Tingay,Prympke,Dean,Schwarz,Charles,Jakovitch and Clark. All broke down young.Help me, I think there are more. Hawthorn, Sydney, Essendon etc all get 300 games from their stars. I guess it helps to avoid injury if you're winning games. But it helps to win games when you have experienced stars. Not only do we lose stars young, but young high draft picks all get injured.(Blease, Strauss, Watts, Taggart, Gawn,Viney,....the list goes on.) Do all teams have these problems? Do I just notice it in the Demons because I follow them more closely?

In the Geelong /Adelaide game, the Cats had 2 chances to kick the winning goal from set shots in the last minute. When I saw Jimmy Bartel take a mark 15 m out on just worse than 45 degrees on his right foot, I thought...."game over". Then.....I saw him lining it up side on holding the ball to one side. I thought..."oh no, he'll miss this". Sure did...not even close. He's a a very reliable set shot with an orthodox kick, and should have done that. THEN....Skipper, Harry Taylor had another set shot, 15 m out on his left foot, with no time to go . Did he learn from Jimmy? No, he tried the check side banana and missed by 3 metres. He'd have gone a lot closer with a routine drop punt. If the angle is VERY tight(on the boundary), yes, you have to do a kick with a lot of bend in it. But these two potential match winning attempts were from angles not much more than 45 degrees. It cost the match.

I just turned on the TV to watch the match. Cale kicks a running goal from 50 m. The ball goes up the other end after the bounce. Cale is standing in the " hole" with the pack coming. He stands his ground gutsily and earns the free when he's crashed. Delivers it well to a team mate.

With dedication like yours, Scoop, I presume you ventured out on the Highway again yesterday to attend the Scorps game at the Avalon Airport Oval ,again in the rain.Did you remember the poncho this time? I'm ashamed I didn't make the trip to Kardinia Park.My excuses were:- 1/ Worried I'd fall asleep driving after being up till 3.30 watching the Test. 2/ No- one I rang wanted to go with me. 3/The amateurs team i support were playing at home in a vital game. BUT.....in the back of my mind I remembered the games down there in '06 and '07 for thrilling draw and a one point win. I'll never forget the joy of the train trip home those days. If you don't go to games where you expect to lose, you'll never have that terrific feeling of the surprise victory. I went down early last year partly to see Jack Vineys first reserves game, but he was pole axed before I got there! ps. Sometimes pneumonia takes a few days to develop!

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to timmyo64's topic in Melbourne Demons
A friend(knowledgable in Amateur Footy, only, as far as I know), whispered it confidently in my ear. I had no opportunity to question his sources. -
WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to timmyo64's topic in Melbourne Demons
Has anyone else on this thread mentioned the rumour I heard? Roos will coach the Dees, but ONLY if he has Tadgh(?spelling) Kennelly and Cameron Ling as assistants. -
I reckon there's an argument that Mike Pyke's "drop kick" goal was actually "incorrect disposal", ie holding the ball. If a player is tackled, and attempts to kick, but the ball hits the ground before his foot makes contact,(ie he drop kicks it), it's a free against him. Two players had hold of Pyke.

MCC Committee Candidates

Getting back to the topic........does anyone know anything about the candidates? -
MCC members have been sent their voting material for the annual committee election. Though it by no means guarantees any preferential treatment, I like the idea of having as many Demon supporters as possible on the Committee. There are 6 candidates for 2 vacancies. Tom Hudson, John Mugavin, Charles Sitch(Demon, ), Mark Smith, Chris Stoltz, and Stuart Stockdale. Stuart has been a terrific servant of the MCC, but is a Carlton supporter with no love of the MFC. If anyone knows of MFC affiliation of the other candidates, please could they make it known. It will influence my vote.

. With respect to Geelong's ground development, it didn't do any harm having the State Premier(Bracks) being a rabid Cats supporter. Also being allowed to host AFL games at a stadium that has held less than 25000(when they have 40000 members), so no opposition supporters fit in the place, makes for enormous home ground advantage. Playing Freo, Port etc there , compared to the MCG or Docklands , is a huge advantage. No wonder their recruits develop that confident, "winning culture" so quickly.

Did other Demonlanders notice his form for the Northern Blues on Saturday? I was pretty impressed with his strength and skill. He seems to exemplify the size and shape of the modern inside midfielder. Is there any way we could lure him from Carlton, who seem to have a surfeit of mids, admittedly ageing?

Sautner got a few! Remember him, Deanox?

Michael Evans out for 4 Weeks
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Little Richard's topic in Melbourne Demons
All Melbourne recruits get serious injuries. It's been going on for years. I'll bet he's out for months. Just when he was getting a few consecutive games up. At least it's not a broken leg , like Strauss and Blease. -
I' d like to have a word to the Pom selectors, and earnestly request them to include Jayde Dernbach in their Ashes squad. Leave out Jimmy Anderson and pick Jayde!!!!!!!!

Support at the Hawks June 2nd match - join in.

It was BOTH Giles and Smith, AND behind the play when he was being beaten. Don't forget his cowardly punch of Neil Mc Mullin. -
I reckon he's tried his guts out this year. Posters will say that'd be because he wants to raise interest from other clubs. Perhaps, but at least it's better than spitting the dummy like Moloney did last year.

I'm a bit worried about Sunday week.

both of them breaking a leg hasn't helped their development.

I thought Chris did pretty well today, but on two occasions when he received good passes, he stopped and waited for the ball, when he should have taken a few steps forward and met it.I was very disappointed to see a fairly experienced player make this basic mistake.I think they both resulted in probable 2 goal turn-arounds.I hope he's learnt from it.
