to another level towards the finals and again in the GF. How good is it to finally have a Melbourne player win the medal named after the great Norm Smith?!?!

300 games is an exceptional milestone. We've a few players in the approx 24yo bracket who'll be around 150 games by end of next season. 300 games is another 6 uninterrupted and finals-playing years on top of that. I'd agree Oliver would be a possibility. Trac's early career ACL might’ve slightly dented his chances. Rivers if he stays fit and with us might be a chance, but way too much water to pass under the bridge yet. A shoutout to TMac, currently on 193 games - should notch up a well deserved 200 game milestone for us next year - he looked gone this time 12 months ago.

Yes, apparently Chandler

Now that we’ve won the premiership in the men’s
gs77 replied to Cassiew's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Hopefully it'll inspire them. The recruitment of Tayla Harris adds profile, and the annual growth in the skills on display has been super rapid, so I for one am excited to see what our womens' team can produce. A premiership for womens' team is part of our club plan, so hopefully we can tick it off. -
Bidding for the signed Clayton Oliver premiership guernsey has surpassed $20,000! Would think there'd still be plenty of bids to come to take Trac's and Gawn's higher than their current $10k and $15k, respectively. Great for the club!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOM SPARROW
gs77 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was absolutely rapt with Sparrow's performance at the business end of the season. Really good signs to see a player thrive on the bigger stage. -
I'm not sure what it says about my mindset but all I saw when looking at that crab photo was a Premiership Cup.

Love the modification to the Demonland banner, @Demonland!

Damn. Class act on and off the field. Hope he stays involved in some fashion. Absolutely tenacious footballer that I loved watching. Best of luck for the future, Nev.

Avg pts per game is problematic too - e.g. a BoG in a losing elim final team - but yes, definitely there should be a correction for teams that skip through to a prelim. The current system is a joke.

Yep. Bucket list complete... ... but I also now want 4 in a row and 16 flags. Then a 17th to sit clear on top of the pile. I want us to be hated by every supporter base in the land. I want us to be so strong financially and well set up off field that we genuinely contend for decades. I want us to be the club that generations of kids defect to.

Taylor Walker = f l o g Jake Lever = flag

How good was it to see Woey in the guernsey and genuinely looking delighted! It'd be awesome if his son plays for us! Fantastic too to see Allen Jakovich - great work by Gary to coax him into the rooms (and how good was his nervous f-bomb!).

A blu-ray was on the site but appeared to have sold out by the time i tried to order it. Assuming more inventory will be coming. The club will make millions in merch out if this and I'm keen to contribute!

Trac Oliver Jackson Salem Fritsch Petty [censored] it - bloody everyone. I love you all!
