Big gamble.

Yep, putting the orange rinds in the rubbish bin after quarter time, and licking Goody's boots to earn more Goody points. He is also in the team so that Harmes, playing out of position, works harder than ever for the team; and Salem, playing out of position, works just as hard to back-up Harmes whilst OMac is still getting to the contest.

Almost the speediest opposition this year - all go in with a grunt this season - linkages well drilled all over the field - some very bold players with absolute desire for the ball - talent abounds. Gawn still should not be playing (risked). We have the counter: OMac. Goodwin will need to absorb the learnings in this selected team. Players all over the ground out of position - denied their opportunities to shine. Stop gaps everywhere. Shheeeesh! P2J: See ya in '21. This season is over.

Reality bites!

Just a sign of balance, that's all. Hate Goodwin, animosity for Pert, total loathing of the progress of our Club, and a great dislike for the footballing styles of TMac, and OMac.

He has talent, when fit and keen. He is a lightweight - quite fast with good ball skills and kicking. Very useful on the outside to collect/receive, run and carry, and disposal is good. Terrible contract that his current club would not want to 'pay out' should he be transferred. Interesting, coz he ain't as good this year as he was - but the are a few years in him. Overall, no thanks. Begging the question, why cannot the MFC develop similar types in our own backyard - we start 'em early and soon say goodbye - and like an ant nest there is a flurry of similar types all bustling to be productive and competitive within the home base? We currently have quite a few of these (with muscle and pace) just ready for the opportunities of a professional football career and related development. We lack the capacity to develop consistent and improving footballers.

At least get a handle for social media within strict libel laws, once sent.

That idea of Viney on the forward line, applying decent levels of forward-defensive pressure, almost 'must' start occurring. We can add another prowler of the stunted variety in the forward set-up, as well, and there are a few of these from which to choose. The midfield centre is crowded, as it is; there is no real space for an inside midfielder to rapidly become an outside-mid after the bounce. These guys (Tracca, Oliver and Gus) must currently attempt to carry the ball out themselves and run into opposition brick walls - we lose possession and cannot chase the majority of clearances (quickly executed to set plans against Goodwin's ideas of perfect midfield execution). We have all seen Gawn tap down cleverly and the next thing, gather his own ball to execute a clearance kick. That is not his job. Jonesy used to do the evacuation from the tap - by exiting the centre by foot in possession of the ball. He did this for years, developing the long bomb the maximise the clearance, regretfully. This style became infectious for all of our midfielders, to our very great dismay. He (Jones) can no longer do this as often (the exiting) and we do not want the long bomb anymore. Viney does contribute to that congestion in the centre but if he was already moving outside variably, we have three talented midfielders in the mix to seek him out. Viney's best assets are so frequently related to his tackling; into the forward line, he could create excellent forward defensive pressure on opponent backmen, still move at good pace and take advantage of his kicking skills (to goal) with more effect from a closer range. With the congestion in the centre/midfield reduced, we have adequate numbers and skills to be more purposeful in obtaining possession and in the distribution to better effect into a mobile forward line. Three up, one back is more than adequate, plus it would strengthen our forward pressure and potency.

As good as it gets, I'm afraid. Stronger, just analysing the selections/positions.

Jordan Lewis would be my pick for coach of the MFC - asap.

Yes, agree that Fritta is an outside player - that's why he should be practising and mastering so many training goals and angular strategies every week for goalkicking reliability. He must score 2 out of every 3 to be any good. Someone mentioned earlier today that TMac got one goal and so in Goody's eyes, he is guaranteed a slot against the Saints. The problem is that the poster is correct. That is pathetic as it is but Goody seems to have turned Fritta into another '...p'raps he will, p'raps he won't...' type of forward.

Could be a timing thing with the lead to space; if it is, then it certainly is effective and unexpected by the opposition in so many of our recent games. Perhaps this is even more reason to ensure the Fritta can kick 'em reliably most times from such positioning, as well. Going central to the goalsquare has, for us at any rate, been an abysmal failure time and again. The more lethal were are across the entire forward line, the better our results. Maybe, Stage 1: Fritta finds spaces; Stage 2: Fritta gets the mark; Stage 3: Fritta goals from the HFF/BP/outside the boundary line/on the run from afar ... and there is only one way to be capable of these feats -- practice, practice, practice.

Smith is hungry ... talented ... under-developed ... ready. Goodwin, give him a go! TMac ain't the answer any more. Just because the McDonald brothers are taller than you, SG, as Coach, you should not be scared to give them the advice to move on.

That tally of '...being wasted in the backline...' on Goodwin's credit sheet affects the careers of two possible key players: Salem and Harmes. Meanwhile, Hunt is degenerating on the wooden plank, Smith has to sit to watch TMac stuff up continuously and several possible hot rockets with the pace of youth champ at the bit in readiness for an opportunity for which they are working very hard with immense patience. This list of poor management can easily be extended - to make matters worse - whereby effective players deteriorate out of position, out of favour and out of prudent development.

Early on in that first year, he nailed quite a few to suggest his technique was developing and that it would be a bonus in matches/years to come. Players of all abilities do get the Yips - but it seems that Fritta has hung around these Yips for too long. We all know that 2 - 3 lengthy practices of goal-shooting at every weekly training session, from all angles and mixed distances, is critical to reliable (at least far more reliable) scoring success for specialist forwards. If the Under 17s forwards do it and put it to good effect across the same distances and angles, then Fritta can do it, too. It has rapid benefits and at this point, Fritta needs to take that step. That he acquires the ball and takes some great marks is commendable. His conversions need to be 'reliable'.

That Fritta uses effective leads and non-giant opposition players' backs towards the flanks is regularly seen; it is a very good sign compared to the static forwards that have been around for some time at the MFC. Logic therefore dictates that he practices and develops techniques for effective goal-scoring kicks from those pockets or further out at the flanks, as most other successful forwards at other clubs do - and Fritta should have a little chat with Bennell and Hannan - whilst practising, to learn these skills. 'A' leads to 'B', leads to 'C' - goals for the team. We have the know-how, we have the personnel, we have the resources and we have the conceptual success foremost in our minds. We just do not develop such talents terribly well in our vital forward half. More goals is worth the effort, wouldn't you say?

Salem tends to slip under the radar quite a bit, this season. He does not really like a contest - be it physical or tackling opportunity. I'd reckon that his actual contribution has been minimal, as well. Sure, he can kick beautifully but his number of actual possessions is not quite what one might expect - this suggests that he needs to do more in order to win possessions. He also needs some readiness to play on rather than delay (a free, for example) and telegraph to the opposition his intended kick. I do not see Salem as a backman, although I concede that wiser heads so often do regard his backline work. Needs to be more active in the defensive gathering of the ball and its distribution.

Sort some of these, at least, we could expect. We needed Jones' on-field drive today - setting a competitive example albeit slower than previously in his career. He is still one of the best evasive, pack-departing ball carriers.

He's got the Yips, Mr Seaspray. Maybe one day it will work out better, more consistently but practice is everything in his routine.

When is Fritsch going to prepare for a match by kicking 300 practice goals at training each week? No rest until he nails 300 goals.

Yep, missed Salem's contribution as well. Get him out of the backline. Get Harmes out of the backline.
