Simon Goodwin Coaching Record
I think itâs little wonder that the âsoccerâ coaches are called managers, not coaches. Because thatâs what they do - manage. From what I can gather, AFL coaches are really not coaches as they were in say the Norm Smith era, they are now managers. They have to manage the gaggle of assistant coaches (who really do the direct coaching of the players), the support staff as well as the players. And in our case, we have someone (Richo) overseeing Goody and the whole process. (Smithy would have loved that!). The point Iâm leading to is that the coach doesnât win a club a premiership,, he is simply one (important) cog helping to manage the collective parts making up the whole. Therefore to say that one modern era coach is better than another because they win a premiership is, I believe, no longer an accurate statement. What you can say is that in 2021, the MFC was the best Club as a whole, not that Goody necessarily was a better coach than Bevo.

Negative Posting Apology Thread
Came on here to see if the facepalm posters to my 3/4 time post that "we could still win this game" had the courage to put their hand up - but sadly they haven't. But there is plenty of time yet ......

English teachers and grammarians will say that "could care less" is wrong because it should mean the opposite of "couldn't care less." Logically, if you could care less, it means you do care some. But in informal speech people often use "could care less" to mean they donât care at all. "Couldnât care less" and "could care less" are both used to mean someone doesnât care at all, but English teachers and grammarians will say that only "couldn't care less" is correct, so that is what you should use in formal or academic writing.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs St Kilda
Winners, sorry if you didnât realise I was having a joke. (My fault I guess). I luv WCW and would not deliberately offend her. Have a look at the so called derogatory comment I made to WCW. I said âhaha they will never get you off the fieldâ. WCW even offered a laughing emoji to my post. I have also used the word âderangedâ in a number of posts to her. It has been used in jest on every occasion. Iâm pretty sure she would have PMâd me if she found my use of that word offensive previously. I do like the fact that WCW is held in such high regard on this site that she has a white knight coming to her defence. Iâm sure, if she sees this, that she would appreciate the comment you made.

The No T$ No B$ Thread
Thanks WCW, i know all the reasons why he didn't get recalled, and I also understand the backlash Cummins probably would have received from some quarters in Australia if he had been recalled and we'd lost. However, i think Cummins' decision enraged Ben Stokes in particular, and because of this, I very much doubt we would have seen his magnificent innings - which would have been a tragedy - had Bairstow been recalled. I also think the boys are going to be in for a very hard time next test, both in the way the Poms will play it, and how the supporters will react to our team. I certainly hope we win this test convincingly for our own sake. However, it will not surprise me if we actually lose this test.

The No T$ No B$ Thread
Despite Australia acting within the rules and in spite of all the hypocritical in-hindsight whinging spewing from the English players and their coach, I think there was a great opportunity lost by Australia in this whole episode. Australia donât have the greatest reputation for fair play - think sandpaper gate and underarm bowling as two prime examples. Given this was an Ashes test, at the very home of cricket, Cummins, and this Australian team, would have covered themselves in glory if Bairstow had been recalled, and our reputation under this new Cummins reign would have been enhanced no matter the outcome of the game. I have to admit that watching it live, the dismissal did not sit well with me.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Jaded, this is exactly what our football department believe. Our Pres recently stated this, saying something similar to â their belief is that we are unlikely to see the quality of football we played at the end of â21 again in our lifetimeâ. Disappointing to hear, but certainly doesnât mean we cannot win another premiership, within this current window, with a less perfect scenario.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs Geelong
Titan, I appreciate that both you and Binman have gone to great lengths to explain your positions. Neither position is âfoolishâ as none of us are privy to the real answer. All I know is that we have lost 4 or 5 games this year because we have played poor quality football - for whatever reason, be it dumb wet weather football, poor selections, poor game management, or just poor execution of skills - and I am sick of it and we need to be much better than that. This âloadingâ may influence some of the reasons listed above, but only some. These are professional athletes that train to execute their skills under pressure and when fatigued, and under both dry and wet weather conditions. There just is no excuse for poor skills or dumb wet weather football. None.

PREGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
This is the team Iâd like to play with next week: B. Lever, Tomlinson, McVee HB. Rivers, Petty, Salem C. Langdon, Petracca, Hunter HF. Bowey, JVR, Fritsch F. Smith, May, Pickett R. Gawn, Oliver, Viney Int. Grundy, Brayshaw, Sparrow, Chandler Sub. D. Turner Tommo thoroughly deserves a recall (and shouldnât have been dropped). Petty stays back and will be better for the run(couldnât be worse!). The club believe he will become a better player than May, so has to stay back. Hibbo managed and have assumed Oliver is ok. The big call is to play May forward. I think he could be our answer to some of our forward line issues - particularly if Tomo and Petty are able to perform down back. I could be wrong but I have little faith that BBB will be an answer for us. Also time to see what our side looks like without ANB and Spargo. Both have not earned their spot for some weeks now, and itâs time they found their form at Casey. Disco has earned a call up and have him as the sub.
