Finally had a weekend off and got to a game. Had to see how bad we are. One of the first things that struck me is we have not one on field leader presence. Even when Neiter was on the ground. Frawley played a good game today i thought. He took the game on instead of taking that pathetic sideway look for a teamate near the boundary.

The simple fact of the matter is our top 4/5 marquee players are ie. Bruce, McLean, White, Neitz, Green. Compare this to a Brisbane, Brown, Black, Power, Lappin, or a Geelong Ling, Bartel, Ablett, Chapman, or Port, Cornes x 2,Burgoyne x 2, St.Kilda, Ball, Reiwoldt, Hayes, Dalsanto, Montagna. Stack our best against other teams best, and it becomes instantly clear where our problem lies now and for the next few seasons. I believe Bruce at full fitness is our best, but he is nowhere near to the other players i mentioned. I think DB knows where we are at, and last years clean out and the one I think will happen at the end of this season will prove that. Unfortuneately it seems we have put all our eggs in the one basket with Bruce, Green, Miller etc and come up short.

For those old enough, Joe Rugolo was the worst player i've seen wearing a Dees jumper, closely followed by Bryan Stynes!

I wouldnt take him back. I think we are better to develop a ruckman with our kids.I'm in the camp of not trying to hang on to disgruntled players. Talk to them, and if you can't get them on side ,then try to get something for them.

And what did you suppose we do if someone wants to leave? Just let them go on the PSD and not get anything for them.

How much more wrong could you be? 1. Stynes retired! 2. We may not have drafted Rosa anyway, and the jury is still out on PJ. 3. Jolly wanted out. We did get Bell out of the deal though. 4. Simmons actually went to the Dockers, and besides was never going to be our No. 1 ruck. The only one I agree with you on is Craig Ellis.We have been spoiled in the ruck department in the last 20 years though, and that is probably why we are going to suffer in the not to distant future. Weve only had 3 No.1 ruckmen in nearly 20 years, O'Dwyer, Stynes and White.

After the initial dissappointment, i'm not that sad Judd didn't come to us. I feel we probably would have had to give up a crucial pick(4), as well as a good kid. We can't afford to give away anything especially a promising kid like eg. Petterd, Frawley, Jones etc, They will be our Judds. And i'm sure it will give us more satisfaction to have a player developed by the Dees. Our kids are as good as any in the AFL, if not better. Let them lead the way out of the wilderness.
