  1. I find the whole spectacle made if this on the afl website a bit unsettling - “ tune in to find out if Buddy gets off for whacking another player in the head ?” Like it’s a reality tv show. even foxsports site the attached video with footage had 30 second pointsbet sporting add AFL industry seem to have gone past it’s moral compass on a lot of this - very much a $$$$$ industry.
  2. You forgot to mention also that Carlton then thumped Geelong in the grand final - consigning the cats to their 4th GF loss out of the previous 6 years 1995 was such a let down as a young demon - the Ox going down at Lavington was the start of my early MFCSS followed many the many disappointing injuries that plagued a talented team in the mid 90s
  3. Wasn’t there an urban legend that the Carlton players funded their end of season trip with those two losses that year ?
  4. If someone had told me 20 odd years ago that Essendon would now be miring in years of mediocrity without winning a final in 18+years … all the while the Melbourne Demons were the reigning premiers and sitting pretty top of the ladder I would have thought they were crazy and from another universe ! I still sometimes have to pinch myself about last September.
  5. Nah … not even NATO could turn a blind eye to that one . Has to get weeks.
  6. I have a feeling we’re due to drop a game to either port or GWS , coming off a couple of 6 day breaks and both opposition sides being really under the pump with their seasons now on the line , I think we may get caught out on an average night. But starting the season 4-1 would still be a fantastic result given injuries in the backline and our delayed preseason , as most have said we still have a few more gears to go up as the season progresses.
  7. Wow 13 it’s like you're practically a clone of me growing up in the west - although i didn’t attend that match at windy hill in 1990. yes the smug sheedy disciples were at their peak back then - but now they have the beginnings of an inferiority complex .
  8. The boys also sang along to a whole lot of songs including Take me home , country roads … but no one seems to mention that freed from desire , such a tacky song IMO , the dogs can have it , but if some of them need that as motivation then they have bigger issues
  9. And if he does handpass, do we then get smashed the following week in the 30c heat against a fresh and rested Carlton and does bang, bang, bang still eventuate in 2021 on the demon space/time continuum ? for all of that heartache and all of the stuff that then followed maybe in some weird messed up way it was all meant to pan out like it did
  10. Surprised the AFL haven’t tried using that proposed rd 24 week idea as a wildcard round for finals - not that I think it’s a good idea either . If you finish 9th or 10th you don’t deserve to be vying for the premiership.
  11. https://afl.app.link/JEbqMA0Ofob From tonight’s season launch What a quality leader we have at the MFC in Kate Roffey. So well spoken , it’s amazing how professional our club now collectively presents itself. Also the flag is now officially with us for next Wednesday night !
  12. So did Jack Viney make Todd Viney cry ? Jack’s taken it to the next level
  13. Crawling through that long tunnel of [censored] in shawshank was a very apt metaphor for my demon supporting life until last year … when mates asked for my immediate reaction after the grand final I just sent them this p.s I don’t think I was alone doing this in my lounge room when the final siren went
  14. Roos 13 Dees 6 - but that was 13 mins ago - can’t see any updates
  15. No link sent last night , and when I click on the video on the website this morning it says this event is now finished
  16. I haven’t received the email with the link yet
  17. I recall hearing last year the interesting stat about a premiership team never all playing in the same line up ever again … whilst not impossible for this group given no retirements , round 1 would have been the most likely time to do it
  18. Surely that’s supposed to read Chad Wingard is elite at PlayStation ?
  19. That’s right I remember hearing that Collingwood were also technically insolvent in the mid 80s too https://amp.theage.com.au/sport/afl/saving-football-new-documents-reveal-how-close-the-vfl-came-to-shutting-down-20160408-go1x0m.html
  20. A follow on to the other clip - more enjoyable as more demons 👍
  21. At least now we have 21 years over those [censored] who also haven’t won a final in 18 years … we can look them in the eye and laugh smugly . That would have been unheard of in the 90s
  22. Even before I knew there was actually a thing as the infamous Chris Sullivan line among the demon faithful , in my younger days when starting to really follow the mighty demons in the early to mid 1990s I have always held that 7 - 8 goal last quarter margin as my point of no return that no opposition could catch up even the most inconsistent or flakiest of Melbourne sides of yesteryear. Knowing the demons blew a 47 point margin from early in the last quarter against the bombers in 1992 as 10 year old had an indelible effect on my demon supporting psyche and confidence following my team for nearly 30 years. A mindset of fearing we would blow our lead rather than an air of confidence to expect to really put the foot on the throat of the opposition. Nibblers goal in the GF to put us 42 points up was enough for me, although Positive lingers snap a minute or so later really settled it officially at 48!!! I know I was not alone there, but most other club supporters (namely hawks or the tigers more recently) probably would have settled at clarries goal late in the third or Big Ben Browns opener early in the last, any neutral watching would have known the contest with our huge momentum shift was basically done at 3qtr time. But us Melbourne supporters were tortured souls of a different kind, over many many years, so thankfully the team kept piling on the goals in the last so we could finally relax! Even BT poked fun at us in the commentary. So now the Norm Smith curse is lifted , the drought is over, we have found our way to the promised land so going forward so do we need to now reset our view on at what point do we feel confident that we are home and hosed ? Is it now 5 goals or 6 goals ? It will be interesting this year post a premiership to see how our psyche as supporters changes, if at all, knowing we can trust our team and to the extent that we banish some of our negative mindset tendencies that we have built up over many years. Thoughts demonland?
