How much football have Demonland members played?
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
I still have dreams that I'm playing in footy matches(though I'm 64!) I'm always found wanting for intestinal fortitude in the dreams, but do jag the odd 6 pointer! -
How much football have Demonland members played?
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
I played for Uni Reds under legendary coach, Kenny Frencham(of "pair off in threes" fame). Our first year we were in the Metropolitan Football League, playing against Fawkner, Merlynston, Reservoir(before they joined the Ammos),Brunswick Districts, westgarth AllBlacks, etc They hated us Uni snobs and there were some pretty violent clashes. A few of my team mates were Demon supporters,Jim Smith, "Laughing"Alan hall, and Pat Smith( not the journo). I often wonder if any of my old team mates(or opponents) are Demonlanders. -
Mitch Clark has been remarkably accurate shooting for goal for the Demons.BUT..........I'm fearful that he will not continue to kick so straight. He has a marked hook-foot ,swinging across , rather than through, the ball. So far the timing of his connection with the ball has been excellent, and the ball has flown straight. There is very little margin for error. I hope like hell I'm wrong, and I pray we'll get 25 games out of him this year!

There's a rumour Grundy's back is troublesome. -

And what's Robbie Flower doing there?(back row 2nd from right) -
I know it's totally irrelevant, but David Mackay is from a dyed-in-the-wool Demon supporting family.I'm sure they'd be rapt if he played for us.

I hope this is right. No doubt Paul Roos has a high opinion of this guy. See my thread on him in this section, which raised little interest.
-
I guess Roos would be well aware of Smith's potential(or lack thereof). Does anyone know his contract status? Ï suppose Sydney would also be well aware of his potential as an inside midfielder, but they never seem to take him out of defence. ps "Demoneyes..".....sorry to wake you, please don't waste your valuable time reading this.
-
Are there any readers out there who agree with my suggestion that Nick Smith(no.40 for Sydney),could become an inside midfielder? He's not overtly fast, but he's strong ,creative, and has excellent disposal skills.
-
He's the opposite of 426. He plays every game.(and plays them well)
-
Nick Smith really impresses me at the Swans. It seems to me he's not really given the kudos , responsibility or promotion he deserves at Sydney. He has a defensive role seemingly in the full back line, where he always seems to do a good job. I think he shows the strength, skill and discipline to be a midfielder. Any chance Roos could tempt him across?

Michael Clark, son of Dennis...one game only. I don't think the question refers to old combinations(McKenzie, Dowsing, Bob Johnson, etc, but refers to father-sons under the recent 100 game rule.

I feel sorry for Troy Davis. Undoubtedly earned a senior spot after consistent performances in defence for Casey. Inexplicably plays deep forward for the firsts. Tries his guts out in the unfamiliar role with minimal opportunities. Dropped and forgotten. I hope he does well somewhere else. I reckon he might mirror Kyle Cheney's mighty effort as a fringe player in a ?premiership list.

Who will the delistings be?
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
I feel sorry for Davis. Earned his spot in the firsts after consistent efforts in defence for Casey. When he's promoted, it's into the forward line. That would have been difficult for any young defender. I don't know whether he's up to AFL standard as a defender. Neither do our selectors. -
WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Foundation Heroes Dinner
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
While he was CEO their deplorable governance was in evolution. Is it fair to implicate him in this? Can the CEO indicate to the Board that the governance is poor? Does he just accept that and do what they say? He certainly hasn't been shy in commenting on OUR governance in his role at the MFC. I hope and pray PJ is as good as everyone seems to assume he is. The MFC can't survive any more body blows. -
Rupturing his Achilles Tendon didn't help!

MCC Committee Candidates
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
MCC Committee election votes have to be in by next Monday 12th August. Have any Demonlanders heard any advice on who is likely to be best for the MFC? Probably Charles Sitch should get our vote. Other than that, perhaps the other member sitting for re-election, Mark Smith , should get our vote, since the current committee has been fairly sympathetic to the Dees. (as Tim suggests in the previous post) -
It is hard to watch. I've had a last language reprimand from my wife.
-
but he's sure playing well today!

Fitzy runs into open goal, on angle. Tries check side right footer from a yard out . Hits post. Absolutely unmissable with a left footer.

Jeff Chapman - wealthy past player
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thought I'd reload this old thread in view of a recent post suggesting Jeff as a possible nominee for president. -
He didn't mention that in his speech on Saturday........which he surely would have, were it a fact. Unless he just assumed that we knew, him being a FH.I wonder if he's any relation to 60's player , Maurie Bartlett. There is a slight resemblance . I guess he would have mentioned that, too, if it was a fact. He didn't.
