That will end up in smoke

Would be great to have a home stadium/training base on the Mornington Peninsula then, similar to the Kardinia Park set up on the Bellarine Peninsula

And does anyone know who the coaches working under Griffith are? Am I correct in thinking AFL clubs now have a "High Performance Manager" (e.g. the role Griffith is in) and a separate "Strength and Conditioning Coach"?

For total number of players used in a season, click here and sort by number of players used (3rd column). West Coast used the most last season with 47; Melbourne the least with 33; AFL average was 38. For number of debutants, click here (not sure how reliable the data is). West Coast had the most with 10; Melbourne the least with 1. For games missed through injury, the AFL usually publishes an annual injury report in May of the following year

If the Mornington Peninsula ever gets its deserved "regional" status from a Vic government, set up a stadium and training base down there (somewhere) and get minimum $150m in funding. It would offer the players the exact same lifestyle the Geelong players enjoy and it could become another graveyard for opposition teams, like GMHBA stadium

You can't be serious. Gutnick was ousted in 2001 and up until then Olympic Park was in the hands of Athletics Victoria/Australia until Brumby, McGuire and Fildes did secret deals to obtain it for Collingwood in 2008. Gutnick, ignoring all his failings, deserves a life membership for helping Melbourne survive during the wretched merger period

  10. Eventually that is going to happen somewhere given the number of coaches that get sacked every year!
  11. Templeton kicked 99 goals in 34 games and Moore got a Brownlow. Hardly nothing, but yes, seemed to offer a lot more at the time for the $300k price tag. The Phil Carman trade with Ross Brewer in '79 was worse. Carman played 1 [censored] season for us and Brewer went on to play in 2 (losing) grannies for Collingwood. Also, the Greg Wells trade in '81 to Carlton for $35k and Vinny Catoggio hurt too. And I know this will upset a lot of Demonlanders but arguably our worst trade of recent times was done during Prendergast's disastrous draft pick era (2008-2012): Mitch Clark (36 goals in 2 seasons) for pick 12 (Sam Docherty)
  12. GC Suns of recent times (admittedly, most requested to be traded): Prestia, Dixon, O’Meara, Hall, Saad, Lynch, Lyons, Wright, May, Brodie, etc. And now Bowes and Rankine

Because Eddie always wanted Olympic Park and saw the perfect opportunity in 2005 to effectively steal it when he was appointed to the board of Athletics Australia thanks to his mate and former Pies player Rob Fildes. This article explains half the story behind the "acquisition" of Olympic Park: https://www.smh.com.au/national/collingwood-secretly-lobbied-for-park-20090811-egz0.html The real question is how did McGuire get on the board of Athletics Australia when he had no involvement whatsoever in Athletics up until then and what negotiations did he have with Brumby. It is just another classic example of ruthless opportunism by McGuire, one of the luckiest [censored] on the planet. It was also unfortunate that at the time (2007-2009) we were in our darkest period and had no hope of seizing the opportunity. That's what makes this current period in our history all the more important in finding a home.

Relax. Gawny and Jacko versus Fort and McStay. I think we'll be okay

  17. That is truly awful
  18. As selfish and as melodramatic as this sounds but I almost cried when Elliott kicked that goal at the 20 minute mark in the 3rd quarter yesterday. I honestly thought I am never going to see Melbourne win a premiership in person. Last year still doesn't feel real because it was on TV. For what it's worth, I predict we will make the 8 but we will go out in straight sets. Unfortunately this year the curse seems to be hanging over us again and we are not handling and absorbing the pressure in big games, unlike last year. Hope I am wrong

Yes, some commentators in the media also comparing us now to Richmond 2018: https://www.sen.com.au/news/2022/04/11/be-very-afraid-unbeaten-demons-have-huge-scope-for-improvement/ Can we hope of matching our club record of 7 consecutive GFs instead?!
  25. Can't believe no mention whatsoever of Burgess or Taylor or Mahoney. And a one second reference of Peter Jackson. Those guys were pivotal in our rebuild and getting us to where we are today, in my opinion
