  1. Not that it would happen, but it would be funny to replace a coach accused of wasting a golden era with another coach accused of wasting a golden era.
  2. Tucked at the bottom of this article about Trac https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-2024-reports-of-discontent-from-christian-petraccas-family-surprising-to-coach/news-story/e496e9721e3e27562c2aeffecf151cf2 Goodwin said No.13 pick Koltyn Tholstrup would be strongly considered to replace Petracca after he was sent back to the VFL following a difficult debut as a permanent forward in the round 5 loss to Brisbane. The 186cm prospect had 29 disposals, five tackles and kicked 1.2 playing through the midfield in a heavy VFL win over Collingwood before the bye. “We’ll bring a player in and expand some players’ roles to try and fill that void. It’s not about just one player, it’s about a team, it’s about a method and it’s about the collective, and that’s what we need to do – be really tight, united and forge our season ahead,” Goodwin said. “(Tholstrup) has progressed really strongly in the VFL. He’s certainly gone back and developed his game from a midfield perspective and also forward of centre. “He’s someone we’ll look at really closely. He’s a high draft pick with high talent, he gives enormous effort, he’s tough, so he’s someone that we’ll certainly look at.” Goodwin confirmed in-form key defender Adam Tomlinson would return against North Melbourne on Saturday night after he was left out of the King’s Birthday game to field a smaller backline.
  3. Potential changes being floated by list bosses include: - teams being able to match bids for Next Generation Academy players after pick 20, rather than after pick 40, or even no limitation at all like the Jamarra Ugle-Hagan draft; - reduced discounts for father-son bid matching; - limitations on how many picks can be used to match a bid; - a reduction in how many picks have a points value, instead of the current system where selections all the way down to pick 73 are valued. I don't mind the last two, some clubs have extracted the urine last few years. But timing will no doubt be cruel to us.
  4. TBF we were unlucky with injuries (Trenners) and expansion clubs (Scully) for those 2. That being said we retrieved compensation picks for losing Scully, traded for Dominic Barry and selected Jesse Hogan. The Dockers acquired Hogan and pick 65 from Melbourne in exchange for picks 6 and 23. Then we eventually traded Pick 6 for May and Kade Kolodjashnij. So In theory, drafting Scully helped get us the flag so can't be too angry at the recruiters 😀
  5. See i am in 2 minds about this. Dr Peter Brukner a person with medical training was not overly critical of the decision of him going back on, He said the diagnosis is hard to make initially and praised us for making the call when it seemingly got worse. But I a person with no medical training sent a msg to a friend saying "I think Trac is dead" as he was slowly making his way off the field. You could tell he was in a bad way.
  6. https://www.afl.com.au/news/1153888/club-tpp-relief-due-to-a-player-retiring-from-concussion That's the official wording, Can someone explain point 1 to me in respect to Gus. TPP Relief for AFL players In summary, for AFL players there are two features of the TPP relief provided for in the Guidelines: The ability to amortise the negotiated financial settlement with the player over the period of Standard Playing Contract in alignment with the contracted payment terms. Maximum thresholds of TPP relief in the three years following the year of retirement: In the year immediately following the year of the retirement (Year 1) - Max Threshold: 90% In the second year following the year of the retirement (Year 2), Year 2 Max Threshold: 75% In the third year following the year of the retirement (Year 3), Year 3 Max Threshold: 50% No relief will generally be provided with regards to TPP commitments that extend four years or longer following the year of retirement. Clubs should ensure that this is appropriately factored into the risk assessment processes undertaken for player contracts that extend over four years. The Guidelines are only applicable in the specific circumstance of retirement occurring subject to a recommendation being made by the AFL Concussion Panel. Retirements due to other injuries, or decisions made unilaterally by the Player or the Club, will be subject to existing TPP assessment rules. The Guidelines do not provide a guarantee of TPP relief being provided with regards to any specific concussion-related retirement event. The provision of TPP relief is at the complete discretion of the Concussion TPP Committee with consideration given to the terms of the relevant contract and the circumstances of each eligible retirement, and subject to the maximum thresholds approved. Also this lined irked me Clubs should ensure that this is appropriately factored into the risk assessment processes undertaken for player contracts that extend over four years. Yeh lets build a time machine and go back to contract negotiations cos the rule wasn't around when then, ya pelicans
  7. Think Max would have been too inaccurate for that. It was a calculated risk to bringing Grundy in and they swiftly ended the experiment at no real win/loss apart from strengthening a rival. One thing I like about Soccer transfers is the $ value portion can vary if a player hits certain milestones (either team or player based), obviously very difficult to do in AFL with trades, but wonder if we'll ever have some sort of conditional trading in the AFL - EG - Player traded for 2nd round but in the event player makes AA Squad or team wins flag the pick upgraded to first round. I know it's overcomplicating things, just a Monday ponder.
  8. 18.2 atm and one of those was rushed. Thought these freak performances were usually reserved for games against us
  9. Just watching Chol, did we even ask the question. Seems to take marks, tackle and score goals everytime I watch a hawthorn game. assume we didn’t show interest cos a certain someone hadn’t been suspended yet?
  10. I'm hoping the last game of the season has some ramifications for them and we can hurt them with a victory.
  11. Most definitely, very little has gone right
  12. "Thankful for all the love and support I’ve received these past few days. While my season may have come to an end, I’m grateful I still have the opportunity to give it my all again in 2025. In the meantime, Ill be cheering the boys on from the sidelines and making some tasty meals in the kitchen" His Insta post
  13. Pretty sure Lamb said Fullarton was a back up forward/ruck. Somehow fan expectations may have changed along the way. I assume they'd rather play JvR and Petty (Probably Smith as well) ahead of him. Do think we should give him a go, see how he goes.
  14. Geelong. It's a funny game at times isn't it knee to the back of the head in a ruck contest, nothing to see here Palm to the face, free kick.
  15. Out: Bull (Petracca) In: Calves (Kolt & Sestan)
  16. Had high hopes for Billings, thought he may prosper in a new environment. Will give him a little bit of benefit of the doubt because we're not the most cohesive unit at present but fella needs to lift. On this evidence not sure we'll see much of him in 2025.
  17. Kade currently on 55 tackles in 13 games this season, 4th highest at the club. Last year he had 60 the entire season. There are still others i'd be dropping before him.
  18. https://www.afl.com.au/news/1149882/catch-em-if-you-can-is-footys-boldest-weapon-back-in-vogue The round's final game saw one of the tightest tagging jobs of the lot, with Demon Alex Neal-Bullen going straight to Collingwood matchwinner Nick Daicos from the first bounce. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin declared the match-up pre-game and saw his midfielder go with Daicos until the Magpie was substituted out of the game in the last term with a shin injury. To that point, Daicos and Neal-Bullen had been locked in a battle for 81 minutes, seeing Daicos gather 14 disposals, six uncontested possessions and a goal – down on his average of 32 disposals and 17 uncontested possessions. Neal-Bullen's Demons were the only team of the four to deploy hard-line tags not to be winners in their respective games, with the cost-benefit, such as midfield structure and the defensive running of other midfielders, always needing to be taken into account by clubs who decide on the tight-checking roles. For instance, with the focus on Daicos, teammate Jack Crisp played one of the best midfield games of his season.
  19. Working out the coach split relatively easy for those single votes
  20. So we started the season with Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Sparrow as our options. Now a mixture of regression, retirements and injury we're faced with a little short term conundrum. If Trac is out for a little, what would you like to see the FD do? And what do you think they'll realistically do.
  21. It basically took him the entire quarter break to get off the field. Was stopping every few steps and looked like he was in pure agony. Was shocked when he came back out.
  22. Curious a few people wanting to delist Spargo. Wasn't long ago he was the best mark rate from kicks inside 50 in the league. Surely there is a place for that in the team? Unless you want to use him for trade collateral?
  23. Would like to see Tholstrup, Woey and AMW in the team next game. Think it's worth testing Fullarton out against North, he was signed as back up.. but i'm sure he'd be doing Petty/Turner numbers in this team. Would keep JvR forward too. Sestan must be getting closer - Does he have the tank?
  24. Yes but this isn't the wild west anymore. I like all my sporting teams (not just the dees) to compete like beasts but to be hard and fair. Last 2 weeks they've not done very well with that. Focus on the game not a vendetta.
