2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah I'm the same. Our midfield depth has taken a hit and right as we speak, we have no up and coming wave of midfield talent coming through considering Viney will be 30 next year, Brayshaw and Oliver's health concerns and then Petracca turning 28 next year. I wouldn't say it's an aging midfield, but we're certainly lacking fresh talent in that department. -
Compliment taken.

Jesus.. you're dead set the king of taking things out of context in this joint.
-
Yeah I'm not against this. Fresh start in a new environment could rejuvenate him. Trust me, ask yourself, who you would you have rather in our finals this year playing up forward? Tmac or Darling..? I know who'd i rather..

Trying to pick this apart.. So in other words you don't want to trade JVR....?

Thus is interesting..

Great insight Swooper. Think the doggies moving up ahead of us puts a damper on things. Intrigued to see how this all plays out.

I agree with you here. I think there's a bit to play out with this. There is enough smoke out there to suggest that Petty has strongly considered returning home. You don't need to be unhappy in wanting to go nor do you need to officially request a trade, Grundy never formally requested a trade from either Collingwood or Melbourne. Probably just simply wants to be closer to home which is a not an issue imo. The fact that it still had to take Simon Goodwin to actually sit down with him and convince him otherwise suggest he's has had serious considerations.

Lol his disposals numbers and the amount of goals kicked at VFL level is identical to Josh Schache's year in his 2022 VFL season. Having watched enough VFL of Brisbane this year and some of his previous AFL games it's no wonder Brisbane fans are happy to show pack his bags for him.

Something tells me this is still in play.

Pretty much this.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Update on our potential picks. A ball magnet who’s played at a consistently high level across multiple grades during his draft campaign, Sanders was interviewed by multiple clubs at last week’s combine, with the Bulldogs and Melbourne showing particular interest in him. The Demons are keen to move up the order, but if they hold their spot and Melbourne Grammar graduate Sanders is still on the table, he’d be hard to pass up, considering there’s a rival-club theory the Dees are looking for a ball-winner this off-season. The Dees might also look at drafting Curtin with their first pick should he still be available, while mid-sized Northern Knights forward Nate Caddy – the nephew of premiership Tiger Josh Caddy – could come into the mix too. Although sources believe the Demons would more likely look at Caddy with their second first-rounder. Melbourne, at this stage, looms as the first possible bidder for Gold Coast academy ruck Ethan Read – a freakish 200cm prospect who ran a ridiculous 2km time of 5:56. If the Dees don’t bid on him, don’t expect him to slide past Geelong. -
Yes. I've given both a decent write up on here. I'll quickly have a search through and find it.

But his knee isn't fine 'red'. Since 2019 Brown hasn't been able to complete a full season due to knee issues. That's damming in itself. His body is completely unreliable and when our forward line was at our most vulnerable during the finals he wasn't available because he'd just come out of rehab from his knee issues. That's the time we needed a fully fit Ben Brown. I like the guy, but right now, I'd much rather a fit mature age key forward on our list then Brown/McDonald.

Goody does it again 👏

It's no different to country footballers requesting trade back home to 'Melbourne' when realistically home is still a 3-4hr drive in the country from Melbourne city.

He's obviously having serious consideration of going home. There's enough smoke there. Do we cash in now with one of Adelaide's early picks or do we wait until free agency. There is also the consideration with his foot injury. From what I heard it was a pretty significant injury to the point where there is some ongoing concerns whether it'll hold up to the rigours of AFL level in years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually Petty does go back home to SA whether that's this period or free agency.

Is that actually legit? Can't find anything that confirms so?

They're from the same management group.
