You might, but can the channel 7 cameras?
-
They have delusions that they will [censored] off the TV stations and broadcast the comp themselves. Good luck with that as long as they have Telstra running things for them.
-
They've covered up so many things, it's such a habit that they've accidentally covered up coverage of round 1
-
Or ........ they could declare it a non-issue, sweep the whole thing under the carpet, and threaten any club who looks like kicking up a fuss. Decisions, decisions ...
-
Absolutely. Even if he hadn't, he will yet. A a first year coach (albeit with a long apprenticeship) of course he will take some false steps. Almost by definition! Look at Steve Smith as OZ cricket captain. Has made some howlers. But you can see him learning as he goes. He's improving all the time. (But pls don't refer to the 3rd Test in Injah.) Goodwin hasn't got an A on his report card yet. Let's see how his decisions on Watts, Spencer, Jetta, etc, etc, turn out before we condemn him to death, or deify him. But no alarm bells going off yet, nor should there be.

BANG! I have long thought that if that was the most significant thing he did in his career, then that would be all he was remembered for. But he went on to do a number of more significant things. Brownlow. Games record. Etc. Shows the great character of the man. I hope his kids remember him not so much as a bloke who was an AFL great, but as a man of immense character.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Mazer Rackham replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Bringing the game into disrepute ... Jesus, don't try that one on. Dean Bailey banned from coaching. Chris Connolly ... banned from and and all admin roles. Very protective of the good name of their comp, the AFL are. But somehow ... Trevor Nisbett ... still CEO of WCE. AFL. Don't try them on when it comes to drugs. They're tough as. -
Five years! Feels like 5 months. I remember listening to the service in the car. I hope his family are getting on with their lives. One of the enjoyable aspects of watching those Jakovoch videos was seeing Jim in action. The guy could play.

It's an editorial decision. Any criticism of Hird would be bad for his mental health. (Robbo's, I mean.) -
In one of those videos he was listed as 187cm and 99kg. In another he was 183cm and 88kg. The guy either became a jockey or went to the NBA.

They are! You will now be able to take Samson to his swimming lessons, Aquitaine to her jazz ballet, Taniisha to choir practice, Prosecco to cultural awareness face painting, and still have time to rock up to the footy! I think you'll find there are another 20 or 30 million reasons for doing it, that Gil won't talk about. Possibly because he fears a backlash. Why would there be a backlash, Gil? What is there to hide? Or maybe he's already forgotten those extra reasons!

Every poll that's been done shows a majority against it. Players more than the public. Can't admit that though. The corporate paymasters might get upset.
-
It's gone from "won't happen" to "maybe one day" to "probably eventually" to "broad acceptance" (ie, this year) in a very short time, all without any shift in public opinion (which is mostly against it). The main argument put forward is that the half time entertainment will be more entertaining! (Low bar to jump) What could have changed? Channel 7's $$$$ perhaps?

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS

Don't really want to debate the whole thing all over again. Agree others have culpability. But one bloke set the thing in motion. -
THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS

Of course he does. When the whole thing blew up, his first thought was to cover it up. He was prepared to let large scale drug cheating go unpunished, to protect the income stream. But. He tried to warn them off it, months before. And as he said, he didn't inject anyone. Who started the whole mess, who didn't heed the warnings, who recklessly brought this disrepute on the game, still affecting it years later, who has failed to take responsibility? The heat is not disproportionate. No, Oz head of News Ltd (EFC supporter and Hird tragic), pulling some strings. -
I like Swedish stewardesses in handcuffs myself, but everyone's got their kink. ("Your "Brownlow". Never heard it called that before.)
-
Yeah, BBP. Can you resign from D'land to give us a fighting chance?

I suppose the money would soothe the pain a little ... I wouldn't mind getting some of that to push [censored] uphill every day ... but point remains ... even though I don't think much of him, it's a hard gig and I don't envy him getting piled on every day for the sin of not having played AFL footy.
-
I don't think much of Hamish but I feel for the guy. It's Hollywood Boulevard at SEN now. "You're not One Of Us, so we're going to subtly (ie, not subtly) point that out to you, again and again and again."
-
Let's face it, SEN is the AFL channel. With a bit of other sport tossed in. Over summer it was good with Chuck Berry talking lots of cricket, there was tennis, A league, etc. A bit of variety. But the minute Gazza & Tim took over the brekky show it became incredibly self indulgent. It was February, and all they talked about was AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, here's a cricket score, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, AFL footy, ... you get the idea. It still is self indulgent. I will say this for Hamish: he's a bit of a cipher but at least keeps the others on some sort of coherent track, otherwise the brekky show would be indistinguishable from a bunch of guys at the pub crapping on and on. Which might be extremely entertaining for said guys (and is, if you're one of those guys), but for anyone else listening in, it's mostly drivel. Ox & Frank used to have segments like "who's on the struggle bus" ... they were aware they were trying to entertain ... but these guys ... sorry Gaz ... maybe you're not ready for public life yet. Tim: you have a clever wit and I reckon you'd be great company at a BBQ, but have you really been in the media for some 20 odd years? You still come over like it been 20 days. Hamish: not a fan but at least you know what you're trying to do. But in the studio you're "The Guy Who Hasn't Played AFL", ie you're a second class citizen. The show is a daily 3-hour version of "Jesaulenko You Beauty" (*) and should be rebranded "How About That Day Out At Waverley When You Had To Play On Billy Duckworth? You Hardly Got a Touch. Yes, That's Right. I Remember A Great Sledge I Got In At Gary Foulds Though." Self Indulgent. No variety. Not entertaining. Rating drop = no surprise. * = weekly one-hour nostalgia show. Not bad in its own right.

Hear, hear. To read the comments here, you'd think they are an invincible machine who have won the last 8 flags. Yes, our record against them is poor. But they lost 10 times last year including to Port & Suns, broke North's long losing streak and finished with percentage of 95.

I was inspired by yours, D. Plus I cribbed from a mate of mine.

This is the end, beautiful friend This is the end, my once captain, the end Of our elaborate plans, the end Of everything that stands, the end No safety or surprise, the end I'll never look at your "9", again Can you picture what will be, way out at Casey Desperately in need, of high disposal tally On the MCG ... The coach awoke before dawn, he got his clipboard out He took a New Balance training jacket from the ancient cupboard And he walked on down the hall And he came to a door, and he looked inside Jack? yes coach? I want to drop you Trenners ... I want to ... delist you ... This is the end, my once captain, the end It hurts to set you free But you'll never get on the 'G This is the end

Only way I can see Gawn+Spencil working is for Max to play 20 mins in ruck, 10 mins forward. And Spencil 20 mins bench, 10 mins ruck. So 4 interchange per match for Spencil, all the rest for mids. Effectively 3 interchange vs 4 for other teams. Question then is Spencil so much more effective in his 10 mins per quarter than eg Pedo would be, to make it worth it. At least Pedo can be on the ground contesting when he's not in the ruck.
