MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 4
Wiseblood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Pies have a decent side on paper that is horribly out of form. This puts the ball firmly in our court - I think that if we are switched on and playing football like we did against North then we can keep the Pies at bay, even if they come out and have a red hot crack. As always the game will be won in the midfield - if Max gives us first use and we use it well going forward then we'll win, it's as simple as that. If we allow them too much easy ball through the middle and on the rebound then guys like Cloke and Fasolo will have a field day. Very winnable game for us. -
He's injured. You're on fire mate!

Haven't had a chance to check the sides? VDB isn't playing.

Decided to change the pickets in the fence late in the week, eh? -

I noticed Petracca and Weideman weren't selected though... -

In: Brayshaw, Pedersen, Neal-Bullen, Hunt and Garlett Out: Vandenberg (ankle), Vince (suspension) -
This sort of comment deserves a perma-ban.
-
Who plays as the back up ruck then?
-
It would happen on every club site Jeff. It's no different to yelling at them over the fence. If they let this stuff get to them then they may not be cut out for AFL football.
-
Those were horrible decisions. The first one was clearly more than 15m but he called it before it even got there. Even the commentators thought it was a rubbish decision.
-
Pretty good joeboy - the only two I disagree with are Tyson and Harmes. I thought they were a little better than you gave them credit for, particularly Tyson. Had it 20 times, 11 contested, 5 clearances and a great goal.
-
I'd drop Vandenberg before Stretch. Brought nothing to the table today.
-
They rotated on them. Dunn and McDonald spent most of the time on them, while I believe Lumumba spent some time on Brown as well. I'm not totally sure on that though, others at the game might be able to give more insight. Stretch was handy, Wagner was just okay. Both should keep their spots for next week.

Forward and pinch hitting in the ruck.
-
I still think we brought him back in to the seniors too soon. I think he needed a few weeks at Casey to get rid of the cobwebs after his injury but he wasn't given the chance. Plus it seemed as though he was going to spend plenty of time in the midfield, yet he has been stuck up forward for the majority of it.
-
I think OMac will be considered as it sounds like he was very good on the weekend for Casey, plus they obviously rate him as he got the gig ahead of Dunn to kick off the season. Frost has been poor all year, but so has Pedo. What else can we try? Do we just persist with Frost in that role and hope he comes good? Pies have Cloke and Moore up forward with Howe and Fasolo playing tall as well. I wonder if TMac gets a chance to redeem himself on Cloke next week...
-
This one will be close to it. AVB and Bugg have been average the last few weeks, and Garlett would be an automatic inclusion, while Brayshaw seems to have responded well to being dropped.
-
Let's not ignore the elephant in the room either: It's no co-incidence that when Garland gets dropped we cough up our biggest score of the year...
-
Yeah I stand corrected actually, he was better than I gave him credit for. 10 tackles is fantastic, didn't realise he had that many.

I thought Wagner was okay, laid a great tackle on Thomas in the third but outside of that he didn't do a huge amount. Frost was pretty poor, no impact. Stretch I thought was good. Missed a few targets but kept his spot for next week IMO. Harmes was okay, kicked a goal in the last and put some pressure on. Salem played off half back and was terrific.
-
Yep, tagged all day by Jacobs. They tried him off the half back flank at various times to try and get him into the game without too much success.
-
Did they? Got some stats to back that up? We obviously used ours perfectly, and may have even burnt a few in the second quarter to get back in the game. The fact we had a few left in the final moments suggests we used them correctly.
-
We should have won this game, no doubt about that. While we let them get away from us in the last part of the third I thought we would still be able to run over the top of them. But a few mistakes and their experience held us at bay. Had there been another minute in the game I reckon we could have snatched it, but it's not to be. Plenty of positives - Hogan responded well, Oliver is a gun, Max took it right up to Goldstein (who got plenty of help from the umpires), Kent kicking 4 in the second half, our midfield stood up etc. etc. etc. Lots to like, BUT, we need to do it again next week against the Pies who are prime for the taking.

In the last few minutes we had 3 rotations left, North had none. No idea what you're on about praha. Glad the boys impressed you with their turn around in effort, intensity and commitment to the contest....
