WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN
Forest Demon replied to Hannibal's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mitch Clark says hello, and probably chuckles under his breath at the stupidity of that comment. If we parted with the equivalent of what the Doggies are rumoured to be parting with to secure Dawes, I (and many) would be questioning the club. Will have to wait and see what is on the table for Pedersen. I am more than happy for the club to declare interest in these types of players, and even more happy to walk away if the price is too much. -
Why are we getting linked with all these ridiculous trades. Again, I would be shocked if we had any intention of offering up pick 20 for Ray, and would actually be shocked if St Kilda even had the nerve to ask for it. I am all for negotiating and working towards a compromise, but pick 20 is so far over it isn't funny.

Latest murmurings of a crazy time

No he want. He may not get a lot of love from us on here, but he plays a role and is loved by Neeld and Bailey before him. -

Good work Nudge. Even if none of these happen, I must admit I love this stuff. -
Absolutely miffed that a guy can be picked at 12 and 2 years later have a relatively injury free year and still be plodding around in the Casey Reserves. Someone has severely stuffed up here. Lucas obviously isn't cut out for AFL football, which is fine, but I find it amazing that a high pick can be used on someone so far off the mark. Pretty sure Barry Prendergast won't be putting this one on his resume if he is given the arse by Malthouse and is on the lookout for a new job.

A new name for our star duo to be!!!!!!
Forest Demon replied to burfy174's topic in Melbourne Demons
Call me pessimistic, but I am no longer convinced Jack Watts will be any more than a decent league footballer. And I will wait and see with Viney. Very happy to have selected him, especially in the second round, but there is a long way to go from being a good young footballer to a star. Let's just let him develop and not put too much pressure on him. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JESSE HOGAN
Forest Demon replied to Little Richard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seems, ridiculous. Gold Coast gave away pick 2 to get the first pick in that draft and they got a sweetener of a compo pick didn't they? While we would be giving pick 3 for the second selection in the draft and having to slide down from 13 to 20. Doesn't quite add up for me. -
Please let this be true. This would mean as much to me as attracting players from others club.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Fair play. Will be interesting to see if anything happens via trades with GC over the next couple of weeks. If it was simply a case of doubt cast over whether we would take him or not, then you have to take your hats off to the club for handling it so well. Wasn't 100% sure where those comments by Jack a couple of days back fitted in with the plan, but hey, who gives a [censored] now. A huge win, unless there is some sort of ridiculous trade to GC in the next 2 weeks. -

Ha, could not get 2 more different styled players. -
The 10.15am Thank God It's Over Thread
Forest Demon replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am pretty confident they won't bid on him. Basically, if they think he is the second best player in the draft then they bid, if not, it is a huge risk where the only positive is the almost insignificant fact that they will have 1 more player to look at for the second rounder. The emergence of Grundy and Toumpas have made it pretty clear that most recruiters wouldn't have Jack in the top 3 or 5. -
Unlike many on here, I would actually welcome Farren Ray. Will cost us next to nothing, assuming we use no more than a third rounder. No world beater but partly fills a glaring weakness we have in run and spread.

But did the MFC actually say that, or did the journalist say that. I am pretty sure it was the latter. -
Wellingham/Dawes super trade (scuppered)
Forest Demon replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would seriously doubt the club if this trade went through, but in saying that I am almost certain it is rubbish. I know we have burnt ourselves in the past wasting high picks, but that is no reason to go start throwing them out the window for one decent B grade mid and an average key forward. -
This is getting out of hand. Knee jerk changes like this are ridiculous. Soon the coaches will implement something else, and the AFL will decide they want more rotations and introduce a bench of every listed player at the club. They have made the game incredibly frustrating to watch over the last few years with the holding the ball interpretations changing so much and all the soft frees in the ruck where nobody knows which way they are going. Where I used to watch a few games a week I now find myself watching Melbourne games (although that is frustrating for entirely different reasons) are barely any others. And judging by crowd sizes and just the general vibe I get from others, I am not alone.

I wasn't questioning anything Todd had said, just what Jack has just said, under the assumption Todd and the club would have informed him how to handle media questioning. I think that what the club has been saying so far has been consistent with trying to get him to the second round, but these quotes by Jack himself baffle me a little, as they do nothing but tempt Gold Coast to pick him by saying he will be 100% committed to them etc. But as you pointed out in your earlier post, perhaps they have distanced themselves from Jack entirely to make it seem we are unsure of taking him. -

Very odd give the supposed mind games we all assumed the club was playing. You would think they would inform Jack, and Todd for that matter, how they want it handled, because this seems to fly in the face of what we thought was going on. -
Aussie - would we take him back - it's possible
Forest Demon replied to nicksaidsoyouknowitstrue's topic in Melbourne Demons
I loved Aussie as much as the next bloke, but all I hear is about his lack of work ethic...so no. -
At the end of the day, we as a club and a group of supporters need to be strong enough to not sook when we cop whacks in the media. If it is dodgey info such as the Grant Thomas/Jason Misfud saga, then by all means kick up a stink, but what Sheahan has said here is fair enough. In fact, ask most Demons fans what there lowlight of the season was and you would get the same response.
-
If this is how this off season pans out, I will soil myself. That scenario represents overs for Caddy and ridiculous overs for Dawes.

Watched Cale closely this year and he was clearly making an effort to up his contested football, but it was to no avail. He is almost irreversibly soft, and as much as he might try to get involved and get under a few packs, which he did try to do, it will take a better club than the MFC to turn him around. This isn't really a knock on Cale the person, as most of us mere mortals aren't cut out for it, but it is a knock on Cale the AFL footballer, and unless you are sublimely skilled and lightning quick, you can't survive at this level with his 'softness'. Put out the press release that he is seeking a new home to make it look like we are still keen on him, and then cut the rope and take what we can get. Sorry if that seems harsh, but that is the way I see his career.
-
I would be disgusted if the club just put this in the 'no chance' basket. We have this war chest that they keep crapping on about and it will only get bigger after more front loaded contracts after missing out on everyone decent this year, so why wouldn't we put a huge offer to him. Of course it is unlikely, but is it any more unlikely than Gary Ablett leaving Geelong and missing a flag to go GC for a [censored] load of money. Not sure why everyone feels the need to shoot down the OP, as even though it is highly unlikely, you could almost guarantee there will be 17 clubs sitting around the round table figuring out if they can get him to their club. Put an offer to him, 99.9% chance it gets turned down and nothing is lost other than the ink and piece of paper that was used to print it, 0.1% chance he decides to grab the cash and we seal the biggest coup possible.

Like most so-so players, I would take him atm, but wouldn't give up much to get him. -
This year has seen footy journalism drop to new lows. Consistently left scratching my head at some of the drivel they are coming up with. Can get more reasoned and informed views from regular Joe Blows on forums and blogs than these idiots who get paid to do it.
