My 3 word player analysis V Essendon
Just imagine how Brown might be playing with more games under his belt this season.

Time to have a talk about Jayden
Other than being played out of position for too long by Goodwin, and as a 'fill-gap' player at that with useless 'mates of Goodwin' occupying slots without meaningful returns for the regular selections, it is my firm belief that the alleged 'game plan - brand - lessons learned - contested horse droppings' of the coach have worked badly to ruin his game, opportunities and match readiness, as well as those of so many of his teammates. Goodwin's preference, longer-term, for Hunt has been to keep him at a distance from the team to act as 'available depth' . Hunt produces excellent space-oriented plays, runs like the wind, carries the ball very quickly and bounces without fault, kicks like Aaron Davey could over distance and in shorter passes, with tremendous accuracy across the averages. Can't get a game....

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
Clearly in the wrong positions and that is more than a tragedy because different positions have different roles and responsibilities to adopt - for however long - at the will of Goodwin. We have had him in the Club for some years now, where we have evaluated his skillset time and again in the main team. He is very effective and reliable when played correctly positioned, adding immense pace and kicking skills - including all-day running - to an improving forward line (or at least one that is stabilising) - yet Goodwin uses him expectantly as a 'gap filler' but more often as 'residual, non-playing depth' since his 'mates' keep getting games, somewhere onfield. One injury, short-term, fully recovered for most of this season, as well. A terrific Clubman. Not bloody good enough. How many of the many close matches in hindsight might we have won this year with him in the team, locked into his best position and roving around as he can? Drop Goodwin, retain and use our talents. Simple.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
Yet another example in a bad year or a bad series of bad selections that many of us were screaming about. It was obvious, two games and he has his mojo back again - a valuable player. The chosen reflection, week after week, against OUR will was the Weed - who still is not producing. Then Dl contributors see Weed kick two goals in a single game - a massive contribution - and suddenly he's a star quality earning a guernsey to look busy but do nothing really, in a sinecure, week after week.

GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Essendon
True dilemma, Bbo, true dilemma. Are the chiefs at the MFC and the coaching array going to review themselves? No way, it's too cushy a job as it currently stands. If a review is done, it will be through the appointment of several compatriot mates and its outcome will be a whitewash of complicity and further neglect, to be sustained at all costs for as long as possible. Given the way that the AFL conduct themselves in matters of appointments and responsibilities for the paying public and fans across all clubs (except the Filth and the Catty Puts), such a review at the MFC will be condoned, allegedly honoured and totally situated (ie: the outcome could accurately be predicted to be ' more of the same' and 'abstractly irrelevant' to real improvements in the mighty MFC. The big questions and issues will not even be tabled, let alone investigated or modified for moving forward. We already know what will and won't be achieved, well ahead of such a 'review for improvements and change' even begins. As fans, we are born losers.

TEAMS: Rd 18 vs Essendon
ANB may well end up out-running as a tag on Tipungwuti. He has the recovery and endurance if he is quick off the mark - ie: not chasing from afar. The team is picked but I'd expect it to be variable with several players doing tasks unexpectedly. As part of this, I'd like to see Smith rotating (with someone across the game) into the forward line for some goal kicking-practice or an intercept mark and feed, for example. He'd be handy doing that if we make the finals.

I'd reckon Smith had to be in the side, so he could rotate, slipping forward for an intercept and goal or two.

Jackson is a surprise omission but fair enough, he should not be risked this late in case we win against Essendrug.

Membership Renewal emails from the club...
So, it's an unnecessary shambles, just like the rest of the Club at present. I will not renew my Membership (and will tell them so) until Goodwin is removed from the Club. As for Pert, overseeing this fee confusion and approving its release to the public and existing members, he'd better trot off the face of the MFC, as well. I feel sorry for the poor folks at the Membership office; they will be confronted with continuous and fully justified queries for months, Want a Membership? It costs this much for 2021. Payment can be made by credit card/debit card at the following telephone number or in person, at the Club located at XYZ between 0900 - 1700 hrs. Seem pill.

Charles Spargo - A Grade Small Defender (2021 Edition)
Spargo is not the answer down back. What we need is a 190cm racehorse (remember Osborne?) with muscle, mongrel and two good kicking feet. Spargo needs to rove the fwd line when selected.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Spot on! He also finds targets across distances and has great run and carry.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Ross Dillon was a great forward and a master of the chf region. He went back to Adelaide and continued to 'star' at a time when the SA teams were rolling with great coaches, players and multiple club developments. Cordner was 'good' but not at the same level as his ancestry. He never seemed to work 'hard enough' to progress, yet he certainly had talent - it was just lightly applied. Darren Bennett - I considered him to be the classic forward. An amazing, straight- line lead exponent, a huge man who used his body to perfection against opponents including his locomotive appearance and presence in a pack, and possibly one of the best kicks for goal around at distances between 45 and 60 metres out. Largely ignored at the arrival of Jacovich and his unique style - and effectiveness - but Bennett, what a player to have in reserve! Bennett and Tilbrook, the best kicks ever (with other flaws).

I get the reasoning; seems sound and strong, to me.

CHANGES: Rd 18 vs Essendon
There are a range of other assets with Lewis. He knows the modern game and how to win. He is an exceptional communicator in football terms, and highly adaptable across the theories of the game. He showed this for years, honing his skills whilst he still could and when these began to wane at the time of his transfer to the MFC, he taught others, he organised onfield and off the field, he communicated. Pure talent. I'd love to see him replace Goodwin - ASAP. Would he bite at the hook?

Jack Gunston
K' noath! Sadly true. Those levels of skills, combined, do not linger, long. It will be a rapid sunset, most likely. He ain't no Jordan Lewis, either.

TMac on the Trade Table?
NOrth act in form slump desperation. Why on earth would North ever drop Pedersen?
-
TMac on the Trade Table?
It is very likely that the acquisition of Polec, a very good player on his day, will suit him immensely - and suit the style of game that our coaching wizards are trying to instil in our team. He gets the ball, has run and carry, and kicks effectively with a pre-disposed, upfield eye.
-
TMac on the Trade Table?
Should he depart, there is another bonus. OMac won't get game and will have to leave, too.

Trent Rivers Rising Star?
Heart in mouth, maybe with more experience and some excellent development and encouragement, we may have another Hardeman coming along. For me, Gary was the best CHB I have ever seen, and since then, we have had quite a few greats in that position. He is not a Neitz, but smaller like Hardeman and has that poise coming along, nicely.
-
Jeremy Cameron
That is a very fair price, with the added bonus of getting a good forward.

Mumford Fined For Punching Gawn
I used to love watching Grinter, Biffin, Ditterich, Pickett and Vanders dedicate their football efforts to the mighty MFC against all comers. We were penalised heavily then, and penalised now for any excuse that the AFL weak-links can come up with. However, I'd still like to see a little more 'mongrel' in our team these days, rather than being generally swept aside or bashed to death at critical points of a game. We need to make a science of the mongrel plays - of particular note in this regard was Neitz. Now that man was subtle but ever so effective.
