  1. Didn't want to derail the sad Brayshaw thread, but thought a different thread would be best to discuss squad ramifications - That thread is deserving of 100% Gus kudos/ Some longer term cap relief may help us snare a big fish but in the short term what can we do? I'm not exactly 100% of the rules of what we can do and the dates for brining players in etc. Can someone in the know clarify. And also given our list what should we be looking to add at this stage if we can, or best to wait until mid-season? (Admin/Mods - Delete this part if appropriate (sorry in advance) - if a certain other player does get a lengthy ban, are we able to sign a top-up for 2024?)
  2. So sad but it's probably for the best for his health. An Integral part of 2021. Deleted and re-written a few things about Maynard but hopefully this thread can focus on Gus' positive impact on the field for us.
  3. Love reading the positives posts about Billings, have high hopes for him this season. Think he'll enjoy being part of this set up too. Low key addition who could play a key role.
  4. Always risky improving another contender but also need to judge how we go with list management and salary spending (Given we've cleared space moving him on etc).
  5. I know some were critical of re-signing him, but given the question marks over some of the others long-term fitness, glad he's still on the books given what has occurred. Definitely Last Chance Saloon him - but could be integral early in the season (if he can perform etc)
  6. I'll just post his "issues" with the concept. Here are a few blatant wrinkles in a liberal mid-year trading system that emulates overseas sports: Assuming there’s little restriction on who you can trade, clubs down the ladder, e.g. Carlton last year, have greater incentive to give up on the season and effectively tank. This flies in the face of the equalisation that has made the AFL more appealing. The teams higher on the ladder would enhance their position if they can a) acquire a key player that redresses immediate need and b) can get the vendor to pay a portion of that season’s contract. Integrity. The fixture will always be compromised, but is it right to cop, say, Richmond with Tom Lynch in round six – and then your top eight/four rival gets the Tigers without him in round 18? Not because he’s injured/suspended, but since he’s playing for Collingwood or Sydney by then? Players and their agents could ruthlessly exploit a mid-year trade threat: “I want to go to Geelong and get there now (Cats are thereabouts). Or sign me on a $6 million deal now.” Predatory clubs will get in the ear of players to push for an immediate trade. Geographic disadvantage. Victorian clubs can gain players from nine teams in the same state. Is a gun player, with kids, willing to uproot his life and move to Queensland or Adelaide?
  7. Perhaps some people are downgrading us as they are uncertain to what degree Oliver may play. Injuries and bad kicking cost us in the finals. I've got that optimism from the players we've brought in (drafted/traded) The Window is definitely open but i think the current state of the league is a house with many windows unfortunately. Adelaide will continue to improve, GWS were rampant in the 2nd half of the season, Sydney have added well and should have a better season. Who knows what Carlton are capable of with a harder draw.
  8. This Chromecast or the Chromecast with Google TV? (one with the apps etc).
  9. What TV you rocking Picket? Will be picking up a 65' OLED this year hopefully.
  10. Digital Membership at the moment is $250 and includes KAYO Basic which is the 4K option. Imagine this will increase next year. If you signed up to KAYO for the footy season and then cancel at the end of September you'll be paying $245 (7x$35) if you want the 4K option/2 Stream option. May as take advantage of the digital membership for those extra months - as you also get that 40% off voucher to use at the Demon Shop (valid for one transaction). The drop in concurrent streams is a little cheeky those in streaming conglomerates though
  11. What I want to know, is why Goody always wears visors, surely a cap is the more SunSmart option for a man with a shaved head. Asking the important questions as we cap the year off. (Pun not originally intended)
  12. Some interesting stories here, mine not so interesting. As a young lad I knew I lived in Melbourne, found out there was a team called Melbourne and decided that was for me - that's it aha.
  13. Sparrow can definitely roost a ball off minimal steps. Love that about him.
  14. Yeh understandable just curious about a Brisbanite POV and the mention of legacy benefit. Lots of politicians jumped on the Matildas with the Women's World Cup for photo opportunities and what not but now that train has left the station it's all very quiet. Brisbane could definitely do with one though
  15. Hi Demon Fred Spofforth - Out of interest - Brisbane still needs that boutique rectangular stadium - where would that sit on the priority queue?
  16. North Melbourne offered up two picks in the teens, Essendon was willing to part with its future first-rounder or picks 9 and 31, Hawthorn was willing to trade its future first and West Coast had its coveted 2024 first dangling. But Adelaide's offer of picks 10, 14 and a future second-rounder trumped the lot. https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/38946365/afl-draft-2023-trades-shaped-first-round-essendon-dodoro-gws-giants-adelaide-crows
  17. ESPN had us as C-, the same as Richmond. 2 Picks first round picks vs 2 picks in the 40s?
  18. As a result of Jaguar leaving I can confirm the next car I buy will NOT be a Jaguar. Purely out of respect to MFC and not due to my sad looking bank account aha

  20. at least it doesn't seem like we need to tune into Night 2.
  21. Some of the Phantom Drafts have Jed Walter at 3, others at 4. Any reason they think North won't bid at #2 ? GC surely want the kid so it'll be matched. I know doesn't really impact us, but still a bit confused.
  22. Fox Sports - Order of Fixture Difficulty (Easiest to Hardest) 1. Gold Coast Suns 2. North Melbourne 3. West Coast Eagles 4. St Kilda 5. Geelong 6. Richmond 7. Fremantle 8. Essendon 9. 23. Gold Coast in August might be a nice little weekender
