And hopefully Blease realises that even though he made a mistake or two when he came on, at least he was taking it on and trying to force the issue a bit.

This thread is a bit unfair. I think after the past few years we have earned every right to question the club's drafting decisions, especially early first rounders, but let's give the kid the rest of this year before saying things like this. We knew full well going into today that Wines was more 'ready made' than Toumpas, so it was to be expected that he looked more comfortable at the level, especially when he is on the side doing things that easily in the middle, while Toumpas was surrounded by garbage. I think Wines will be a very good player obviously, but let's at least give Toumpas a chance before these sort of threads.

Probably the one part of our game that frustrates me the most is the kick ins (both our own and defending kick ins). Probably because it encapsulates why we are so shite at the moment with our lack of willingness to work into space or close down the opposition's run. Numerous times today Port eased their way out of our 50, even frequently making skill errors and still having enough time and far more numbers around the ball to make amends for it, while we continue to bomb long to Jamar so predictably it has become nothing short of embarrassing.

photo of the week - Cam Pedersen Specky

For some reason I thought you were being a smart arse and was expecting to see a photo of him ducking in that embarrassing attempt in the middle of the ground -
I heard that exact sentence wheeled out so many times before, just replace the name 'Dean Bailey' with 'Neale Daniher', and then replace 'Mark Neeld' with ' Dean Bailey'.

The board shouldn't cop the heat for a bad performance in isolation, but they definitely should for 7 years of bad performances. But also the players deserve it, the coach deserves it, the interchange steward deserves it, the bloke who fills up the water bottles deserves it.
-
If all other things remained the same at the club, in terms of administration, board etc, there is not a single name thrown up in this thread that could improve us anywhere near enough. Apart from the fact that not a single name in this thread would even contemplate coaching us due to the aforementioned issues and lack of respect in the footballing world. That is not saying Neeld should stay, just saying I don't think that it would help.
-
I would swap him for a lock of NikNat's dreadlocks. He is as soft is the day is long. As simple as that. Will have his good days when he is allowed to play his way, but that isn't anywhere near enough.
-
You honestly think he is the only problem. I am not defending him at all, far from it. I just think we also have a lot bigger problems at play than a bad coach.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 1
Forest Demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Felt sorry for Blease. If I were coach (and probably a good thing I'm not), I would have left him on the bench, and said 'Don't worry Sam, this isn't your doing' and left the rest of those duds out there to earn at least a portion of their pay. -
Neeld has had a year with the team, he has recruited a massive number of players in the last off season. This is his list. And while they may not have part of the game plan down, or may even lack some basic skill, if they can't break a sweat in round 1 of a new season, that is a big indictment on the coach also.
-
I would not have described myself as a Neeld apologist or even supporter, but just thought he needed a bit of time to at least show what he can do. But as I stated in another thread, I don't think the coach is our main problem. He may well be one of the problems, but it starts a lot higher than him.
-
Last year I had the feeling the supporter base was maybe 75-25 in Neeld's favour. But after just four more quarters of football, I think it would be 25-75, or probably even worse. Up there as the worst footballing day this club has had in my time supporting.
-
Does anyone really think it matters who the coach is. Not defending Neeld, but the issues at this club are far greater than just the coach. We could have Leigh Mathews, Paul Roos, Sir Alex Ferguson, or whoever, we would still be [censored].
-
I truly hope the club understands how fed up the supporters are. And not in the way a supporter might be fed up because their side threw away a 5 goal lead on one occasion, or because their car membership sticker faded after a couple of months, but fed up in a way that can have serious ramifications for the club's future.

The only positive. Poor bloke.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 1
Forest Demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Anyone who has a had a dip can have a vote. Viney, Grimes, that is all. -
It isn't just not fun, it is plain unbearable. I usually flame any poster who wheels out the old 'I am not renewing my membership' or 'I am not coming next week', but not anymore. We have been a very forgiving bunch over the last few years and the club has taken us for a ride. It is time for them to earn our support a bit. I just can't get over the lack of effort. It is the one non-negotiable part of the game. Unforgivable.
-
Most pea hearted, [censored] weak effort I have seen in some time. You can talk about improvement over summer, and increased fitness but if players aren't going to even do us the honour of having a go, then it doesn't mean anything. And I am not excusing Neeld of this, this is his list, and while I don't expect free flowing beautiful football, they should at least be having a dip. I can't believe what I am watching. I have seen 120 point flogging a where we have had more of a go than this.
-
I reckon if he had a decent set of hands on him, he could dead set mark some of his own kicks he puts them up that high. If he ever puts on some beef and flattens his kicks out he will be a good player.
-
Oh, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Doggies get the win today. They were ravenous and would just not stop hitting the contests twice as hard as Brisbane, and gave them an absolute lesson. Loved seeing the look on Vossy's face as they continued to capitulate.
-
Moloney will be ok at Brisbane in terms of his output. But I noticed him continually yelling at teammates when they were against it, which seems pretty typical of him. Martin on the other hand...I can't believe he is playing as a forward. He is potentially an average ruckman, and I actually think he could be an ok big defender, with his size and athleticism. But he would have to be one of the worst key forwards going around in the competition. He lacks footy smarts, he has a shocking pair of hands, and he couldn't kick a set shot to save himself. I expect a shift around the ground or a stint back in the state league coming his way within a month.
-
Unless I am missing a joke, which is a big possibility, I would suggest having no support for either side is almost the exact definition of the word.
-
As the earlier poster suggested, unless something has changed (or a concession made on Good Friday), our team will be in today. In previous years, it has always been teams announced for Friday and Saturday games on the Thursday night, and squads for the Sunday games. And then teams finalised for the Sunday games on the Friday evening.

Last nights game couldn't have gone much better from a neutral's point of view. Malthouse has a loss first up and Richmond still look flakey after nearly capitulating in the last quarter. Must admit I was hoping for the draw. If Yarran had of kicked the first of his two behinds, it may well have been on.
