We will find out first in 2025, then 2026.

Unforgettable and being there seeing it all proceed. There are enough stars with good footy ahead if our role and younger players plus 2/3 trades and 1/2 Windsor type drafts all unite to challenge in the short or long term. It was amazing replaying the GF and the MC G celebration and the social interaction with friends and families plus the odd drinks to still celebrate. Let’s do it again Dees asap!!

Here Here Ollie. The fact is supporting a footy team has no guarantees of success. But I can’t help feeling we have the craziest fans who after 4/6 years of Success with a season in between get all dissatisfied and can’t handle some downturn in performance or personnel on our list. For the very ones I am talking to most things in life are variable and much of it we can’t control. Some things like weather, your kids results at school largely variable, your kids sporting or hobby pursuits. Do you say to your son or daughter if they aren’t the best in the team sorry no dancing, footy, tennis or ten pin bowling. Generally NO. Yet adults just say no for reasons that are trifling and don’t think any thing of it. NO needs to be thought through and if finances or your work are a genuine factor then you have to consider your options. Footy ( sport) is one of my great interests in life and I would be lost without it. I still attend Theatre regularly have multiple book clubs, at least once a month attend something that arises in the other arts or sport. Also belong to three ā€œorganisationsā€ who have monthly or regular events that I attend. It does help to be single and of course catch up with another jem in life in eating out at different styles of restaurants and cafes. Plus travel fairly often. To give up any of this would need to be health or financial problems or a very serious disagreement with a person/ member of those organisations. But the loyalty to MFC the mighty Dees is now 67 years uninterrupted membership and we have only made the Finals for 22 years and of course had the 57 year drought until our most recent 13th Premiership. FWIW Although it’s looking tougher next year to succeed I feel that 2025 might be a year ( hopefully like 2021) where we have some good fortune, no serious injuries, our champs fit and firing and our recruits and younger players develop quicker than hoped. And we are totally united and super aggressive in our football again. Most of that will be needed to be Top4 again. Here’s hoping

Why not get auto renew saves any angst.

I answered that your assertion that the Club does not care is not true. I am certainly not questioning your accuracy or truth about the seats etc details.

That still our Club btw. But you recruit for AFL not VFL really. I believe Derkson sounds ready to step up and like the style of GWS recruits. So YES from me.

I think you are not correct with the sweeping statement of the poor track of recruitment this decade. I realise that our 4 best have probably been May 2019 Lever 2018 then Lingers and BBB in 2021. They are not too blame nor are the Club as the Flag was ( and could still be) a result of their extra ability and professionalism plus performance. After that we started arranging our star players ( Max TracClarry Angus JV. ) and it started to get out of hand in the length and occasionally a little overs in payment. Tmac got a 4 year term free his standout year in 2018 after 53 goals in 2018. Harmes was rewarded with a deal too long and this has resulted in some role players getting deals too long and reducing our flexibility to recruit and trade. Hunter Schache Laurie are examples of that. So we need not be so generous it seems because that has come back to bite us. The long term stars deals have served us pretty well but lesser lights have possibly been overvalued and not paid their way. Also we have joined picks to move up the draft order recently which has reduced our no of selections in alleged poor drafts, and not used picks after second round using rookie lists to take a chance. This year is interesting as Yze Mentha and another lad I think are Academy or F/Son selections and surely it’s a squeeze if we don’t move say Hore or Tommo stays. The days of a No 53 like Tmac should be good in this deep draft so hope we use or picks wisely.

You can be the person that arranges the roster for these experts say 5 at each game 3 home 2 away over the 207 games each season. The logistics would require a full time AFL employee to be available 24/7 and on weekends also. No thanks. Let’s not get too bogged down the Coaches votes are the best really and plenty of diversity in their selections. Still have mids winning though.

Yes Salo and Bowser transitioned along with Riv better in 2021 than now. I still feel it’s a game plan/ style issue as McVee does run mostly and Riv a bit. Take your point as it is most important in forward connection in our team.
  10. I know it’s a long shot but I wonder if our recent issues and Trac’s situation might have occurred if Gus was still at the Club. I really think Trac might like others be missing the Gus effect within the Club. If so we must overcome this and redevelop our spirit and bond to assist our footy. Let’s hope we are able to solve this over pre season and move on if this a factor of any consequence.

Quite frankly I watch other Club games and this bloke goes not seem to stand out or make me sit up and say ā€œwe should get himā€. Maybe it’s because I would rather us concentrate on wick fast mids or a star smaller forward ( if any available in trading) rather than half back. Also never have been impressed really with the Power defence. Allir Allir stands out like a beacon.

If he doesn’t want to come don’t waste our time.

Do you really know anything about Wade ? Others that are posting seem to have some knowledge and are relatively keen. I’d back them rather than your off handed comment.
  14. The Norwood Medal winner should be seriously considered as he is a good footballer. 200cm and can play up forward. Maybe one of our 3 Rd rounders might secure him?
  15. When it’s all said and done we had 42 players ( or 2 short) with our list this season. Still don’t know why we couldn’t get a replacement for Gus. And the treatment of Joel Smith ( no matter what he did) and the delay of nearly 12 months with him in limbo and is a player down for the whole season ( and our Club forced to abandon him and accordingly be treated like a criminal ) is quite dehumanising and would in any other situation be a red flag alert for mental health issues. His father Shaun our high marking forward of the 90’s is a case in point with football related issues affecting his life to the extent of marriage separation being a consequence as a result. why can’t there be a rule in drugs cases handled by WADA that you are allowed to continue your sport till it is ultimately proved you have broken the rules with your drug taking. It shouldn’t take that long ( I am aware that they are investigating some further alleged breaches to do with possible charges of approaching others to take drugs). Then Trac and Clarry our 2 best onballers and champions laid low thorough fitness and side effects of injury for half a season. Plus Spargo out for 2024 playing only one game. 2025 needs to be a whole new season and possibly a new updated game plan plus more 2021 attitudes and team bonding.

As I have maintained in my posts there are especially in this forum disappointingly posters just throwing darts. There is level of feedback in major announcements and if they tried to answer every minor winge from D/Lers that their honest or mostly irrelevant concerns it would be a waste of time. Nothing in my mind from this forum leaves me with any doubt that this project won’t go ahead if it gets the next stage of approval from appropriate stakeholders and a positive response from relevant funding authorities. I hope this process is not dogged by negative and minor random thoughts every day till June 2025. Already many posters some in potential good will mostly can see their frustration or anger and comedic estimations time wise have been completely wasting their time posting remarks.

Govt’s don’t stop financing even in debt. Yes they are more careful but you forget this is a community project as well.

MCC or MFC? You are dreaming if the MCC would give money It has no stake in the development. i think you mean MFC?

Spargo has not got the tank IMO to play wing full time. I also believe we fast forward The Duke ( Windsor) career by placing him in the centre. He reminds me of Chad Warner in some way and hopefully he is putting on muscle. He from the centre and not wing would become a 20/25 plus goalkicker in 2025 and increase in the future. His disposal is elite and I think he might be strong enough with a tank to star for us. Also attend stoppages at centre bounce !!

I don’t think we need a half back but sorely need a young pacy and strong mid to add in 2024 and for future years.
  21. I believe we should be doing everything to win the 2025 and 2026 Flags. imagine if we could win especially in 2026 on an anniversary year. One for the ages.
  22. Ridiculous comment Von. who cares where you finish if you don’t win the flag? Just think about your comment. 2nd or 10th or 18th??? Of course fans care probably 80/90%. Enough said you are either just saying it or I really can’t understand your logic.

    Not really thst good
  24. Larger than Newcastle or Gold Coast? Very interesting views from all on this topic.! in any comparison Goody is not in the same class as Chris Scott. Scott has the AFL winning % over all Clubs 2011 to 2024 at the high 60’s. Finals are a different judgement and 50% plus is a great achievement. One of the similarities of both coaches is they have a very stubborn streak. Geelong’s game plan while successful home and away stalled over finals for a decade as they played a stop start defensive style. Amazingly Scott changed style in early 20’s and younger tyros replaced 30plus recruits and the need for speed was the mantra. Bingo all systems go and a flag after a decade of disappointment. Goody on the other hand was given a soft start under Paul Roos in 2016 as an assistant operating on match day. Improvement continued based on Roos defensive mantra. But he started to develop other strings to our now and importantly Clarry joined Trac and Maxy was recognised as one of the leading ruckman in the business. A pivotal win over Hawthorn near the end of 2016 prompted Brisbane champ Jonathon Brown to predict that we had a potential premiership midfield. Five seasons later in 2021 his remarks proved prophetic and under Goody we saluted after 57 years. We handled the Covid epidemic best of all and the group and hub conditions were positively embraced and it was harder to win this flag due to the pandemic and unpredictability of the draw transport and all the other conditions that prevailed. Interestingly the powerful but declining force in the WC Eagles failed to adjust and have had four years of a remarkable bottom ladder positions and a culture of losing injuries and seemingly no haste in trading or drafting out of its demise. Coach Adam Simpson was incredibly afforded No limit on the time for a serious reload. He fell on his own sword after the Dees thrashed the Eagles by 55 points after a listless display mid season. No coach replacement has been appointed to date with about two thirds of original applicants declaring their lack of intent for the job, which now has only 3 genuine contenders apparently. Back to Goody and an unlucky 9th in 2017, exciting return to Finals in 2018 with a very aggressive running plan, perishing in Perth by West Coast at prelim stage, Onto 2019 with an astounding run of surgeries pre season and injuries saw us slip to 17th with only 5 wins followed by a Covid affected shortened 2020 with hubs in Qld coinciding with our 9-8 win formula. Our defence showed great promise near the end if the season after elite recruiting of Lever and May along with previously the winger from the west Ed Langdon and recycled tall forward BBB from the Kangas. We all know 2021 to 2024. Goody has downbedded our style to contest and defence which served well in the earlier times but the clock of forwards and a reliable system has harmed our chances of further success in the past 3 seasons. Injuries have not helped either. 2025 is a crucial season for our Club to regain our football excitement and our enjoyment for the contest. It will determine Goody’s future as our Coach. The recent Club matters of culture and Board instability are not assisting our infield chances of success however our integrated training and administration base may well be finally nearer to happening by this decade or a couple of years earlier is the biggest event this decade that will boost our Club to a united and strong Club standing with all other Clibs who have enjoyed their bases in the modern era this century.

I have thought about Pert’s comment and I believe he could well have probably meant this that Melbourne’s culture was the best at our Club for 40 years. Only issue is that he may have also just said ā€œbest culture he has seen in 40 yearsā€. He has made no attempt to clarify his remark though at all. Just a chance he fluffed his line.
