Crazy things you’ve done as a Demons supporter
DaveyDee replied to Cassiew's topic in Melbourne Demons
I used to go to every game we played for the first time at an oval for premiership points - never forget the first game we ever played at Subiaco, they hated us for just being Victorian - never forget the first game we played at Footy Park in SA, 11 hour drive, Round 2 1991 OMG I genuinely feared for my life and Crows won the game. -

I might even call in myself - bloke you could consider getting on is Smithy and talk about the mark of the century - plus what is like to be the father of a player and what are the differences. -
Time to get rid of the "sooks" once and for all - Well done Dees that was fun to watch.
-
Maybe worth considering another way to look at it - Exciting really, but sport has now become totally professional, where business forces work for collective and individual enrichment of the whole game. Where all stakeholders i.e. players, coaches, umpires, administrators etc concerned are properly financially rewarded.
-
Seriously, are you sure you are in the right forum? I'm loving your contribution, keep up the outstanding work. You are a refreshing change. All the best & Go Dees

I'm confident we will get a deal done if Ollie elects to leave SA - but with a huge emphasis on the if.

I enjoyed watching some of the kids get a fair crack at some game-time - not sure if this format is 100% right yet for Australian markets, still some tinkering needs to be done. However, certainly looks like the best product we have ever had for the export markets. I could see during finals times teams that dont make finals - play this game on an international level to promote the game. Im looking forward to watching how our kids perform tonight.

Don Scotts ratings are a tad outdated for obvious reasons. However, his principles hold true. We smashed the bookies, over 3 sports, over a 5-6 year period. We had professional analysis's in each sport & a database/price computer team. So much so we ended up working/partnership with certain companies in their price assessments we even happily took part of the exposure. So you are up against the professionals - You need to work your butts off or over the long run you will just be "another mug punter".
-
You guys need to get yourself a copy of the best book ever written on horse racing - Winning More by the legendary Legal Eagle - Don Scott ( not Don Scott of footy fame ) He will help with your multiple betting options and even more importantly how to frame a market to maximise returns. I've sold my business in this sector. But if I was ever looking to get back into this sector I would look at Tennis Betting.

The beautiful thing is I doubt it is going to be about returning to Victoria or the money.

All the more reason to stay positive at all times. You might actually be helping the club by just that little act alone - remaining positive when others wont. Go Dees
-
Well said plus they have Boak, Polec, Gray & Westoff up - they have bet the farm. Good luck to them - they might need it.
-
You have to ignore Chazz he has no idea what he is talking about. Both Rockliff & Motlop netted 1st Round compensation picks to their original clubs so you are right they did come at a premium in salary cap space. Watts we moved on to help clean up space in 2019 cap - there are a few very interesting options on the table at the end of this year. Could be a very interesting time ahead in the player movement space for a relatively young and up & coming list - our timing could well be impeccable for once. Much will depend on Ports on-field performance ie How deep, deep they go into September
-
You dont know that. Its a straight out guess. Best way to do that is stay positive at all times & ignore the negativity by some on Demonland. MFC have some of the best supporters in the AFL they have proved their resilience year after year.

We had a fair crack at Ollie last time he was out of contract. Think he knows we are interested. Kid can win his own football and thats the key criteria you need in todays game. This time its also a little different, Port have bet the farm on Watts, Motlop & Rockliff, we are an up & coming force. Plus last time when in negotiations I got the feeling - Ollie is not all about the $$$$. Port this time also have Boak, Polec, Westoff plus a few more big names up for debate. Much will come down to their on-field performance. Interesting times ahead - Can Port retain them all with a poor on-field performance.
-
Wonder if its possible that attitude still residues with some of our more "mature" supporters or have we knocked it out of them yet?
-
So much for the Collingwood game last year being the end of the world as some on Demonland where claiming. 200 down is nothing beat the Cats round 1 and we will eat those 200 for brunch.
-
Wont happen a Victorian club is far more likely to be relocated and I doubt it will be Hawks or North both have rejected it previously. There are a few big projects being discussed behind the scenes & you have to wait till they get resolved prior to forcing a team to Tasmania.

AFLX is coming (the X makes it sound cool)
DaveyDee replied to Ethan Tremblay's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm looking forward to the games. Think the biggest benefit for the clubs will be the ability to fast track the development of the younger kids and new recruits on your list. We will really get to see how they handle the pace and pressure under match conditions. Hope a few of the elite players embrace the concept and we can take the opportunity to let the kids match up on these elite players and learn a few tricks. -

Not a problem then we agree to disagree. I'm can live with the current arrangement with the AFL - no whinging, no whining, no comments regarding fairness/unfairness. Think I need to clarify my points. I have no problem with a draft I have no problem with a salary cap. I support the theory that the path to equalisation is thru large investments inside your football department to maximise the players opportunity to reach for their best irrespective of how they arrived at the MFC. I support the theory that the MFC needs to become a career option not just a playing option. Sorry, I dont work for the AFL - but are more than happy to support them and appreciate the support they have given us. Happy to take the good with the bad - we live in a 18 team national competition.
-
Cheers thanks for clarifiy your points. Just lets clear up one point - the salary cap is only an equalisation tool if you pay 100% - think I've been clear about that. I have no problems with a salary cap. All the best
-
Not a problem you are more than entitled to your opinion. I hold the opinion you trade your way to a premiership you dont draft your way to a premiership - each to their own.
-
If I told you the answer to that you might not like it - far be it from me to say why we play home games in NT against SA clubs. We are an up & coming team thanks to our commitment to player development and welfare via increasing investment into our Footy department- everything we now do is centered around every player reaching their full potential at the MFC irrespective of how they arrived at our club. We support all our players past and present and offer the MFC as a career option not just a playing option. We no longer care who we play, where we play them & what we wear - the past history has no influence on our current playing group. Yes, you read right our history is meaningless. We have an AFL approved CEO & AFL approved board - no elections needed - we enjoy the full support of the AFL and that is 100% reciprocal. We have a very bright future - Go Dees
-
As Peter Jackson has said on numerous occasions - you earn your own fixture. We no longer whinge and whine about a fixture as a club. Nothing to do with charity - quite the opposite. We should be proud of ANZAC day eve - its a huge achievement. We work in partnership with the Tigers to create a win-win blockbuster. I have no problem with a one-eyed approach or a us against them mentality - but in reality you have to work with the wider AFL community to get the best results for all.
