I heard Barrett on trade radio a couple of days ago saying he knows for a fact that the AFL are very concerned about how MFC is being run. Think what he wrote is him being a mouthpiece for AFL.
  2. Haven’t seen him play but going off what others have said and his RMC profile it looks like a smart bit of business. I have been critical of our trading over the past few years and particularly Tim Lamb, but I’m happy with our moneyball approach to trading this year. Both Sharp and Derksen( if GWS play ball) would fill and need, have upside and cost bugger all leaving our main chips for the draft, given our current situation I think it’s a very good approach.
  3. In the games I saw him play towards the end of the year it struck me that he had already put on a fair bit of muscle. I sure he will have an AFL ready body after this preseason. He has a very unusual body shape with his hunched over upper back but seemed have pretty on a bit of beef in his legs. 2025 will be the year that defines him I think.
  4. Did you mean IN COMING TO PLAY WITH YOU.
  5. Hi Red&Blue thanks for all your good work. Do we know for certain that Melksham was retained as a rookie and not put back on the main list?
  6. Gday FFD, agree 5/6 draftees be that via main draft, rookie or SSP is on the high side but I think it makes sense for us this year. We will have 7/8 list spots to fill this year and probably close to that again next year. So we will turn over a lot of our list and don’t have an enormous amount of draft capital. This year’s draft is touted to be perhaps the deepest of recent times. It also isn’t as compromised as recent drafts by academy and F/S picks In addition it has a very strong Victorian representation and is also stacked with mids that is a need for us. Its shaping up as the perfect draft to top up on young talent before Tassie comes in in a couple of years I think We are rumoured to want 2 picks inside 15 and another inside top 30. I’d be happy if we added another 2/3 at the tail end of the draft via late, rookie or SSP. I think(could be wrong) that Riak Andrew is also available to us though our NGA.
  7. Given the depth of this draft and the fact that we have 3 academy or F/S options at the tail end or rookie selections I’m hoping we take 5/6 via the drafts. We could always leave a couple of spots to fill via SSP and have a handful of players train with us for the last couple of spots. We have a lot of spots to fill this year and next and will have to find a few different ways to acquire talent.
  8. Think can add Smith and KFW to the list and Hore is still in limbo. So I think we currently have 6 spots to fill with a call to be made on Hore. That’s assuming we don’t resign Tommo

Not super keen on giving Peatling 5 years of one decent patch of form leading into a trade but in a choice between the two I’d def go with him as it still leaves us with enough draft capital to boost our rebuild.

The top bracket of 1-6 don’t seem to have the same X factor as previous years and the next level is fairly close and very deep. If we are going to end up with 2 picks inside 15 and another in the 25-30 range I don’t mind splitting if it means holding onto our F1st.

    Splitting 5 perhaps ?!
  12. We played with 2 rucks for the two season before we traded Jackson. We were able to convince Grundy a million dollar AA ruck that we would continue to play two rucks. You don’t think we could have convinced Meek- come and win and flag and learn from the greatest ruck man ever?! Who’s in his 30s. I mean surely we could have convinced him. Arces was - F3rd pick on a three year deal for $350k. I think we could easily have brought in Meek and Arces for less than Grundy and Hunter. Edit- both these players were moved on to make Jackson deal possible. We were in the box seat if we had of made the moves.
  13. My point was meant to be more about our overall post flag trading than just the Amon deal. I don’t believe TPP is an excuse for our poor trading. We were the best team in the league in the middle of a flag window. We should have been able to attract a big fish but that didn’t happen. But the Hawks and others have proven there were good role players to be had if our list management was better. We could have brought in Meek and Acres instead of Grundy and Hunter for example. Even with the Pies chipping in for Grundy, Meek and Acres would have cost us less.
  14. I’m sure Hawks would have offered a bit more money but I’m sure we could of offered him a decent contract while we were right in the middle of our prem window and the Hawks were bottom dwellers. I don’t think TPP is a good excuse for our poor trading post flag.

I would have liked to get him but I don’t think we should pay overs to get him over the line. Both in terms of cash and length of contract. Bit of a red flag for me that his best bit of form comes just as he’s out of contract and trying to get the best deal possible.

They would also split 25 for a lot more than 756 points and given the depth of this draft they may be able to split 38.

Your maths makes the deal a bit more likely in terms of what the Lions will agree too but I think they will want a future pick included in any deal.

Hmmmm I guess we won’t be having a big crack at this draft so. Kentfield has already replaced Gus in terms of list spots I think so it’s down to 5. You’d think we fill take on two rookies, that leaves 3 list spots to be filled and 4 if they delist Hore. Cant believe we have Hunter for another year. Can we just payout his contract and get him off the list?

As important as it is to get pick 5 right I really think that with the amount of players we will turnover this year and next we really need to find some gems either late in this draft, rookies or SSP. We need to find a Chad Warner, McVee or Olly Dempsey somewhere. Hard to do but given the depth of this draft, our NGA and F/S option and with JT at the wheel I can’t wait to see how this draft unfolds. I just hope we have enough list spots to allow JT to have a proper crack.

Article doesn’t say if he will remain on the rookie list or not. Given we seem to be getting tight for rookie spots I assume he’s back in the main list. Anybody know for sure?
  21. Good to see Riak Andrew listed among the best. #5 Riak Andrew Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005 Stats: 9 disposals, 5 tackles, 3 hitouts Andrew played yet another effective shutdown role down back, restricting Harry Armstrong to eight disposals and a goal. The over-ager was beaten at times when taken up the ground but gave Armstrong nothing inside defensive 50, being aided by ample aerial support and competing hard. Among his best moments was a loose ball win against Archie Ludowyke on the last line, and his holding-the-ball tackle in term four. As per usual, he could hardly be faulted for effort.

Chad Warner hasn’t resigned with them. Out of contract next year and lots of talk he wanted to go back to WA with Freo the front runners. They have the trade capital, as do West Coast. If he move they would have the cap. Lots of brand marketing options in Sydney.
  23. Colm replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
I know all the talk is a big Vic club but Sydney are still a watch for me.

I have been wondering if this might be the case.I didn’t think his statement was as convincing as Dan Houston and he’s back on the trade table. Probably a smart play- has stopped the rumour machine and might be waiting to see if another club can get a deal or two done to get the draft capital.
  25. Assume @dazzledavey36 would have a bit of knowledge about them both.
