Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Not a bad call either .

Are we fit enough?
He has trouble using a Sub again. We are playing 22 players and it is not fair on Pup or the team. Then he says we played too safe AGAIN and does that two weeks in a row with his Sub. Said it two weeks ago Goody has got to be creative and positive. If not we won’t have a chance of making Finals. Thst said it was a very good performance and probably our best game since Cats or start of the year.

Trade Targets
It’s not always “about now”. Future and 23/24 yo who have been injured and bought in too quick or underdone need time like racehorses. This time nex t year for you want him tendering for Crows or us? I believe he will finish this season positively and given another proper pre season will return to his best. oh and so will Clarry !!

Trade Targets
No too old and Suns bound probably. This is not our greatest weakness. Solve our forward and mid lines and defence takes care of itself. Match winners needed not match savers !!

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Agree those who want to wait for a mountain of a man before selecting him are off the track. Jeffo looks like a real footballer whose skills are with his feet, hands and brain and those three advantages will beat weight and physique any day. You can play footy if you have ability with limited strength like Kennedy but you can’t get the ball only with 100 kg frame if you haven’t got footy skills. Big picture is with JVR and Petty or another tall Jeffo won’t always get the first defender. I am starting to believe he may even be better than we are hoping such has his development been in 2024 albeit only in the VFL. Time to stop comparing his linear development with JVR and await his time in the sun.

The last we hear is not necessarily the correct or probable outcome. Playing dorment on your wishes is no crime.

Are we witnessing a re-build by stealth
Thought it was a good entree to our possible team ( minus possibly Salo and no doubt Trac ) also Jefferson is now starting to look much more like the footballer we saw in the highlights and wisely recruited him on that potential. He will fit in our forward line and give it some A grade looks at times His marking kicking and ground ability plus new found developing hardness for the contest bode well for our most maligned part of the ground. Most of the Casey boys given a go have shown they are not too far short of AFL standard. Pup needs a few full games and AMW , Howes are looking reliable calm and rounded to assist us fill in the gaps and improve some facets of our game. Kolt is a good style and will develop in leaps and bounds at half forward and with plenty of cameos and mid field grunt and spirit be a force to be reckoned with by mid 2025 I believe. Apprenticeship time for the rest of the season will be the key Not sure why Chin has kept his place all this time so Kynan would benefit from a real debut as a hfflanker come on the ball cameos to test him out. Whst do we do with Tommy Sparrow ? Is he going to fulfill his potential or fade nicely as a 15 possession player. Maybe make him a tagger and be taken to the ball as he has some strength and hardness plus kicking skill we can still use. If we could guarantee this performance for the next 8/9 games I have no doubt we could again make Finals. But not win a Flag though. And might even win a Final or two,

Andy Moniz-Wakefield to Debut
On his debut tonight he may even step up one day next season and assist the kick ins. Thought tonight we did get superb distance but just every now and again we should go short and start a run from the back. Our ability to discover potentially good half backs is amazing. We need to if Riv is going to perform in the guts. Seems set for a fine even more impactful career if he can fine tune his disposal.

Look at Logan McDonald?
Not my figures I think JVR is on the left. BTW Logan is at least a year older than Rooy and if the table provided is correct in Rooy on LH side they are about equal if Logan is one year ahead.
-
Look at Logan McDonald?
Is he going to be better than Rooy in a year or two? We need a ready made recruit for forward strength especially if we lose Petty. It’s a pity but we should have gone after say Tex at least 2/3 years ago but also have not had BBB or Tmac for hardly any consistent period fully fit either. Perhsps we should bite the bullet now and swap Tmac and Harry to see if that keeps the defence strong and provides a bigger bodied target up forward along with Fritta plus youngsters and crumbers able to feed of him at times.

Please get off Clarry's back. Show some respect!
While I understand the Hogan clearance issue for the Club I still look at Jesse and how much better our forward line would be now with him as spearhead. I don’t fancy seeing Clarry in another Guernsey helping them up Finals whilst out mids sort out their level in our midfield of the future. Trading is a two way art and there teams with mids who shouldn’t even be alliwed to do up Clarry’s bootlaces. It is a panic measure to clear Clarry based on 2024 form just the same as Harry Petty. Those D/Landers that wanted to clear Trac at the end of 2019 were just the sort of impatient fans that don’t understand sport or the AFL and the same is playing out now. Don’t think we will see either Clarry or Petts and it may have something to do with their very early intro to this season and their not in great form consistently in 2024. But a full pre season can change things around dramatically. If that happens our team already looks 4/5 goals better.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
Ross Lyon sorted out the Saints famously about 15 years ago. Just dropped some struggling stars and woa a huge lift in form permanently, Msybe this is necessary. Our Coach has never been good with Any thing resembling a Plan B or C. Fighting off a tag. Put the player where he has to play footy not the man In the goal square Have Clarry lead out from the square for a period. 2/3 goals will disrupt that scheme, where are the other players to help Clarry?? Gawny has the same problem at times. Put Fritta at half back for 10 mins. Change the thinking or on the ball. It’s all about making it not what your opponent is comfortable with. Change it up. One other thing Who/ What is our leadership group? Gawny JV and ??? About time there is a concerted effort to lead and lift our aspirations and performance and determination. Our mojo is missing and there is something “ rotting in the state of Naarm”. It needs to be eradicated. Too many of our goods/ greats of 2021 are accepting mediocrity. This is no dynasty it’s becoming a travesty of large proportions growing by the Round. We are heading to the Lions Den and anything less than our very best will be punished on the scoreboard mercilessly. And I suspect that an urgent need for a change in coaching preparation and attitude is necessary. The players are playing scared as if the world is on their shoulders/heads. They need the vision and fun back into their game. Enjoyment not just artificially manufactured but genuinely evident with tackling team ethos and togetherness. Then all the skills are naturally approached and enjoyed and can be lauded together. Goody has 9 rounds to provide an answer as do some players. Some have gone from Champs to chumps letting their standards drop. Our toughness has disappeared also. And an encouraging word from Lady Pres might be just what the doctor ordered. Amazing but do you remember a certain ex Pres go IMO after that performance vs Port legitimately viral in 2020 and what happened a mere 15 months later. Otherwise it will go viral somehow between now and next season if it’s not addressed both on and off the field. The AFLW are also on notice after their sudden demise from grace last season. Have they removed some irons from the closet. Let’s see also in 2024. Sorry but at the moment we have a very similar vibe as before 2014 of no leadership and real unity plus the Spirit that has served is so well in recent times. I am open to opposing views of what’s wrong or what’s happening that has us in this trough of insignificance again. It’s not the time to let things run under the carpet. Get to work Dees and all hands dirty from Board down. It’s what Great Clubs have to do now and again. Reinvent in the run. But first you have to see the signs around you. And publicly they are ready to burst out any time if we keep going like now I feel. Go Dees.

Kynan (Pup) Brown Debut announced by Alex Neal-Bullen on MFC website.
His was close to another Schache debacle. Really Simon has just scraped in by his teeth in this one. Slow learner Simon imagine the ruckus if he didn’t use our sub AGAIN. Instant dismissal or resignation!! Gee his match day methods are archaic at times. Unbelievably negative and so disappointing just shows why he should have let Josh Shak Attack have his 15 mins in the sun. We might have won!!!!!

CASEY: RD 13 vs North Melbourne VFL
Agree HD it’s AMW time!!
-
CASEY: RD 13 vs North Melbourne VFL
That’s because for all the reasons so many say AMW does not deserve a place because he does this this and this wrong at half back it is easier to learn a HB role than HF. Surely he has the instincts of a HF also so give him a go where we badly need some oomph and goals. Some D/Lers want only ready made products to get a guernsey. We can’t wait nor should we as we will lose players if they are not debuted after some time. AMW has had a good block of games where he has Been easily the most possessions gained and deserves a shot. Chin is not playing well so Bowey could be given a HF chance and AMW debut at HB. We have got to be creative as clearly our 23 at the moment is well down on the strength needed for a Top4 spot. Too many players are below their best and the team aspect is very much needed if we are to succeed.

Andrew Wu (The Age) on our DEECLINE
Every one of those possibly you have chosen are not given away or not had reasonably successful or good AFL careers. They appear past their best at the age we have recruited them. Grundy and Gawn are No 1 rucks Yes he is a good / very good ruck but not the great that Maxy is. Perhaps we should have been more patient but Maxy is only a No 1,ruck and Brody hasn’t the strings and bows to play second fiddle. Jordon is being managed better and that issue is consistent with Bedford who is like Woe and Laurie both the same in/ out /sub category which is wearing on such players careers etc. Harmes was a tagger so that also affected Jordon. He lost confidence and also faith I think. Goody is nothing but consistent with his ideas which don’t help players at times. Jacko is an unfortunate loss but like Craig Thompson to SA but all Clubs have to handle this in the AFL environment. You are correct up to a point but I also think that the VFL players replacing them are also a season away from their breakout to AFL. Some may still have to learn on the run if we don’t trade productively for next season.

A new dawn for the Demons - our 2025 squad
A good forward line should be made up of different players. If Fritta is used by you only for drafting who are you looking forward replacement. To virtually throw the baby out with the bath water when he is thrr ER bleats of our problems. Is he supposed to kick 3 or 4 goals per week? An average of 2 or 2.5 is healthy and he rarely does not score. Did Tunbridge or Vagg ever get dropped for lack of physicality? No because the side played its part. Tweaks can be made but it’s like saying we lose Trac and or Maxy because of their poor goal kicking at times. Look at the goals not the tackles. That's the smaller types plus the crash and bash of JVR and Jeffo and possibly Kenterfield to contribute. Mss as the s bit of jumping into packs on opposition backs occasionally is allowed trying to mark of course.

No need to list Angus in that category. Delisted or retired would cover the two categorises quite nicely I believe.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
Agreed Similar to JV playing in the past when shouldn’t have. Also remember the Practice match Joel Smith was returned and the consequences. Why has Chin not been rested or dropped? We need goals from our forwards as we acknowledge with Spargs fall from grace which brings up another injury anomaly. Why play on O Round and no Casey fitness g as me? Also Disco is in danger of being ruined for the same reason Much as I like his cameo up forward he really with Lever should have been a like for like. Isn’t that what he has trained and developed for 3?years??? Cameos forward during games are fine generally from much more mature and proven players to assist the team on the day.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
My Mind immediately thought of the Cox deliberate act of the same magnitude. Trouble is it’s not illegal but it’s deliberate or careless and at times no duty of care.
