Farewell Clayton Oliver
The mark of a great player. Side note, only 2 players in the history of VFL/AFL have achieved this 3 times: KB (67,73,74) and Lethal (71, 76, 78)

Welcome Back Cookie
Tough upbringing. Wonder where he finished in the 1977 Grand Final Mile?

Welcome Back Cookie
Seven weeks after his retirement party, this veteran footy boss is back to help the Demons Veteran administrator Brian Cook has been hired to mentor novice football chief executive Paul Guerra at the Demons. Cook, who retired from full-time work at the end of this season after more than three decades in football administration, culminating in his term as chief executive of Carlton, will mentor Guerra for a day a week on football matters. Cook was one of the longest serving chief executives in the AFL system having spent nine years at the West Coast Eagles before moving to Geelong where he was in charge for 23 years and finally four years at the Blues, the last of which was handing over to his successor Graham Wright. The Demons are aiming to tap into Cook’s vast experience and, more importantly, his football network to mentor Guerra, who was previously chief executive of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and had not worked in the AFL industry. The appointment also comes less than two months after football powerbrokers and politicians gathered for a luncheon in the MCC committee room to honour Cook’s career in what was billed as a farewell to footy. “The idea [of appointing Cook] was really to provide a mentor for Paul with his lack of football experience,” Melbourne’s new president Steven Smith said. “Brian is an old teammate of mine - he played with me in the few senior games he played in the late 70s - and he has vast experience in the game that could be really important and helpful to us. “The timing was right for him and for us. Brian is one of the most highly respected administrators in the comp so he is ideal for Paul. We were lucky with the timing. “It won’t be full-time, it will be about a day a week, it might be three to four hours a week, we will see how it goes.” The position will only be advising on football matters and he not a review the executive or business structure. The Demons want to access Cook’s long relationships in the game, to support Guerra as he delves into the nuances of football industry politics. The appointment comes after a season of huge change at Melbourne. Aside from Guerra’s appointment, the club changed senior coach with the appointment of Steven King after the premiership coach Simon Goodwin was sacked mid-year. Smith has just taken over from Brad Green after a planned transition, and most critically the club made hard decisions on the playing list, trading out contracted pair Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver as the Demons continue a youth-driven list revitalisation using the draft picks from the Petracca trade to once more push into the top end of the draft.

Still no way forward
44 goals in his first full season suggests otherwise. At age 22 in the most difficult position on the ground, mind you. Oh and we drafted Bailey Laurie before him
-
Still no way forward
And yet the team he came from relied on 2 brilliant key forwards in Cameron and Neale (both in the top 15 Coleman)
-
Still no way forward
Agree, but they are not tall forwards. Milkshake is 35 next year. He is not going to kick more than 20 goals. I like Fritsch but he needs decent talls around him to get back to his '21 form. Hopefully Mihocek can provide that
-
Still no way forward
Their best and fairest, Gunston, is a key forward. Only 2nd in the Coleman last year. Choi, another key forward, finished in top 20 Coleman too
-
Still no way forward
Apart from Freo, what forward line is stacked with key forwards? We don't have 1 decent key tall, apart from perhaps Mihocek
-
Still no way forward
And here is last year's output from the tall forwards we do have: Petty - 20 goals from 19 games JVR - 16 goals from 16 games Jeffo - 4 goals from 7 games Johnson - 3 goals from 5 games Heath - 3 goals from 4 games Kentfield, White - 0 goals from 0 games Only Mihocek had a decent return last year of 36 goals from 22 games. But he will be 33 in Feb. So @Ugottobekidding has a point. We need a key forward that can take a mark and kick goals!

Still no way forward
Melksham (186cm) and Fritsch (188cm) are not tall forwards

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Only 8 out of 25 for Cal this time round, with only Liam Hetherton (#27) and Louis Emmett (#30) remaining as chances. Really hope we pick Ludowyke with our 3rd pick tonight
-
AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Surprised Ludowyke not on Twomey's list. Would be amazing if we could snag him with our 3rd pick

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Grlj to Hawks at #14 would be very annoying

Same boat alright. The Blue Goose

Farewell Clayton Oliver
And Stringer and Green. But to get the CEO and the coach on the boat as well suggests it may have already been planned?
-
Training Ground?
Not a snowflake chance in hell..... "CEO Andrew Dillon said the purchase of the ground would assist with "talent pathways programs, community footy, and umpire development and programs"." And don't Freo and West Coast want to use it for training when over here?

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Planned meeting? All the big hitters on the boat
