  1. Liam Ryan will take mark of the year again sitting on Max Gawn’s head
  2. Typical [censored] west coast , putting in a shocker again in Victoria. No doubt if we play them over there at that snake pit on Monday week they’ll be world beaters.
  3. Excellent Smithers … I see us now avoiding not one, but two interstate away games ! The wheels are now beginning to turn
  4. Can’t see WA government accepting if we play a qld team tomorrow that’s been in the community prior to an outbreak. Makes most sense to keep teams in Victoria especially if AFL is stead strong on protecting the pre finals bye . Bad luck west coast
  5. So the last game I attended was the round 9 win over Carlton , with the exception of GWS home game I missed, the next time I could realistically go to the footy will now be finals if we manage to score a home final in Victoria. (Assuming it’s not relocated interstate) the timings of lockdowns and fixture changes have royally screwed us, but the cats get to play at home 3 games into finals (as usual) if we make top 4 from here it will be massive effort - this fixture just has a real cairns feel about it all If the players were truly upset at how last year ended , this is their opportunity to make a statement - but in fairness it’s [censored] the cards that we’ve been dealt though.
  6. I remember the game we went top , beating the hawks who were a rabble that year , they showed the ladder up on the scoreboard at the G, I couldn’t believe we were top so late into the season. Then we got smashed over at port and the wheels fell off. The only highlight after that was Matty Whelan’s bump on ? [censored] in the elimination final , a shocking capitulation by the club in an open year for the flag . I think we were more flat track bullies that year, whereas this year we’re not, but have major issues in maintaining intensity against lowly sides. It’s a good reminder though , we lost 5 straight and finished 5th.
  7. Apparently the last time Brown played Port he kicked 10 , back in late 2019 https://www.afl.com.au/news/130663/ben-bags-10-brown-leads-roos-slaughter-of-powerless-port
  8. Gone 3/6 now , can’t see this team having what it takes to win the flag , they’re brittle , that game was there for the taking
  9. The ghosts of Karmichael hunt coming back for the tigers
  10. Wow just took a quick look over on bomberblitz…. FMD these guys are still saltier than the Dead Sea !!!! seriously what a toxic vile bunch of sore losers … blaming the umps in an 11 point loss ( bar a very very small number of reasoned posters ) , I couldn’t imagine how they’d take a free kick loss after the siren. we were annoyed after getting shafted by some non calls in the last two minutes and then in the last 30 seconds against the crows but this is a whole next level quantum leap in whinging … conspiracy theories , threatening of umps and opposition supporters, and just a general lack of being graceful and acknowledging that maybe your team played very well but fell just short of a very good team on the day …
  11. mods should really consider changing the title of this thread to … What they’re crying about at windy hill
  12. It’s hardly surprising Dr with generations of bandwagon Essendon supports living off Sheedy’s musings during the 80s and 90s , martians and marshmallows , throat cuts and snippers … and these supporters now think they have been wronged and hard done by, sold out by the AFL with the injections saga , Hirds persecution, failed rebuilds and not winning a final in 17 years ! growing up and going to school around Essendon in the 90s highlighted to me their sheer arrogance and entitlement, however they were winning flags back then and expected success, post 2001 they have been abysmal relative to their history , now the bandwagoners are crying fowl , even though they seem to now be getting their [censored] together … so I guess we can’t be surprised by what we saw last night . my hatred of Essendon is right up there with west coast and Geelong - the one common denominator is self entitled whinging [censored] supporters … Booooooooo
  13. Favourite Win Comeback against Brisbane - was so very un-Melbourne like in that it was a clinical and measured comeback correcting deficiencies at half time & going 11 wins mid season on a Friday night was pretty special feeling post match. Said a lot about the maturity of the group. one game highlight Trac’s goal early in the last against Richmond - was very Dusty like !! Hoping he can do stuff like that in September other random highlight Kozzie’s 2Q goal against the Saints - looked great on TV loved the curl on the ball as he snapped it
  14. This is definitely the best team in my 30 years of supporting, totally agree with all the sentiments re 98 , 2000 and 2018. Someone mentioned this recently on another thread but in both 98 and 2000 we were on the end of some absolute hidings from mid table teams, we were extremely flakey and went on late season runs off momentum from flogging bottom teams and lots of back to back games at the G. Talent wise it was there , but team ethos and winning culture was not , probably not helped either by training facilities down at the junction oval. And the proof was always in the following year flops and disappointments in 1999, 2001 etc. 2021 is something I have never seen from a Melbourne outfit , they grind down opponents and work for each other , it’s totally the opposite of anything this club has ever shown even in good years with talented players . One thing that has stood out to me in particular lately with Clarry’s post match interviews , he’s said a few times now that he simply “hates losing”. I think that kind of mentality explains why the players weren’t going to cop being off at half time on Friday night against a quality opposition and just simply accept a loss and fix it on Monday or next game, they wanted to fix it then and there and win, and they went about it clinically. The other clear distinction between now and then, was that regardless of how deep we went into finals we were never even close to being the best team (or even the 2nd best) in the comp during the season, at the moment we clearly are the best and most consistent team in the comp . That doesn’t guarantee a flag but it’s along way from where we’ve ever been before it’s exciting and it’s also scary for us supporters , make no mistake this year is our best chance
  15. Not sure if you really want to finish top... when was the last time a team that won the minor premiership actually won the flag ? top4 with a home final sounds better
  16. I canned him in the game day thread for that deliberate out of bounds goal early in the second , but he definitely was very solid down back and providing rebound out of D50. Collectively take out those ordinary marking mistakes by our defenders and a couple of dubious early frees the saints barely had any genuine goals scoring opportunities
  17. Still top thanks to that late goal from the lions ?
  18. Its almost nostalgic now to think back a few years ago when even if we were terrible we could still always say “well at least we’re not Richmond !”
  19. Spot on Dr In my 30 years following the club , season 2000 was our best season in which we only won 12 H&A games to finish 3rd!!! Even then we had a typical mid season slump and then finally got on a roll . 1994, 98 , 2004 all the same without winning consistently - even a couple of near 100 point drubbings in those years 98 & 2000 ! In terms of supporters we certainly are the 40 year old virgins when it comes to success !
