Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
I had him top 10 in my December 2020 draft:- 1. Jason Horne (Sth Adelaide, SA) 2. Nick Daicos (Oakleigh Chargers - Collingwood Father/Son) 3. Josh Rachele (Murray Bushrangers) 4. Josh Sinn (Sandringham Dragons) 5. Ben Hobbs (GWV Rebels) 6. Tyler Sonsie (Eastern Ranges) 7. Lachlan Brooks (Sandringham Dragons) 8. Jacob Van Rooyen (Claremont, WA) 9. Joshua Browne (East Fremantle, WA) 10. Campbell Chessar (Sandringham Dragons) Here is what some other experts had to say:- Cal Twomey van Rooyen booted 24 goals in the final six games of the colts season as a key forward but it is in defence where many clubs see the swingman's future. The Claremont product is a tireless worker and competitor, giving him an advantage as a key-position player at either end. The Lions could look to beef up their key-position stocks in van Rooyen. Owen Leonard The Claremont product holds a demonstrated ability to play at either end of the ground. He booted 30 goals in just eight games at colts level, proving how dangerous he is when deployed in attack, but many believe he plays his best football in the backline. His proficiency at either end of the ground â combined with his height of 194cm and his ready-made weight â means van Rooyen boasts a scarce skillset, particularly when compared to others in this draft pool. Chris Doerre Profile: Despite spending much of the year up forward -- providing a commanding marking target with his leap and aerial strength -- Van Rooyen's play when utilised in defence has been even better. Van Rooyen in defence takes intercept marks at will and with his one-on-one capabilities has proven difficult to beat.

Yeah nah. When I was a kid my mother used to complain that our local butcher used to put his thumb on the scales when he weighed her meat order. Mac needs to check this next time he weighs himself.

2021 AFL Draft - Tall forwards/rucks
If you want a tall then next yearâs the year for it. Thereâs a 199cm tall from SA called Harry Lemmy who will be all the rage next year as a key position forward prospect.

CHANGES 2021 by The Oracle
Funny that young Woewodin models his game on Steele Sidebottom but runs so fast over the initial 20 metres. Sidey isnât very fast himself but makes up for it with quick thinking.

eth-dog's 2021 Phantom
Adelaide has pick 4 - unlikely. Carlton - no top 20 picks and drafted 210-centimetre ruckman Alex Mirkov from Old Ivanhoe in the VAFA in this yearâs mid season draft. Gold Coast Suns - have only one draft pick at 3 - unlikely and also took 205cm Ned Moyle of the Oakleigh Chargers in this yearâs mid-season draft. StKilda - have Pick 9 but they did take a developing ruckman in this yearâs mid-season draft, 204cm Max Heath. Western Bulldogs - no top 20 picks but will be taking 204cm Sam Darcy as a father/son. More a forward but could be developed as a ruckman. GWS at 13 which will become 15 after father/sons is probably the only real suitor and if not them, Melbourne might not be called upon to match until the mid 20s.

eth-dog's 2021 Phantom
Iâm not ruling Brisbane out of the equation but the Lions drafted 204cm Kalin Lane in this yearâs mid-season rookie draft. They also drafted 206cm Henry Smith in last yearâs National Draft. With list sizes numbering just above 40, can you afford to have more than two developing ruck prospects?
-
eth-dog's 2021 Phantom
Quite right but you also missed that the Tigers have two other young developing ruckmen on their list. Samson Ryan is 206cm, 96kg from Queensland and he played one game for them during the year. Heâs the bloke Hardwick suggested should be loaned out to the Suns for the rest of the year to cover their injuries. They also have a real giant in Category B rookie, Mate Colina (213cm) who is the cousin of Noah Balta and a close family friend of Soldo and ruck coach Ivan Maric. How many development ruckmen do you reckon one club needs?

The comeback of draft smokies?

2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Thereâs something weird about the article. Numerous draft prospects are mentioned in it but thereâs one name conspicuously missing. Mac Andrew. Why would that be?

Bobby Hill
Strange that someone should have an opinion that heâs inconsistent? Heâs been a low possession winner throughout his career. Kicks the odd goal in a game and then is unsighted. Got 6 touches v Geelong when given his chance in the semi final. The game he played before that (round 17) he had 7 touches. With a record like that, he certainly has a lot of development left in his game but it wonât necessarily be fulfilled so I wouldnât be worried too much if we missed out on it.

2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Itâs worth looking at how NGAâs have gone in the Draft recently. Jamarra Ugle-Haganâs case is pretty well-documented. The Bulldogs matched Adelaideâs bid at #1 last year. But Collingwoodâs 2020 NGA Reef McInnes didnât attract as much publicity and wasnât considered as highly in some quarters last year but he was definitely considered by many judges as a likely top 20 draft pick (the ban on matching at that range didnât exist at the time). Knightmare had him going at pick 11 in his final phantom draft (with Collingwood not matching) - Every club, every pick: ESPN's full AFL phantom draft The big-bodied inside midfielder who set the fastest 20m sprint time at the Draft Combine, was taken at #23 as a matching bid by the Pies.

Hillâs just another of these players who comes into the system promising so much and delivering so little. He has these spasmodic flashes of brilliance from time to time but lets you down so often. No thanks!
