Mahoney basically said that, if Garlett doesn't get through training on Friday, then there is a chance Petracca is called up as his replacement. Therefore if Garlett plays, Petracca doesn't. -
True, although Andy shied away from the tough questions about Arsenal and never asked Goodwin about his 'guns'. Poor form Andy!

Couldn't care less if people have never rated his discussions over the last few years. He has kept it simple, general and boring... and thus he has kept the heat off the players and the club, something a new coach wouldn't have been able to do. That gets a big tick in my book.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 5, 2016
Wiseblood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Reckon we will see Vince, Garlett, ANB and possibly one other, such as Grimes, named on an extended bench tonight, with Vince and Garlett being the only inclusions come Friday arvo. Still not sure as to who misses though. -
The Game Plan - It seems to be working
Wiseblood replied to Its Time for Another's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you'll find there are plenty who believe he's done an outstanding job, Chris. I'm in the other camp though (in terms of comparisons between the Dogs and us and the implementation of game styles). The Dogs built from within and when Beveridge took over he reaped the rewards of what Macca had put in place and he was able to put a game style and development program in place that clicked with this side. If we were to compare lists at the end of 2014 I think most of us would realise that the Dogs had far more talent on their list than we did. Macca put the foundation in place, Beveridge then picked up the ball and ran with it. When Roos took over we didn't even have a ball for him to pick up and bounce. We came from much, much further back. -
AFL 360 asks if Melbourne can make the 8?
Wiseblood replied to Ron Burgundy's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's a silly question to be honest. We've been good to great in 3 of our 4 games so far, but to be in this sort of discussion we need to be around the mark in 3 months time. Do that and people like Whateley won't be laughing anymore. The competition will be filling their jocks instead. -
It's simple. Kennedy is a competitor. Howe isn't. That should tell us all we need to know.
-
The new Lyon/Schwarz? Nah, more like the new Hetfield/Hammett of the 80's.

Superbly summed up Ralph.

I've been his biggest critic in the past, but I'm happy to admit that he has been terrific so far this season. Let's hope it continues! I think, in the cold light of day, we all agree that Vince and Garlett (if fit) are automatic inclusions. It's just a matter of who they unlucky two are who miss. I think AVB gets another week off too to rest that troublesome ankle. No need to rush him at the moment.

Without wanting to hijack Joeboy's thread, you seemingly have a vendetta against the GWS boys in our team Clint. Yes, they have their moments and yes, there is plenty for them to work on. But outside of that they bring all of the traits we want in footballers who pull on our jumper and you need to get behind them. Tyson, Bugg and Frost were all positive contributors to our win today and I think it's disappointing that you're in every thread taking shots at them. Poor form mate, and as I've said earlier, you're better than that.

Bugg had 29 touches and 9 tackles today. Zero chance of being dropped. Same goes for Tyson and Lumumba. You guys are crazy.

With the senior side winning well AND Casey winning in fine fashion, it leaves us with a selection conundrum. Vince is an automatic inclusion, while we have to wait and see if Garlett is fit. Does Petracca get a run? Bit harsh to, potentially, make 3 changes to a winning side. Oliver was quiet and, while he acquitted himself well, Hunt might miss out as well. It's going to be an interesting week at the selection table.

Plenty to like about today. Loved the 4 goals from Watts, and that was the standout. He kicked 3 crucial goals when the game was up for grabs which was brilliant.

You're talking rubbish Clint. That's not like you. Both, and in particular Bugg, gave us plenty today. All of them contributed well. Take the blinkers off.

DEMONS!!! DEMONS DEMONS DEMONS!!!! Take that McChins!

To go with HH above me, Trengove was named in the best on the Casey twitter feed which is great to see. 34 touches and a goal - is Petracca ready?? Also great to see Weideman back up his 4 goals with another 3 this week, and it sounds like Hulett had more of an impact this week as well. Great result all round.

Another to the Pies. Slow start for the Scorps.
-
Pies 9 - Scorps 0, 5 mins in.

Yep, it's Varcoe's first game of the season. So hopefully he is a little rusty and underdone.
-
Not feeling all that confident today, although that's more out of the fact that I think the Pies are much better than how they are playing at present. Their side looks pretty good on paper, but they have crumbled under pressure. They'll be fired up and we need to weather that early storm. Unlike others I don't mind that Hunt and Wagner were selected. I know they are inexperienced but they both played good footy at VFL level and have earned their chance. I'll back them in to make a contribution. As others have said, if we turn up to play then we win. Our game style at the moment has us capable of kicking a good score and if Max gets on top and gives our boys first use then it will go a long way to us winning the game.
